Final Image and statement
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iso
In my project "Iso," I explore the concept of isolation through a series of three images, capturing what it feels like to be disconnected from the world. Isolation is a complex experience, and each person encounters it in their own way. For me, it’s about feeling as though I’m in my own world, cut off from everything around me. These images are a reflection of how I personally experience isolation, but they are also intended to show the viewers their own interpretation. My goal is to create a visual representation of isolation that prompts the viewer to reflect on their own moments of disconnection. This relates to my context being a poster that deals in the mental health aspect . A major inspiration for this project is Eduardo Asenjo Matus’ photography series "The Sound of Silence".  I also gained more insight on manipulation from "The Book Of Veles”, that the image I create can cause people to have different opinions and standpoints and that I should be wary that I am not harming anyone one with my images.
In my own series of images, I plan to capture scenes in public or crowded spaces where people are immersed in their surroundings. After taking these photographs, I will manipulate the images in post-production, using blur, distortion, and other effects to visually convey the sense of disconnect that I experience. By blurring the background or distorting the surrounding elements, the main subject of each image is colored while the background is black and white making it feel isolated as if they are in their own mental space, separate from the activity around them. This approach mirrors how I feel when I experience isolation: the world around me fades away, and I am left alone with my own thoughts and emotions.
A key part of this project is the idea of imperfection. In "The Sound of Silence", Matus talks about how some viewers criticized his photographs for being blurry, but he embraced this imperfection because it aligns with his vision of capturing something real and raw. In a world where people often look for perfection, Matus found beauty in the imperfect. This inspired me to think about isolation in the same way. When we feel isolated, it’s rarely a smooth, controlled experience, it’s often messy, incomplete, and disjointed. The imperfection of the blurred surroundings makes the isolated figure stand out more, reflecting how being disconnected from reality can also mean being in sharp focus within one’s own mind. Matus blurs the surroundings of his main subjects, making them stand out amidst the chaos of their environment. This technique immediately resonated with me because it perfectly captures the sensation of being physically present in a crowded space yet mentally and emotionally distant. The blur creates a sense of distortion, representing how reality feels when one is isolated it is vague, abstract, and out of focus.
Through my project, I want to explore how isolation feels in different moments and spaces. Whether in a busy street or a quiet room, the sense of being alone while surrounded by others is something many of us experience, but it manifests differently for each person. By distorting and manipulating the visual reality of these moments, I hope to capture the emotional reality of isolation. Each viewer will likely interpret these images differently, but I hope that they will recognize the feeling of being in their own world, even when the rest of the world is all around them.

Got really good feedback that i could use to improve my image even further. I also got feedback from David to help start writing the beginning paragraph of my positioning statement . Most of the common feedback i got from my peers was to show research and exploration in my statement.

Draft Project Statement
Iso is a project based on the concept of isolating oneself from the rest of the world. This idea of disconnection is different for everyone.
Sometimes, even in crowded spaces, we feel alone like we’re in our own world, cut off from everything around us. The noise and activity blur into the background, making the surroundings feel distorted, as if they aren’t quite real. That sense of isolation can be unsettling, as everything around us feels phased out or distant. How we experience this isolation varies from person to person. Some use headphones to block out their immediate environment, escaping into a world of their own through music, creating a mental space that disconnects them from reality.
In my project, I want to visually show what isolation feels like in these moments. Through photography, I’ll capture scenes in crowded or public places, then edit them to reflect how I experience these moments of disconnect. By manipulating the photos to blur, distort, or alter the surroundings, I hope to recreate the sensation of being alone in a busy place where everything feels distant and abstract, and the person stands apart, encapsulated in their own emotional space.
This concept will capture not just solitude, but the sense of isolation within a crowd.

3 Composition
Reflection:
I liked the first composition because it really shows the image i imagine. Lone person in there own little world. Everything is just a blur.
The second and third have similar mood but the execution of the editing and blurring could have been done better. I could have also changed the colors of the clothes to make the subject stand out, so they truly feels like they're in there own little world.

WEEK 10
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this photo shoot i wanted more poses that i could add into my final images so i can manipulate the image more to what i can imagine.
I also tried long exposure shots of my self just walking, running and standing. Creating these images of myself phasing. I wanted to add this blurry moment into my image to create that isolating feeling.

WEEK 10
Research:
“ The sound of silence”
Eduardo Asenjo Matus
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really liked the everything is blurred around the main subject. Really make them stand out. They talked about how there photographers friend say that the photo's are bad because they're blurry but Edurado says he fell in love with the imperfection of the images. Because in the area he lives in look for perfection in a image. Which truly feels like Edurado is alone on this outlook of photography. The images appear to be stacked with multiple images, with high exposure shots while also have a nearly clear subject.

Concept
The idea of isolation but deeper than that. Relating to it to my first assignment where the are trying to find happiness in their own little world. Where isolation creating a feeling of loneliness, that you start to feel like you are in your own little world. Through the use of location, poses an different elements that adds into the isolation.
Sometimes we can feel like we're alone in crowded spaces or spaces that are supposed to be crowded. You feel like your in your own little world. Everything around you is phased and blurry. The feeling is uncomfortable that it feels distorted. How i feel alone is different for everyone. Some people use things like headphones or earphones to cut themselves from there real life surrounding sound. Listening to music that creates a little world in there mind.
The context is about isolation from other', being in there own little world. A lone person in a crowded place. The concept is taking the photo's and editing them how i feel what isolation feel's.

Case study: The Book of Veles
The reading “The Book of Veles” by Jonas Bendiksen is a project that explores the themes of authenticity and deception in photography. Set in Veles, North Macedonia a known place for fake news, the book features bold images of fictional characters and scenes, all created using digital avatars and AI-generated text.
Bendiksen created this trick or lie as a visual experiment, provoking the photographic community to make out between genuine and fabricated imagery. The project successfully tricked many industry professionals, prompting critical discussions about the standards of truth in photojournalism.
Bendiksen's work is an indication about the dangers of misinformation and the need to evaluate visual narratives in a fast digital world. The project raises important questions about the future of documentary photography and the significance of authenticity in storytelling.
I feel that Jonas Bendiksen way of doing this social experiment shows how easy it is to deceive one another and also cause feuds between people through his deception and trickery. We should always be wary of the future of images, whether its real or not and should question it.

I wanted to know what kind of image it would give me if i was to tell it my general concept based of isolation. I first told it “Someone isolated in an empty space. "But it wasn't what i was going for. Then the next 2 more related to what i wanted. The feeling of isolation in a crowd but it also wasn't very creative its terms of settings, as space to it is just a room. I had to give it more keywords to create the next images to give it more content.
