...
he pauses for a moment, because it’s a fair question. why is he so worried? “i’m worried because it’s what you would do for me. i won’t ask you why you’re lying to me, but please take care of yourself.” it feels like there’s more to say. he thinks of himself a year ago, and how he would’ve killed or died to be someone else, or convincingly pretend to be for long enough to have some respite from the reality he ran from. now, he is facing it, and it would be a lie to say he feels better. it is difficult, and most days, it feels like the grief is gutting him. he sees the ghosts of etlia everywhere around him, and sometimes he dreams that he drove his own sword into the hearts of the men he grew up with, that fought alongside him and died for their country and for him.
does he regret returning here, though? sometimes, and yet he knows in his heart he must do this; that eventually, he will find peace in this that he would never find while running away. “some things…aren’t worth running from,” he settles on telling her. “i hope you’ll be able to stop when you’re ready to.”
she hated lying to him, hated that she didn’t know what would happen if she were to reveal the truth to finn, though she couldn’t exactly take that chance and risk it all. hugo’s words still haunted her, feng wu having realized just how unpredictable the man could get when things didn’t go according to his plans. would he come after finn? send someone else to kill him? she wasn’t sure and she honestly feared what the outcome would be, the fate of the male in front of her seeming to fall into her own hands even though she didn’t want it to. the way that he looks at her, the way he speaks even, has her at some point thinking that she had managed to convince him she wasn’t feng wu, though the moment that she removes her hand and reveals her wound and scar from her previous wound, she instantly realizes she had messed up.
even as she catches the healing item tossed to her, feng wu remains silent. she only listens to what he says to her, the pain in her arm surging down to her fingertips as she makes a small attempt at hiding her arm behind her, though she freezes in place the moment he explains why he’s so worried. that alone has her fighting back the tears that threaten to brim her eyes, quick to turn her gaze away from him and forced to focus on the background behind him instead. it’s then that she realizes that he hadn’t bought onto her act, that he didn’t believe a single word she had just told him about her being ‘dead’, and that previous fear for him only begins to grown deep inside.
“don’t be... i’m fine...” she speaks in a low tone, just above a whisper, as she finally glances down at the healing item in her hand. would he be able to protect himself if she gave him a heads up? warned him that something dangerous might come his way now that he knows she’s still alive? even though he was technically one of the stronger people that she knows, compared to hugo that meant nothing. “actually-...” her words are cut off the moment she sees a figure a slight distance away from them just over finn’s shoulder.
her eyes widen, quick to tuck the healing item away before she draws her sword, using her free hand to quickly shove finn out of the way and places herself between him and the other hooded figure. “well, well... what do we have here?” the figures deep voice sounds, a hint of amusement laced in his tone as he does. “this isn’t what he sent you here for... xiu.” as the man takes a step closer, feng wu is quick to point the tip of her blade towards the man, clenching her teeth together as she stares at him. “he has nothing to do with this. besides, i haven’t forgotten what i came here for.” she speaks in a threatening tone this time, daring the figure to even try something. true, she’s a lot more weak than the man and finn, though she wouldn’t let someone hurt anyone that she cared about.
“if i remember correctly, you were instructed not to touch me. correct?” she glances over her shoulder briefly to look at finn, whispering to him as she does so. “get out of here.” returning her attention to the man as she hears a dark, sinister, laugh, her eyebrows furrow in confusion momentarily. “i’m not here for you. i’m here for him. you broke the biggest rule-..” his words are then cut short as a monster lunges out of what seems like nowhere, tackling the man to the ground in the process. it’s then that feng wu takes this opportunity to sheath her sword, glancing around quickly before she grabs a hold of finn’s arm and makes her way into a side door, practically dragging him along with her. when inside, she quickly covers his mouth with her slightly more ‘clean’ hand, motioning for him to keep quiet but also trying to keep herself quiet due to the unbearable pain in her arm.

...
is she safe, though? that’s his next concern. “are you…safe?” he asks aloud, though he supposes feng wu doesn’t owe him an answer to that question either. “ah, i’m sorry,” he realizes. “i told you i wouldn’t ask you any questions. you see, feng wu is my friend…and i do still believe you’re her. i don’t know why you need to run from me, but as i said…you don’t need to tell me. i just…want you to be okay. and even if you truly aren’t feng wu, i would still like to help you. i don’t know if you’ve heard, but some believe the monsters are attracted to the smell of blood. it would be safer for everyone if we treat your wound as soon as possible.”
what was she supposed to do in this situation? all of her training with hugo didn’t prepare her for meeting familiar faces, nor had she really managed to pull off even acting like she had an evil bone in her body, though she does recall the moments of seeing hugo’s expressions change over the past few months. the anger, wrath, that the man would often let show when she couldn’t do something right. maybe that’s what it would take to convince finn that she wasn’t ‘feng wu’.
thankfully, upon changing up her appearance with a bit of magic from an old friend of hugo’s, she had managed to not only change her hair, but also her eyes as well. would that be enough to make him think she was some random stranger? she wasn’t quite sure, though she had to at least try. there was no telling what would happen to him if he found out that she really was feng wu, that she was really standing there in front of him after not seeing one another for months.
closing her eyes slowly, inhaling and slowly exhaling, she finally turns to look at him. her silver eyes staring at him and looking as if she had no emotion in them whatsoever. now she understood why hugo had insisted on her changing her appearance before sending her back out into the real world once again, now she knows that it had been a precaution to help her in moments such as this one, yet she still didn’t know why she had to hide who she was. she never once questioned it out loud to the older man though when he spoke on the matter. “if you’re going to address someone, at least know their name before assuming they’re someone you know.” she scoffs before continuing. “the name is xiu. xiu of aegirae.” her words come out effortlessly, almost as if she believes it herself that she is this new identity that had been given to her back then.
glancing down at her arm casually, she raises a brow before returning her attention to finn. “you know... i might have actually heard of this person you call feng wu, though if i recall correctly-” there’s a short pause as she removes her hand from her arm, her hand now covered in her own blood as she holds her palm up to face herself. “she’s dead. apparently a few months ago some bandits got a hold of this feng wu. at least that’s how the story goes. there was even a reward out for the capture of those bandits, however, it seems as if they just vanished into thin air.”
nodding towards him, she finally holds her hand out. “hand it over.” it’s true that she could easily heal her own wound, though if she were to do that in front of finn... well, he’d figure out who she really was. that is, if he hadn’t fully figured it out by now himself. “why are you so worried about a dead person anyway? even if you two were friends as you claim, how could you not even know this bit of information that has been circling around?”

...
“feng wu!” he calls out to her, finally moving again, following the direction the woman went. in the moments he stopped running, she kept running, creating a larger distance between them. he thinks he can catch up to her, though. he spent a lot of time running and exercising in his life, while feng wu mostly studied magic, correct? surely he can run faster.
he does. he gains on her. “wait!” he pants. “i’m not going to ask you any questions! i just want to make sure you’re okay.” he won’t ask her, but he still has a question himself: what is she really running from?
she can’t believe that this is happening right now. out of all the people she could have run into today, it had to be finn. despite her wanting to catch up with him, wanting to see how he had been these past few months, she can’t risk it and she can’t help but remember everything that hugo had told her over the time she had been training under the man.
there was no doubt that what hugo had said to her was true, that he had eyes and ears everywhere, so the fact that she had even bumped into finn at this very moment only made her instincts kick in the moment that she had realized who he was. yeah, it was a bit suspicious for her to begin running right away, though it’s all she could possibly think about in that moment.
she can hear him running after her, knowing very well that he was likely to catch up to her at some point since he was more physically fit than she was, though it doesn’t stop her from attempting to lose him. feng wu isn’t sure exactly what would happen to him if hugo were to find out about their meeting, and the more she runs, the more she realizes that this is all for nothing, especially when she hears finn getting closer behind her. there’s nothing she can do at this moment but to slow down, eventually coming to a stop as she attempts to catch her breath and glances down at the claw marks on her arm which is the reason behind her pain and now lightheadedness.
once she hears the footsteps behind her, she makes a point to muster up every ounce of consciousness she has left to ignore the pain in her arm, feeling the blood trickling down her arm and eventually her fingertips, and act as if she were an entirely different person. silence at first, thinking of what she should say to him, what she should do to convince him that she’s not feng wu... at least, not anymore she isn’t. finally after a moment she speaks, keeping her back towards him to hopefully help play into the act that she’s about to put on in front of him.
“who are you? why are you following me?” she pauses for a moment before continuing. “you want to concern yourself with such a small scratch? don’t worry, it’s fine. also, i’m not sure who this ‘feng wu’ is you speak of, but you’ve got the wrong person.” she makes a point to try and change the tone of her voice as she says all of this, wanting to at least sound a little less like her old self to help possibly convince him that she’s not who he thinks that she is. ‘remember, i have eyes and ears everywhere.’ those words replay in her mind over and over again as she stands there, her only worry being that she wants to keep finn safe from whatever hugo had meant when he told her these words.

facing dangerous situations was something that feng wu wasn’t used to. she was used to being safe, used to having someone there to save her in those rare situations where danger threatened her, however, she couldn’t expect something like this to ever happen to her.
she was only supposed to be out long enough to gather some medical herbs, telling her mother that she would return home before sunset but little did she know that she would find herself in such a dangerous situation as she was in at that moment. the sun had set, leaving nothing but darkness and the faint light from the moon in the sky as a source of light for her, her breathing heavy and quick as she runs through the trees.
she shouldn’t have gone out, should have listened to her mother when she told her to stay home the first time, but feng wu had begged the woman and told her she would be safe. she wasn’t safe.
the bandits behind her didn’t seem like they would give up anytime soon, determined to hunt her down no matter how long it took, yet despite her inner voice telling her to keep running it’s as if her legs give out right from under her. she ends up tripping, falling to her hands and knees as her sobbing continues, feng wu can hear the footsteps behind her as the three bandits slow their pace once they’ve finally caught up to her. “have you finally had enough?” there’s some laughter from the three men as she looks up at them. “please.. i gave you all of the money that i have...” her voice is hoarse as she speaks, lungs feeling as if there are hundreds of knives stabbing through her. “oh but i believe you have more. those nice clothes you wear are proof that you’re hiding more somewhere. maybe if we hold you hostage, we can get a nice chunk of money from someone who is looking for you. hm?”
shaking her head quickly, she looks up at the one who spoke. “i... i don’t have anyone. please, just let me go.” of course she’s lying, she has her mother, father and, well she guesses the man that her father had arranged a marriage for her with despite her refusal, though she didn’t want to put anyone in harms way just because of her.
“so you think we’re stupid?! don’t think we haven’t seen you many times wandering through town more than once, buying some quite expensive items in the marketplace. we weren’t born yesterday!” as soon as the last word leaves the mans mouth he lifts his hand back, ready to hit her for lying to them, though before he’s able to make contact a man steps out from, what seems like thin air, or rather he had just approached silently without any of them noticing. “now, what do we have here?”
he looks to be in his late 20s, early 30s, the clothing he’s wearing mostly black which would possibly explain why no one had seen him before he decided to speak.
“mind your own business. where the hell did you even come from?!”
“mind my own business?”
“did i stutter? yeah, mind your business. this has nothing to do with you so just run along and-” before the bandit can get the rest of his sentence out, as he approaches the new stranger as if he’s ready to attack, feng wu watches in horror as a dark orb appears and falls upon the bandit, soon after it disappears to only reveal... nothing.
the bandit is just gone, as if he was never there to begin with. like he never existed.
feng wu’s eyes widen in shock and horror as she stares at the spot where the bandit had been, gaze slowly drifting to the stranger, though before she can even process what’s going on the other two bandits are charging towards the man.
almost as if she found some sort of strength again within that moment, feng wu takes advantage of the situation in order to stand once again, rushing deeper into the trees until she feels like she’s far away enough to finally give into her legs giving out on her again. she does her best to hide behind one of the trees, hugging her knees to her chest as she tries to hold back the sobs, the scene from just moments ago replaying through her mind as she then buries her face into her knees.
she can only hear silence surrounding her, the only sound she hears is the sound of her muffled sobs. how did she end up here? why didn’t she just stay home for once instead of being so stubborn? hadn’t she learned from her previous mistake the day that she encountered those bandits and finn had to save her?
her endless questions running through her mind come to a halt the moment she hears footsteps approaching from the same direction she had just come from moments before, holding her breath as if that would help conceal her. only after a moment she dares to peek up but jumps in shock as a pair of eyes stair back at her, the pair of eyes from the man who she had just ran away from while he fought those bandits.
“there’s no need to be scared. i won’t hurt you and neither will those pesky bandits. they’ve been dealt with accordingly.”
dealt with accordingly? he meant that he killed them, though feng wu felt some remorse for them regardless of their intentions. they were still human after all, still had lives just like the rest of them, and they didn’t deserve to die despite their bad deeds.
“do you want to be stronger? to be able to defend yourself in situations like that back there? i can teach you, i can help you so that you never have to be afraid again.”
his voice is calm, different than the tone he had used towards the bandits. it hadn’t been threatening, though the way he spoke back there showed that he was quite serious and wouldn’t just back off so easily. feng wu was witness to that herself. she watches as he holds his hand out towards her, offering it to her as if silently saying that the moment she takes his hand then she’s agreeing to his proposition, and she can’t help but stare at the hand.
a voice in her head speaks, telling her to run and reject the man, though there’s another voice that seems to speak louder to her.
“do it. he can make you stronger! do you want to keep depending on others to save you all the time? your father? mother? your knight, titus? finn? they can’t keep protecting you, they’ll only end up dead that way. because of you. take his hand and give up the life you live now. do it!”
before she knows it, and realizes what she’s doing, feng wu lifts her hand slowly and takes the strangers hand. with his help, she slowly stands though the fear from what she witnessed is still there. it’s as if her body was listening to that voice which told her to go with him, to quit being such a coward, and it’s almost as if she can’t control herself.
“what is your name?” he asks this, causing her to look up at him finally. “feng wu... sir...” she watches as the man squints, unsure if it’s anger or just the way he looks with the very little light that is available. “not anymore it isn’t. from now on your name is Xiu. do you understand? no one can know you’re alive, you can’t contact anyone that you know or it can risk not only your life, but theirs as well.”
she’s confused. why change her name? she was feng wu, the daughter of feng derang von felice and yanhae xiao chuo. did she really have to go that far? fake her own death and hide away? there were more questions, though she doesn’t have time to ask a single one before she’s being led off.
1 ᴍᴏɴᴛʜ ʟᴀᴛᴇʀ. . .
feng wu has been missing for a month now. the man who ‘saved’ her, who she had found out was named hugo, had faked her death and made it known for as far as he could. a part of her didn’t want the fake news to reach any of her loved ones, though the words he spoke to her that night made her hope that they had. she didn’t know why their lives would be at risk, though she didn’t want to chance it.
for a month now, she had lived as xiu rather than feng wu, learning under hugo in aegirae.
he claimed that it was best to learn far away from her home, this way she wouldn’t be distracted or even found by any of her family. a way for her to keep herself hidden if she were to be farther away from ganggyn, and she believed it. it was mostly due to the progress she was slowly making ( despite the harsh teaching ways that hugo had ) and she was able to focus on what he wanted to teach her.
she would be lying if she said she didn’t miss her family, though hugo would always pick up on this when she would mess up during their training sessions, leading to a punishment which was painful until eventually she suppressed those feelings and forced herself to forget her previous life. she had to.
“again! start over! don’t faulter unless you really want to die by your enemies hands!” the angry shouting from hugo brings her back to her senses, dodging the sword swinging towards her and blocking it with her own, though she doesn’t notice his free hand until she’s feeling the pain in her stomach as his fist makes contact, sending her back and causing her to fall backwards onto the ground. “you’re distracted again, xiu! what did i tell you?! get on your knees and hold your hands out! NOW!”
she complies, closing her eyes as she holds the palms of her hands out towards him. the contact of the whip against her palms stings, biting on her bottom lip to hold back the sound that threatens to escape from her. this was one of the more painful punishments for not doing as she’s told, one of which she found out upon her arrival a month ago would be used if she didn’t make progress. of course she could easily heal most of her wounds by now, though there were some she had from the past month which wouldn’t heal fully due to how deep they were, or even the method used.
“now, get up and go again!”
at this point in time, it was as if she forcibly became mute in order to not say the wrong things and make the man mad. whether it was due to being afraid of him, or just because she didn’t trust herself to ask the many questions she kept all this time, either way she would only speak when he asked her something that actually required a verbal answer.
1 ᴍᴏɴᴛʜ ᴀɢᴏ. . .
"in a month exactly, i’m sending you to soule. just because it’s near ganggyn DOESN’T mean you can take a detour and go home. remember that feng wu is DEAD and no one is to know you are alive. i’m putting your training to a test, however, if you fail then you’ll really be dead so your life is in your own hands. i’ve notified the school so there’s no need to worry about that, you’ll just have to work harder when you return.”
they were now in omaduun, hugo having told her a month prior that she would be studying there because he had other matters to attend to and wouldn’t have time to teach her much for a while. apparently this would also help with her new identity while also help make some ‘allies’ for future use.
what that meant? she wasn’t sure, but she never really questioned what hugo told her at this point. instead she just went along with it all because the pain from being hit was still something she hated, especially since she had grown up in such a loving household where she never got hit once.
placing her right hand over her chest, she bows slightly, her now dark hair falling forward and the silver seeming to glisten under the light. “yes, master.” standing straight once again, she looks at hugo with an expressionless face as she speaks again. “i’ve prepared everything for your travels, along with some medical supplies in case you need them.” this causes the man to finally face her, no longer showing his back to her, grinning just slightly as he walks towards her and pats her a couple times on the shoulder. “perfect. as long as you don’t let me down in soule, then everything will go smoothly after, but if you go against my warning and step foot into ganggyn i’ll give you twice the punishment when you return.” a small pause before he continues, this time his tone more dark and sinister than before. “don’t forget, i have eyes EVERYWHERE. one wrong move and i’ll know about it. understood?”
“yes, i understand.” she says this while nodding slightly, watching as he waves her off before she turns to leave the room to begin packing for her own travels.
to think, the girl who once refused to pick up a sword, the girl who didn’t want to harm a soul, was now the girl who owned her very own sword and would actually fight back if needed. no, she hadn’t encountered anyone during her time training under hugo ( mostly because he refused to let her out of his sight ), but now she knew how to at least fight enough to save herself in dire situations which she once would have ended up being killed. even her magic was improving, slightly quicker than before when she was back in ganggyn, though there was always room for improvement in both her sword skills and magic skills.
even though she had a slight uneasy feeling the moment that hugo told her to travel to soule, she pushes that feeling to the side as she tells herself that he wouldn’t send her if he didn’t think she was ready for... whatever it was. though that was probably partially her hopeful thinking that he wasn’t really as bad as he seemed to be at times.
ɴᴏᴡ. . .
feng wu stares up at the night sky through the window of the inn she was staying at. travelling after being hidden away for the past three months almost felt unfamiliar to her, as if this was the first time she had ever stepped foot out into the real world, though technically it was since she gained a new identity.
while ‘feng wu’ had travelled quite often in the past, ‘xiu’ had never really been out there. so in a way this was somewhat new to her in a sense, but really it wasn’t like she had much freedom regardless. what would have happened back then if she had stayed home that night? what would have happened to her if she told hugo ‘no’? would he have let her go or really killed her? there was a small part of her that wished she could have just returned home that night and acted as if nothing had happened.
she missed her parents, titus and even finn who she had reconnected with at the time, at least when she allowed herself to think of them. did they even think of her? did she at least have a proper burial? what if her parents didn’t know that she was ‘gone’? maybe that would be best. they could still smile and continue on with no sadness and pain.
even though she still wasn’t quite sure why hugo sent her to soule, and she knew that he wasn’t there personally to keep her on her toes, she remembers the words he had told her. that he has eyes everywhere, and it’s because of this alone that she doesn’t ponder on her thoughts any longer in order to save herself from the consequences later on. even if hugo claims that her thoughts could be a distraction and get her killed, she wonders if there’s another reason behind him wanting her to forget her past completely.
shaking her head and sighing softly, feng wu steps inside and heads back to her room. she needs to sleep before her own thoughts consume her, before she goes against hugo and heads to ganggyn. she can’t risk anything with this trip and she won’t allow herself to let all of that hard work from the past three months go to waste just because of her own desires.
maybe when she returned she could ask hugo to grant her just a few days in order to secretly check in on her parents. even if it does result in another punishment, it would still be worth asking and possibly getting approval.
for now she’ll sleep and do her best to figure out why exactly he sent her all this way. for now she’ll continue as xiu and keep feng wu buried deep in the back of her mind, locked away and unseen.

Ice Flower
...
he draws his sword once again, and tries to use the element of surprise to his advantage, while the creature is so preoccupied by the person in the hood. he approaches carefully from behind, then lunges forward, driving his sword straight through the creature’s shoulder blades. it lets out a shriek, and collapses to the ground. finn stabs it once more for good measure. these things are undead, after all…or something like that.
he flicks the monster’s weird-colored blood off his sword and onto the ground, then turns his attention to the person in the cloak in front of him. he bows quickly to them in greeting. they must have reason to hide their identity. finn understands that much, and doesn’t intend to pry, despite a little curiosity. instead, he gets to what’s most important: “are you hurt?”
to say she was fully prepared to take on such monsters on her own would be a lie, of course. she was still learning the ins and outs to fighting, still weak in most areas that others had probably spent most, if not their whole, lives learning while she only had a few months under her belt to even claim. even then, feng wu had mostly practiced with her teacher and even though the man hadn’t taken it easy on her, he still was nowhere near as rough with her during their small combats like this monster was at the moment.
of course it was different, this beast was out for blood and wouldn’t stop even if it noticed her weakness’ or even struggles as it charged at her head on.
she didn’t even have time to take a moment and think on how to properly deal with this being, soon after she had dodged the monster she could tell it was getting irritated that she wasn’t giving up so easily and she stares at it from underneath her hood. it’s as if the two were waiting for the other to make a move first, calculating what the other would do next, though it’s as if the feng wu and the monster were too focused on one another that they didn’t even hear the sound of footsteps coming towards them.
at first she doesn’t realize what’s happening, even when the monster swings out at her as it lets out a loud shriek, managing to land a blow on her upper arm in the process as it falls to the ground. she flinches at the stinging pain, quickly covering the shredded fabric of her sleeve and glancing down at the blood. thankfully she could at least heal herself easier than she could before, though that didn’t mean it still didn’t hurt like any other wound would.
maybe she’s too preoccupied by the stinging pain that she doesn’t fully register the voice coming from the stranger, though when it finally clicks in her mind she quickly looks up from under her hood to see the familiar face she once knew. finn. no, he couldn’t see her like this. what would he say? what would he think?! she had to get out of here quick.
taking a few steps back from him, she keeps quiet knowing that her voice would most definitely give her identity away, and before another word could be spoken she quickly sheaths her sword, turning swiftly and running. where she was going, she wasn’t sure, but she couldn’t face the male with her current appearance.
turning a corner, she isn’t paying attention to the fact that the small gust of wind had already blown her hood off of her head which would give away who she was. all she could think about was getting as far away as she could from finn. she didn’t want him to see who she had become, nor did she think that she could really explain why she had changed since the last time the two of them had spoken.

Ice Flower
a closed starter for @finnuf
her life practically changed overnight, the old feng wu that others once loved was now dead.
what exactly changed within the past few months? it was complicated really, though the main reason for her big change of heart was that she was tired of being useless. when it came to defending herself, feng wu hated seeing others getting hurt, or even killed, because of her. so, in the end, she basically disappeared without a word to anyone.
her parents believed she was back at lotus academy, continuing her studies and living her life as some fragile young woman, though that was far from the actual truth. the night that she left, saying her farewells to her father and mother, she pushed aside that fear and hatred for wars and bloodshed, promising to herself that she would do whatever she had to in order to protect herself and those that she cared about most.
did she still disagree with the ways of the world they lived in? of course, though she couldn’t continue living in that mindset. she had to force herself to go against her own oath to never hold a weapon, she had to give up that life of being afraid and hiding behind others, depending on them to protect her while she watched as they became injured. because of her, she had to see even friends covered in wounds to protect her. now, as she takes a small detour into seodal for a short moments rest, she sits at a table as she sips on the drink in front of her.
it seems peaceful, for the most part, meaning she just might be able to relax before she continues on her journey. at least that’s what she was hoping for when she suddenly hears a shrilling scream followed by a strange sound.
peeking up from underneath the hood of her cloak, she spots a monster, the hideous being obviously out looking for its next ‘meal’.
feng wu knows that she’s not fully capable of taking on such a beast, not with her lack of skills that she was still working on, but she couldn’t exactly just stand by and watch as the being attacked the civilians. even if she were to die here today, at least she wouldn’t have just sat by and watched, or even ran away scared.
the moment that she stands, her sword is already in her hand, the hood over her head only allowing anyone to see from her mouth down to her chin. she makes a noise by tapping her sword against a nearby building to get the monster’s attention, lifting her head just slightly in order to see the being turning towards her as it snarls at her, its body language showing that it’s getting ready to attack. then, as if someone has signaled the fight to pursue, it dashes towards her.
feng wu’s magic wasn’t useful enough for fights, only really able to do heal and shine at the moment, so she would actually have a better chance with using her sword, though the thought of her magic being weak only makes her even more determined to study harder in order to become stronger. that is, if she made it out of this situation alive. the second that the monster thrashes out towards her, she manages to barely block the attack, swinging her sword out but missing, her body turning to avoid being hit. she manages to make contact soon after with her blade, however that only seems to make the monster even more agitated causing it to swing out at her, hitting her and sending her to the ground.
‘you can’t always depend on others to risk their lives for you. if you want to protect yourself, to live a strong life without waiting on others to swoop in and save you, you must learn to fight for yourself. only you can depend on yourself.’
those were the words spoken to her by her teacher. no, not a teacher at school but the man who had found her a few months back as she wandered around aimlessly. those words echo in her mind as she quickly rolls out of the way, dodging the oncoming attack before jumping to her feet. she wouldn’t give up so easily, she wouldn’t go down without a fight no matter what happened.

...
no, of course she is. feng wu is one of the kindest souls he’s ever met. he’s sure she would fret over even a mere acquaintance’s disappearance, and they were certainly more than that. he would’ve considered them friends, and now…can they be again? or will they go their separate ways after this, only reuniting again by coincidence in the future too?
finn isn’t sure he knows how to have friends anymore, or if he deserves them, not just because of all of his failures, but because he doesn’t think he can be a good one in return.
“are you alright?” he asks her quietly, and he realizes it’s a vague question, but that’s for the best. feng wu was injured herself, and he knows how much she hates violence. she must be shaken up, and knowing her, she’ll say she’s fine whether she is or not, but it would feel wrong if he didn’t check on her.
feng wu manages a small smile at his words, slowly shaking her head before she sighs softly. “don’t make a habit of this. i think i’ve had my fair share of seeing blood for... well, the rest of my life.” she tries to joke, though her expression changes instantly, her smile vanishing. one of the perks of taking after her mother in some areas was that she was kind and cared about every living soul that roamed this planet, unlike her father who would gladly go to war himself if needed. she remembers the many times that her mother was sent off to care and tend to those injured from war, the stories that the older woman told her and how she had almost lost her own life just helping heal their wounds.
it made feng wu wonder if she’d ever be able to do this herself, risk going out onto the battlefield to help those in need, risking her own life, and as much as she’d love to say that she would she honestly wasn’t so sure of that anymore after today. did that make her a bad person? was she being selfish for having doubts now? probably so, but she knows that in the end she would help regardless of her own fear of death.
this was why her father wanted her to learn how to wield a sword, why he was so dead set on her training to defend herself, because he knows that one day she may end up in the same position as her mother. she knows that one day she’ll be on the battlefield healing the weak and injured, yet she can’t force herself to really pick a sword up no matter how dangerous any future situations may seem.
“it’s okay. really... if it weren’t for you risking your life then i-” she stops for a moment, shaking her head quickly as if to shake the images out of her head that appear in that moment. “i probably wouldn’t be alive right now.” she finishes her sentence, though it comes out just above a whisper as her gaze falls towards his newly bandaged wounds. she wishes she could heal him completely, though maybe that was why she just needed to work even harder. feng wu needed to master healing so that she could confidently, and easily, heal another with no need to have bandages or post-medicine to help finish the healing process.
only when she hears his question does her attention return to him, glancing up at him before looking down at her own wound and nodding slowly. “i’m okay.” she says the few words though she’s lying, either to him or herself, or even both and it’s even more evident that she’s not okay with the way that her hands are still shaking slightly. feng wu hadn’t fully realized this until now, not since she was so focused on making sure she properly took care of finn’s wounds. “i’ll finish healing a little later, but for the most part i’m not in any serious danger or at risk.” she assures him by looking back up and managing a gentle smile, slowly standing as she begins to clean up the mess, reorganizing some of the disarranged bottles she had used earlier before.
realizing something, she quickly turns to look at finn, reaching for her small pouch and looking inside before sighing softly. “i don’t think i have enough to really thank you for helping me...” feng wu chews on her bottom lip momentarily before getting an idea. “this may be a weird form of payment for helping but... could i pay you with a homecooked meal instead? it’s not much but the most i can do right now until mother gets home later.”
it was probably one of the worst forms of payment, but for now she hoped it would do until she got some more allowance, especially since the money she had brought with her was now ruined on the ground of some alleyway.

...
he doesn’t know if that’ll actually lessen feng wu’s guilt, and he knows denying her treatment would only make matters worse, so he does as she instructs, quite used to this as well: drinks both of the liquids from the bowls she hands him, then sets them down beside him. “it’s a bit regretful that we didn’t have time to catch up first,” he says. then again, maybe this will bode better for whatever friendship they once had that may or may not extend into the future. when he first saw her, he wasn’t even sure he wanted to intervene. now, however, finn feels inclined to talk, if only to set feng wu at ease.
“i’m a mercenary now. i live in podakko, actually, so i fight a lot these days. this is basically just another day of work for me.”
even though she can tell that his injuries aren’t too serious, that he’ll live at least, she still can’t help but feel guilty for getting him into this situation to begin with. even as she listens to what he says, preparing some bandages on a small table beside her, she can’t help but to shake her head at what he says to her. “even so... you wouldn’t be like this if it weren’t for me...” she says this as she finally takes in a deep breath and sighs, closing her eyes as she tries her best to shove any unwanted memories of what had just happened out of her mind.
maybe her father was right, maybe she should focus on perfecting her sword skills, however, she still hated violence. even though the world that they lived in was surrounded with it, that was one thing she absolutely despised. feng wu continued to hope that one day the violence would come to an end, that people would stop fighting and killing one another, though she knows that it’s all just wishful thinking on her part.
opening her eyes, she looks up at finn, blinking a few times before she finally allows the information sink in. so that’s where he had been this whole time, what he had been doing when everyone was spreading rumors about him being dead. he was actually alive and well, for the most part that is. “so you’re saying... you’ve been alive this whole time and haven’t let a single soul know?” her eyebrows furrow inwards. “we were all worried something bad had happened, that...” she can’t bring herself to even say the words outloud, instead lowering her head and averting her attention to his wounds.
here she thought that her life was rough, especially after recently being forced into an engagement, but in reality it was him who had it worse. feng wu couldn’t even imagine what it was like having to fight everyday, to be put in these types of situations where you never know if you’ll make it out alive or not. actually, it wasn’t something that she even wanted to think about.
letting out a small sigh, she closes her eyes once more as she lifts her hand and allows it to hover above one of his wounds, putting her full attention into healing him up to the best of her abilities. though there was still that question in the back of her mind as to why finn had left the way that he had, why he didn’t say a word to anyone, especially her. were they really not friends like she had once thought they were? no, focus. she couldn’t think of that right now. she had to focus on healing him so that she could at least somewhat pay him back for helping her back there.
feng wu is silent, focused on the task at hand, and after a few moments she is able to finally finish tending to his wounds. opening her eyes slowly, she can tell that she obviously still needs some practice, and a lot more improvement, however the open wounds were at least mostly taken care of.
she stands and makes her way over towards the small table once more, grabbing the bandages before she goes back over to where he’s at, taking her time to dress his wounds so that they won’t get infected as they finish the last stages of healing. “i can’t fully heal you, but i’ll give you some medicine to put on the wounds to help keep them from getting infected until they’re fully healed.” she states, finishing up before she stares at what she had just done, the memory returning of the exact moment he had even gotten the injury.
a moment later, feng wu is looking up at him but this time she has a soft smile as she does so. “thank you... thank you for not only helping me today, but also for still being around, even if you aren’t always safe.”

taste of freedom.
@ufwu
...
he stops in his tracks as he spots a familiar face in an unfamiliar location. they were in his little corner in the far reaches of the castle gardens where only gardeners stop by occasionally. no servant ever passes by, let alone guests of honor, but his expression softens when he sees the troubled look on her face.
“lady feng,” he greets gently with a bow, before approaching her. “may i ask why you’re all the way out here?”
there was only so long that certain situations could be avoided before people found ways to get what they wanted, in this case it was her father and how he managed to trick her into coming with him on his little ‘business trip’ he had arranged. little had feng wu known, his trip was all for the plans he had of arranging a marriage for her. she had been able to get out of the previous arrangements, telling her father that she wasn’t ready for such matters, however, this time she couldn’t avoid it no matter how much she wanted to.
feng wu had managed to sneak away, to slip out unnoticed to at least get a little fresh air before the inevitable happened. did her mother even know about this? if she did, well she sure didn’t tell her own daughter and at least warn her ahead of time. traitor.
after slipping away, she had walked quite a distance before finding a rather quiet area in the gardens, figuring that at least this area would be a nice little hiding spot for a short while. so far it had been clear, not a single soul in site, and she took this time to ponder over her own thoughts in between taking in the scenery around her, though maybe it’s because she was too deep in thought that she hadn’t even realized a figure approaching her or even heard a sound until she hears the males voice.
quickly turning her attention to the male, feng wu was prepared to apologize for trespassing, for being somewhere that she probably wasn’t even allowed to be at, but the moment that she realizes who the person is, feng wu lets out a small breath of relief. she manages a faint smile before greeting him while bowing. “nathaniel von ouros.” her lips press firmly together in a thin line as she stands straight once again.
“i’m sorry... i just wanted to get some fresh air and...” she trails off for a moment as she glances around, her gaze eventually returning to the male in front of her. “i somehow ended up here.” it’s not entirely a lie, however, it’s not the full truth either and it’s clearly written all over her face as she speaks.

...
he could wait for her to come out, but he’d rather be certain, and considering he isn’t in the best shape himself, it’s probably better he gets tended to sooner rather than later as well.
he opens the door with his left hand, his right bloodied from covering the wound on his side, and sure enough, there are two women inside: feng wu, and who he can only assume is the other healer or shopkeeper.
“feng wu,” he sighs in relief. he realizes then that she looked like she was concentrating on something he probably just interrupted. “sorry,” he apologizes quickly, and adds, “i’m okay,” just in case she was worried about him too.
the entire time, from the moment she had left finnian with the bandits up until now, she couldn’t help but grow even more worried for the male. he had gotten into this whole mess because of her so naturally the guilt within continued to grow with each passing second.
even as she attempts to concentrate on her own wound, feng wu’s thoughts switch back and forth between her wound and finnian, the older woman taking notice of this and growing worried for her as she watches on. knowing feng wu, she didn’t want to burden the older lady with such matters, despite knowing as well that she was nowhere nearly as skilled as the other to really take on such a task.
only one of the two had heard the sound of finnian’s voice coming from the front of the shop, that being the older lady, though the moment that the door to the room opens feng wu’s eyes quickly open up. there’s a brief moment of fear in her eyes, the thought momentarily crossing her mind that something had happened to him and it was one of the bandits, however, the moment she looks up and sees who it is, she lets out a small breath of relief for multiple reasons. the main one being that he was still alive.
“feng wu, who is this?” the lady speaks cautiously, stepping closer to her as if she means to protect feng wu from the ‘stranger’ standing in front of them. slowly standing up and placing a hand on the older lady’s shoulder, feng wu speaks slowly and ignores the pain. “elora, he’s a friend. he saved me.” she speaks in a gentle tone, showing the woman that it’s okay. “can you grab that cloth over there and help me wrap this, i need to tend to his wounds.” she gives a warm smile to the woman.
feng wu had managed to get her own wound tended to for the most part, at least enough to focus on helping finnian and worry about herself afterwards. she waits for the lady to help her before watching as the other retreated out of the room, muttering something under her breath about not trusting finnian.
feng wu hears the comment and sighs softly, shaking her head slightly before she returns her attention to finnian, the expression on her face clearly showing the guilt and concern towards him even as she looks over his wounds. “come sit down, i’ll help tend to your wounds...” as she says this, feng wu gently grabs his wrist and leads him over to one of the wooden crates in the room, gently pushing him down before turning her attention to the large area where there’s ingredients and herbs laid out neatly.
she begins to work, mixing together each herb skillfully, though not once has that guilt let up even after hearing him say that he was okay. “i’m sorry, finnian....” she faintly says this once she’s finished, walking over towards him and setting two small bowls next to him before walking back over to get some water in yet another bowl, grabbing a small cloth then returning to him soon after.
she can’t look him in the eye, how could she when this was all her fault? instead she focuses on the task at hand, handing him both small bowls. “drink these first and i’ll clean your wounds. one will help numb the pain, the other will help with the healing process.” she states in a low tone, almost whispering at this point. feng wu would never be able to really forgive herself for allowing someone like finnian to become injured just because she had refused her knight’s words and forced him to stay behind.

so, we’re not even going to talk about how trash i am with being late on things (more so plotting than anything else), though in my defense work has been killing me the past couple of weeks so my mind hasn’t even been focused on anything rather than coming home and sleeping... sdkfjlsdkjf BUT i have a 3 day weekend this week so i’m going to be around today, tomorrow and monday which means all 3 days are going to be for plotting/replying to threads and all.
with that being said, since there’s an event going on, if anyone would like to plot for that feel free to like this post and i’ll slide into your dm’s! feng wu will be pretty much roaming around enjoying the festivities so it won’t be hard to really find her. though, keep in mind that she just recently encountered some bandits so she’s still a little shaken up by that (actually sort of jumpy) so if any sort of ‘strangers’ approach her she’ll probably excuse herself and rush away. just call it a new trauma of hers now since the whole incident happened... lol
other than that, she’ll be pretty much her usual self, smiling and doing a little bit of shopping for anything that catches her eye.

❧ 𝒢𝒽𝑜𝓈𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝒴𝑜𝓊
with both FINNIAN and the BANDIT injured, the BANDIT with 5 HP and FINNIAN with 14 HP, and FENG WU having run to safety, the fight appears to be nearing its conclusion. both of the men are still for a moment, recovering, when FINNIAN strikes. he ATTACKS SUCCESSFULLY, doing 10 DAMAGE and killing the BANDIT.
as such, FINNIAN and FENG WU have defeated ALL ENEMIES, making them the WINNERS of this OFFICIAL BATTLE.
in doing so, FENG WU has earned a 6 STAT LEVEL UP, bringing her to LEVEL 2, and FINNIAN has received a 3 STAT LEVEL UP, bringing him to LEVEL 6. remember: you may only add one point to each stat, and two of those stats must be the strong stats listed on your application. please link this post as proof of your level up on the stat tracker portion of your status page. well done! it is now FENG WU’s turn, and you are free to continue this thread as usual for as long as you’d like.
despite her wanting to stay, to make sure that she’s at least there for finnian so that she can tend to his wounds, she knows well enough that she needs to make sure her own wound is taken care of properly before she can even begin to really think of the ones that he’s sustained during the fight.
feng wu only glances back for a brief moment before she turns the corner and makes her way down the street, blood dripping from her fresh wound and leaving a small trail behind her without fully realizing. all she’s thinking of in that moment is getting to the small shop just a few blocks away. being someone from this area, feng wu knew literally every shop owner and even the civilians as well, though it also was thanks to her mother for taking her along during visits to the citizens when they would get sick or injured.
only once she’s reached the familiar shop does she enter without hesitation, still holding onto her wound and thankful that no customers were even inside. she didn’t want to cause any sort of alarm to others, knowing very well that they would allow word to get back to her father and in the end she would be ‘locked up’ in her room unless she agreed to always take her personal knight with her.
“feng wu, what happened?!” the shop owner quickly makes her way around to her, the look of shock and horror evident on her face as her gaze lingers on the fresh wound. “it’s nothing bad.” feng wu replies before jotting down a small list of ingredients. “i need you go get these for me as fast as you can.” she then hands the list to the older female before making her way into the back of the shop.
“isn’t this a little too much for your wound though?!” feng wu hears the other calling out to her, fumbling around with retrieving everything on the list that she had given the other. “it’s not all for me!” she shouts back, using her only free hand to begin setting up the large work area, preparing to make the necessary medications needed.
even though feng wu knows that she’s injured, hers was nowhere near as bad as finnian’s had been. for her own wound, with a small amount of healing magic and a small dosage of medicine she could easily heal within at least thirty minutes, though for the male she wasn’t entirely skilled enough to just rely on her magic alone.
moments later the shop owner appears in the back room with the ingredients, laying them out for feng wu. “since i’m working with only one hand right now, i need you to follow my instructions carefully on just this one. i can handle the rest once i’ve taken it.” feng wu tells the female, stepping to the side as she begins to instruct her on what to do. only when the small concoction is finished does she sigh in relieve, flinching slightly at the pain, before she lifts the small bowl and lifts it to her lips. she takes every last drop before setting the bowl back down, sitting down slowly and closing her eyes as she then begins to concentrate.

❧ 𝒢𝒽𝑜𝓈𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝒴𝑜𝓊
FINNIAN’S attack STRIKES true, doing 10 DAMAGE to the BANDIT. the BANDIT, now with 10 HP, staggers backwards, and FINNIAN is quick enough to ATTACK AGAIN. his attack once again HITS for another 10 DAMAGE, bringing the BANDIT’S HP to 0.
the enemy FINNIAN faced off against slumps to the ground, dead.
there is still one remaining BANDIT, however. now that his friend has been dealt with, he finally rises to his feet despite having only 5 HP, clutching the wound in his stomach with one hand and his IRON AXE with the other.
“you thought i would go down that easily?” he manages gruffly. instead of FINNIAN, however, he turns his attention to FENG WU.
“we should’ve just killed you to start with,” he says, and ATTACKS her for 11 DAMAGE, leaving FENG WU with 9 HP. FINNIAN, meanwhile, remains at 19 HP.
what will FENG WU do? (suggestion: run)
it’s the shock of the entire situation that has her frozen in place, from the sudden appearance of finnian, to the bandits that had chased her down to where they’re at now, and now the bloody scene taking place in front of her. it was all the last thing she had even expected when leaving the house earlier, when she had told her personal knight that she would be fine on her own.
this wasn’t what was supposed to even happen. feng wu was only supposed to come and buy some ingredients for supper then head back home soon after, though it seemed as if fate had other plans for her and she couldn’t help but wonder if she should have just stayed home.
the guilt building up inside of her as she watches the fight in front of her take place only has her fidgeting in place, frantically trying to figure out some sort of solution to resolve this whole matter before things get too out of hand. however, the moment she even comes to some sort of conclusion, her eyes widen even more the moment that she sees finnian being attacked, watching as the male is injured and a loud gasp escapes from her at the sight.
feng wu watches as the bandit is eventually killed, quickly covering her eyes with her now trembling hands. it’s true that she had seen situations such as this in the past, however, she wasn’t one who really ‘enjoyed’ seeing anyone hurt, bandit or not. maybe that’s why she sometimes found herself in such situations, the reasoning behind why her father had eventually come to the conclusion to hire a personal knight to keep her safe, seeing as she refused to even pick up a weapon.
it’s because she’s so lost in her own thoughts that she doesn’t fully realize the situation playing out in front of her, or more so has forgotten briefly about the first bandit that finnian had previously injured.
only when she hears the male’s voice does she quickly look in the bandits direction, though she’s not nearly quick enough to dodge his attack and soon feels the blade from the iron axe making contact with her side, screaming out in pain as she stumbles back and holds onto the freshly made wound.
there really was nothing that she could do here, especially now that she had just gained her own injury, and despite wanting to do her best to help finnian in some way, she realizes that she’s only in the way. before she can even think of anything else to do, she decides that the best thing for her to do in this situation is to get out of there before it’s too late. seeing how skilled finnian was with his sword, feng wu can only hope that he’ll be alright. that he’ll manage to survive and hopefully come find her afterwards so she can help with his wounds, and with that thought in mind she begins to run, or rather stumble towards the opening she had previously come through.
‘please stay alive, finnian!’ she thinks to herself as she rushes out to find a safer place to hide.
