Not just that, they will instantly demonise Tyler for who he is also. They don’t care that he was a victim of brainwashing and abuse. They don’t care about how sad or tragic his life beforehand was. To them everything is about Wenclair. And if you’re a male who’s a perceived love interest to either one of them, then you’re on par with the devil. If Tyler was to get a different love interest, I wouldn’t be sad, because I would want him to be happy.
I think it’s very interesting that, like the majority of outcast society, the majority of Wednesday’s viewership sees Hydes as only what they are vs who they are. How they view Tyler without empathy, without compassion, and how (I’m pretty sure) the viewers of the show will be gaining that empathy and compassion along with the characters.
I’m not sure if the writers did that on purpose, but it’s cool nonetheless.

Something most of us already knew but it’s so nice to hear Hunter say it again:
In the first scene between Wednesday and Tyler at the Weathervane, Tyler did not know Wednesday was important to Laurel’s plot.
So all that amazing, juicy, delicious banter and flirting (yes your honor they were flirting!) was 100% real.

Yeah I’ve never been apart of a fandom that was filled with so much toxicity as well. I think it hurts us more because this is the first time you and I are experiencing it.
As for Wenclair, like you, I don’t see a connection between them either, I wasn’t drawn to them like I was with Wednesday and Tyler. But the thing I strongly dislike about that ship is not the pairing itself, but the fans, not all of them as there are some level headed and kind Wenclair fans who I am friends with on here, X, and Reddit (and even they agree that there are truly unhinged fans who are “foaming at the mouth” bad), but it definitely feels like it’s the majority of them. They bully and treat us fans of the Wyler ship and Tyler as a character like we’re beneath them. Every time we post something pro-Tyler, or Wyler, a Wenclair fan will always find a way to make some snide remark or comment against us. The amount of times I’ve had to block people on all my socials cause of their demeaning anti posts or comments, I feel like I can’t enjoy the fandom in peace.
They even tried to make Tyler older than his actual age by saying that he was like 19 or 20 something and using that to label him a creep or groomer by taking interest in a 15-16 year old girl. And I’m like 🤦‍♂️ again he’s 16 too. Plus the show, and the “Book of Outcasts” have him clearly established as a student still.
I’ve said this plenty of times, if this was Enid who had Tyler’s story, they would be crying “abuse” and “grooming” from the rooftops! That’s another thing about them I can’t stand about most of them – HYPOCRISY!
Was just thinking that’s it’s actually crazy how so many people hate Tyler. I’m really guessing all the people who do are also under the age of 18 because taking a step back and realizing Tyler is like 16/17 in the show made me so upset.
My job is working with troubled youth and I’m in my early 20’s, to me the 16 yr olds I work with are BABIES.
If you’re an adult who is hating on Tyler’s character I think that’s insane. Empathy may be lost because the actors are older and everything is dramatized and unreal, but step back and just think about it. SIXTEEN AND SEVENTEEN is so small and I’m not even 25 yet.
16 being tied to a cave wall NAKED AND DRUGGED?!?!?! And we see as 17/18 in the trailer he’s chained to the wall in the psych ward? Thats so heartbreaking.

It’s truly pathetic that these “fans” can’t see it. They only see things through a narrow minded black and white perspective, but it’s basically a reflection of how young people, mainly Gen Z view society as a whole, and that has had major consequences in the political landscape today also.
Younger generations now look at society through the lens of “Oppressed and Oppressor”, “Abused and Abuser”, and “Victim and Victimiser”. Like I mentioned before, they only see things through a black and white scope and the concept of grey doesn’t even register to them. They apply that same viewpoint to Tyler and to them, he’s a killer, a liar, a traitor. To them, he’s worse than Satan, and they treat him worse than Laurel or Crackstone because they see him as a threat to their ship, to Wenclair. (We all know that pretty much a large majority of the hate posts, comments, and anti-Tyler content general comes from a majority of the Wenclair fanbase)
It’s why they refuse to acknowledge that he too has been victimised, that he was neglected and emotionally abused by his one remaining parent figure, that he too was taken advantage of by an adult who to him seemed like the only person who cared about him and wanted to help him when no one else would. Not his dad, no one! And yes, I know people will say that he was seeing Kinbott, but I don’t think that counts since although she meant well, she wasn’t a very effective therapist. Not to mention, Tyler was shackled in a cave! He was naked, covered in dirt, blood, and scratch marks, his eyes completely bloodshot, his face in anguish and exhaustion. And as you pointed out before, HE WAS FUCKING SIXTEEN!!!
FIFTEEN IF HIS HYDE WAS UNLOCKED BY LAUREL A YEAR BEFORE WEDNESDAY ARRIVED WHICH IS EVEN WORSE!!!!
He’s not this evil person, he’s a kid in so much pain because of the life card he was dealt. Because the people who were meant to protect and support him failed him. Why should he fucking apologise for being a monster when no one will apologise for turning him into one!
And when we try to argue this, one of them even suggested that it was because he wasn’t strong enough to overcome it and find joy. Hell, one of them even had them had the audacity to promote victim blaming when it came to Tyler and Laurel, by saying that he was willing to “sleep” with her. That there only solidified my disdain for these so called “fans”.

Hi y’all! Ive been missing lol. Don’t worry I still have so much analysis on Weyler in season 1, but before throwing myself all the way back in I want to do a quick play by play analysis on their first meeting! (I didn’t mean for it to be so long oops)
Right before Wednesday meets Tyler for the first time, she accidentally runs into a Jericho farmer who instead of checking on Wednesday only calls her a weirdo and turns away in disgust. This matters because it truly underlines the unforgiving attitude Jericho holds towards outcasts.
As we enter the Weathervane we see Tyler panicking and frustrated over the temperamental beast, the espresso machine. Wednesday pops up and we hear the disdain in Tyler’s voice upon seeing she’s a Nevermore student. Wednesday doesn’t care and only demands her quad. Tyler looks over at the machine confused by the reply. When she explains what it is we see Tyler break out into a smile and explain that while he understands what she’s putting down, he literally cannot do anything at the moment to help her as the machine is broken. After their drip breakdown Wednesday asks what is wrong with the machine, Tyler replies
“It’s a temperamental beast with a mind of its own, and it doesn’t help that the instructions are in Italian”
He observes as Wednesday grabs the book and quickly gets to work fixing the machine. You can see the look of bewilderment on his face as he asks if she reads italian.
Then Wednesday replies “of course it's the native tongue of Machiavelli”.
Wednesday offers to fix the machine in exchange for a taxi out of Jericho. Tyler makes it clear that Uber or a train are her only options.
Wednesday interjects explaining Tyler has a “valve issue” and that she's seen it before. Tyler replies “Where? You have one of these monsters at home?”
Wednesday explains her doll guillotine and Tyler still seems unsure and is slowly letting his snarky personality peek out when BOOM Wednesday fixes the espresso machine. Tyler is impressed and comments “I never met a Nevermore kid who got their hands dirty” and finally introduces himself.
He lets out his own brand of snark before offering her a ride to the train station after his shift. Wednesday tries to bribe him into leaving early but Tyler assures her he “can't be bought”. Wednesday agrees and sits to wait as Tyler gives her a second glance before chuckling to himself.
This introduction shows us clearly what the pair are going to be for each other.
Tyler is the espresso machine, a temperamental beast in his own right. Much like the broken machine ruining Tyler’s work routine, his hyde has caused dysfunction in his life. He doesn’t know how to identify the problem let alone address it. With the actual problem being a “valve issue” that Wednesday quickly fixes Tyler is impressed.
In an espresso machine the valve’s function is to regulate pressure so that the machine can safely continue chugging on. The machine is not a problem, it only needs its regulator controlled much like Tyler or his hyde (I have hard time calling it his hyde because in my head Tyler is not separate from Hyde, Tyler is just a hyde but whatever) needs to be regulated. The machine cannot work without the valve, and Tyler is who he is because he is a hyde. He does not need to be fixed, he just needs to figure out how to reconcile with his outcast genes. Considering Tyler does not know much about outcast society, and is in fact raised to be prejudiced towards it, his hyde is foreign to him much like the instruction manual is.
Enter Wednesday who not only grew up in Outcast society but who’s family is famous and respected within it. Much like she can read Italian with no issue, she also has first hand experience with “valve issues” (in this metaphor monster/outcast issues and emotional control). She is a perfect match to help Tyler address his hyde because she can easily read the signs and analyze what the hyde needs.
The specific callout to Machiavelli is important. Machiavellianism is associated with being cunning, manipulative, and strategic. The term comes from Machiavelli's book “The Prince,” where he argued that it's okay to do whatever it takes to gain power. Typically Machiavellians have little regard in adhering to moral or ethical standards. The primary focus is on money, power and competition whilst community, self-care, and family are thrown to the wayside.
Wednesday and Tyler could both be called Machiavellians, the difference is that Wednesday covets this trait publicly, whilst Tyler savors this side of himself in the shadows. Another key difference is that Wednesday exerts too much power and control while Tyler has none. The two share the similarity that unlike a Machiavellian they do care deeply about family and while not accepting it are community oriented people.
Both speak the same language, but Wednesday holds more control because she understands it while Tyler is still learning to interpret it.
Once Wednesday is able to fix the machine Tyler shows wonderment and it shows that maybe, just maybe, this girl can understand him and that she is different from other outcasts. His separation of Wednesday from other Nevermore kids also helps to quietly validate Wednesday’s need for individuality (especially from her parent’s alma mater).
They turn to talk about ways out of Jericho where it is decided that a train is the only option. In literature trains symbolize a lot. The first is often a journey (I trust you know why). In terms of relationships they can symbolize societal differences and obstacles, (think of how trains are separated by class and you are forced to move through cars to reach certain points). They also represent change, belonging, and control. For Wednesday I believe the train is meant to represent her attempts in control over her own social world. Wednesday has the bad habit of isolating herself because love and emotion scare her.
The steam for the espresso machine and the steam that powers the train represent this emotion. Tyler needs to learn to control the emotions that cause his hyde to wild out, and Wednesday needs to let go of control and isolation in regards to her emotions so her train can run. They both have problems with intimacy and emotion, but in opposite ways. Tyler offering passage to the station and Wednesday being able to recoordinate the espresso machine shows that the other has the capability the other needs to properly function.
When Wednesday tries to bribe Tyler he quickly shoots her down. He can't be bought or controlled so easily. I think this is to show that Tyler doesn’t truly care about power over others (money is useless without an economy) he only wants to respect his own autonomy. Wednesday relents and Tyler chuckles and it shows success for each character’s arc. Wednesday let go of control of when she left and gave it to Tyler, and Wednesday respected Tyler’s decision (that he based on his own moral identity). It’s truly the best little snippet of foreshadowing.
Or it could just be a cute romcom style coffee shop meet cute.

Reminder that the show didn’t need to add a tower with a partially burnt down roof and shattered windows, but they did anyway. Why? This without a doubt is Bradbury Tower, former home of the Hydes. They included it for a reason.

Average Wenclair harassment routine explaining why you need to stop shipping Wednesday and Tyler:
1. "You are mischaracterizing her by shipping her with someone who killed a bunch of innocent people"—GASPS—"HE’S A MURDERER!!"
2. "Wednesday would NEVER forgive him. HE HURT ENID. HE HURT EUGENE. HE HURT THING."
3. "TYLER ADMITTED HE ENJOYED KILLING ALL THOSE PEOPLE!!"
Mind you, all of these arguments can be disproven by simply remembering the tiny, apparently microscopic(🤨) detail that Tyler was abused, tortured, and groomed—not to mention the highly probable theory that the Hyde is the one who is violently unpredictable and a brutal murderer, not Tyler himself.
4. "Jenna doesn’t want romance! Jenna ships Wenclair! Emma ships Wenclair! Hunter ships Wenclair!!!" Throws a temper tantrum
So yes, please ignore them, mute them, or block them. It’s not worth it—they won’t fit some certain MAJOR plot details into their thick skulls. Choices were made. They are honestly not worth your time.
