honestly a lot of kara’s odd turns of phrases and weird things that she sometimes says can be explained away pretty easily if the person in question becomes aware that English is not even Kara’s second language sometimes idioms don’t get translated properly or you scramble for the word or you dont remember what expression goes with which language like kara telling someone “english is not my first language” is easier than saying “i’m an alien”

like most people she spends time with knows she’s adopted–it’s not even a lie. English is probably her what, 18th language?????? who even knows. like my dad will be so close to getting it, but missing (ie the pan calling the other pan black) so if that is something she does in regular conversation (and not just supergirl related things) then it would make sense that it isn’t weird turns of phrases that would give her away
