The Sage had seeked this very body of water for peace. In there area of her Temple, she could be soothed and fears momentarily set to ease. It wasn’t a settlement of peace, but until things could be worked out for the better, this was just fine. Besides, the deeper water made her feel like nothing else existed in the world but her. A satisfying loneliness.

However, even in the depths, her fins detected the presence of someone, how the water rippled gently from afar. Hesitantly, she allowed her eyes to open and view the rippled sky above, slightly darkened by her depth in the liquid cocoon. …Who was disturbing her up there?

Smoothly and cautiously, she swam up, peering through the top of the water to the person in the shallow area of the water. He seemed a little sulky and… The Zoran’s head tilted. Was it just her or did he look incredibly familiar?

��It had to just be her.

The male didn’t seem very threatening, at the least, so Ruto made up her mind. Ducking under for ease of swimming, she made the way to the other, slowly rising up out of the water as she lost her depth. At a fair distance, the princess stopped, watching him curiously a moment.

“…Excuse me, sir, but … Are you in need of any help?”

    `` aa... a little, actually. any idea on         how to breathe underwater? or         maybe where to find this pearl         in the ‘deepest waters’?

  his fingers trailed through the silken   waters, looking at her curiously. he   assumed, due to her not being hylian   or gerudo, and her being in the water,   she must be a water breathing race.   though, zoras were extinct, weren’t they?   perhaps she was a new breed of water breather.

   “There is a great fairy in the dessert so I heard.     But she shows herself rarely.”

Almost never, but some Gerudo do claim to have seen her eventually. He’s not sure which is the truth but he’s certain  that someone must have seen her.

    `` i have oft heard that, but...         the gerudo i usually talk to         have not mentioned her.

  “Does it fascinate you so?    Personally I don’t see the point     of such creatures.”

the sorcerer merely looks on, perhaps to the sky if there are any more faeries that need to be caught before massive chaos can be brought upon the village. Faeries were destructive right?

Wrong book. 

    `` a... fairy? aren’t these extinct?

  wonderment was across his face,   the young man letting the fairy flutter   off into the sky. waving ‘ goodbye ‘   like a small child, the supposed new,   fated, hero would turn to look at the   bastard prince of the country that   wanted his supposed fairy tale power.

    `` yea... you don’t see fairies         in the gerudo desert... ‘s nice.

   “I… I… don’t have a name. A proper name    I mean… usually the last person who talked to    me kept calling me bastard…”

Which was the king, oh poor king where are you now.  Your son needs guidance no matter how much you wish he did not exist. 

   “I… usually don’t talk to people at all.     So there was no point in a name…”

  link would have responded...   if it were not for the stray fairy   fluttering nearby. where it came   from was a mystery, but it seemed   to be as fascinated with link as   he was with it. his responses   ceased, eyes alight with wonder.   carefully, the creature fluttered   about his body until settling in his   cupped hands; following his delicate   ‘bouncing’ of the little thing.

    `` what... is this...?

  fairies were thought to be extinct   by link, as they were not found in   the desert. to see one was... astounding.

shameless fanfic plug but. if you like this link and the fanfic he’s from ( i do no justice half the time i swear ) you’ll love this one and its sequel from a different author ( who is also not me )! set in a modern au these are darker, grittier, yet encompass all we love about a zelda story in two fanfictions, not to mention characters from almost every game show up in one universal setting! i hope anyone who reads enjoys these as much as i.

The bastard sighs a sigh of relief. Good than that the boy is safe from dehydration for now as he glances briefly at the crowd that semi formed. Without looking at the boy and hoping he would not see. He casts a illusion on top of his face of the scariest non human face he could imagine.

The hylians screamed in fright as he dismisses the illusion quickly and turns to face the man again. 

  “It is alright. You are the first person I talked to in     twelve years. Please… I am as unhylian as they come.”

He had run away like a chicken after the skirmish with the bandits and the Gerudo… 

  “I… patrol the borders of all Hyrule. If you need any help    getting to one spot… I can teleport you there.”

    `` that’s very generous of you..!

  link’s chin and lips shone with the   liquid that rushed down them, remnants   of the water the man had given him.   after a moment, he wiped it away;   leaving behind tanned chin and   chapped lips. having not heard   the hylians’ screams, the young   man thought for a moment.

    `` what’s your name? mine         is link. link... uknir.

  a shameful, dark flush scattered   across soft cheeks at the mention   of a surname his lordship had   forced upon him. no one wanted   uknir. uknir meant broken.

  link, from the gerudo desert,   had never seen a creature of   the forest - alive, that is. a few   rabbits or squirrel that were   caught and brought back after   raids was the only forest creatures   link had seen. not a skull child.   though the light of wonder and   amazement lit up his azure eyes,   his voice holding curiosity - not confusion.

The bastard simply goes nearer, almost to a whisper as he leans closer to the younger man. His fate rather expressionless. 

   “Your Gerudo, aren’t you. The last gerudo I helped did the same thing for days ago after I stopped them from stealing. Don’t worry, none of them got hurt.” 

It was all said in a whisper as he leans back and summons more water from the air. Gathering a few stares from the common folks. 

  “It is all I can do for now. Here drink more.”

    `` yes. i am. aa.. thank you.

  he recognised link as gerudo -   not a tanned hylian with an   extremely eccentric attitude.   not to mention he promised   that his brethren were not hurt?   this man was in link’s good books -   hylian or not. obeying for now,   the young man drank a bit more.

    `` thank you, sir... sorry for         snapping out like that...         it’s just... kind of hard to         trust hylians for me.
