"I'm sorry, this area is now occupied." Gwen muttered, not entirely sure the other in front of her was listening. She'd needed a moment alone but it was entirely impossible to do so when she looked at the track record of the program. "Unless you have champagne. Then you can join me."

"I'd say the view is still pretty good." Gwen replied with a cheeky grin, her eyes fixated on the other. "And of course no one wants to talk politics. Even when people talk politics, they don't want to be." She babbled on as he handed her another flute of champagne. "What if we went now?"

"Oddly enough... I don't smoke." She said with a grin. "But if I did, I'd let you bum a whole pack. Got any resolutions in mind already?"

"Could I please bum a cigarette? Last one of the year and everything." She paused before giving a light laugh. "Or perhaps of my life if I pick my resolutions well tonight." ( @hshqstarters )

"I'm not sure you want me to join. I'm not exactly known for my coordination..." She eyed the direction Ireti was pointing. "I'd be down for something a little more chill... like hot chocolate? Or regular ice skating?"

" there's an outdoor rink on that side of the hotel — " she gestured at the direction with her free hand . "Oh yeah. Ski trips, parties, dinners, fashion shows, nap time." She teased. "Ok, the last one is made up but if we're being honest, I wouldn't put it past them to do something similar." Gwen sighed. "That's a hard one. Carnival is the one that comes to mind most often."

" i didn't realize the program organized ski trips too... i'm starting to get why my brothers are happy to be representing us. "do you decorate at all is the better question." she teased with a grin. "i was kind of going for a vintagey vibe. you know, the warm tones of the the sixties and seventies mixed in with a little 80s flair."

he smiled a little, "yeah? i'm sure you didn't completely fuck it up unless you knocked down walls or something. i'll come see it but you'll have to tell me what vibe you were going for. i don't think i decorate with a vibe."

"you've met manon. i need an impartial third party. she'd just tell me she hated it and i'd never know the truth." gwen babbled on, thrilled to seemingly be the focus of the duke. so enthralled in her own world, she hardly noticed how he seemed to usher her a little too quickly away from their current setting. "like I said, I'm just going off of vibes at the moment and need you to tell me if it's utterly dreadful."

          “ you can't ask your — ” eyes alight, a sudden change to the heavy-lidded gaze once held for gwen. it played out very much like a horror film, plucked from the sandy shadows a figure, that of a crown royal he wished to avoid with the slander that would soon grace the black and white digital pages of every tabloid. less he be asked to help ' clean it up ' again. “ actually, yeah. yeah, let's go see your room. ” a hand fell to the space between her shoulder blades, ushering her to move from the exposed walkway as not to espy levente. he had honed many skills, even since his claim to dukedom, but one that had failed alexander was the imperceptible gleam that caught his eye just before a few loose strands were tugged on the already unraveling tapestry that was the royal house of croÿ.

"I think I've done it. However, I need a discerning eye to tell me whether or not I've totally fucked up my room." She paused. "Would you be willing to come back to my place and give me your thoughts on the new vibe?"

"But why though?" Gwen mused as she changed course to sit across from the other. "And no, it wasn't for you." She took a sip of her drink. "You strike me as the kind that needs caffeine to get you through the day?"

❝ I'M ACTUALLY CUTTING down my caffeine intake but thank you. ❞ he knew the drink the person placed on that table wasn't for him and they likely only wanted to take the empty seat across from sergi, that was just his way of saying he wasn't interested in company.

"What drinks do you mean? Like scotch or...?" Gwen shrugged as she rested beside her friend. "Ending up like Catherine doesn't seem like the worst thing in the world. Just look at her boss bitch attitude. Then again, I'm the elder of two sisters... we're not counting my brother right now, so maybe that's my destiny after all."

“Ah, gotcha. Then consider it dropped.” She countered, awkwardly shifting her weight back and forth for a moment. “Not sure I really like “the element of surprise” as a security measure but… not sure I really have a choice.” Gwen let out a sigh. “So… have fun with the wine tasting? I’m not sure I did as much tasting as I should’ve. More like drinking.”

“I do believe that’s what I said. I’m not sure when it happened but I think my brain... and well heart, blurred the lines a long time ago.” Gwen shrugged. “This isn’t the first time I’ve been in this situation and if anything, that made it easier. I care about our friendship more than I’d ever care about some silly little crush.”

“Why wouldn’t we be good?” She cocked a brow before folding her arms against her chest. “Just because you’re not into me doesn’t mean I can’t be an adult.” Gwen let out a sigh. “You’re one of my best friends. I was worried I had fucked things up, to be honest.” She ran a hand through her hair. “I love you and I’ll always love you. Will I always be in love with you, no. But I can’t imagine what life would be like without you in it.”

" –––– in love, with me?” An inquisitive eyebrow raises at her,  blindly for how deeply her feelings may have been and how wrong he has played into them. A selfish act of preservation, he understood well. “I love you, Gwen and I’ll always be your friend, and I’m sorry for how what I did make you feel.”

“Seeing as I don’t normally hit people outside of a good natured jest, no. Don’t think it would make me feel anything to hit you.” She shrugged. “I’m not going to tell you what she said but I am open to hearing what you think went down.”

“You can’t... or you won’t? Because there’s a big difference there.” She had Manon’s side and would always have her sister’s back, but she didn’t know what the other thought had happened. “As her sister, I feel like it’s my duty to punch you.”

“Oooh, I was just being general but I think we both know how you were being an idiot. I’d like you to use that big brain and think hard.”

“I think I lost a few IQ points after we rolled down the hill. If you’re talking about your sister, well I can’t apologize for being an idiot there.”
