Ulrich was running. He probably should have been studying, but he found that physical exertion was much better suited to clearing his head. He slowed to a stop, breathing heavily, as he saw William walk over-- he couldn't help but frown at him. "Oh. William," he said by way of pointedly unenthusiastic greeting. "D'you want something?"

"You don't sound too sure about that," he said, tilting his head with a frown. "Did you two have a lover's quarrel?" He was being teasing, until he reconsidered and straightened out again, tucking his hands away in his jacket pockets. "Or something more serious?"
“Oh, I’m just fine. And Jer—”
Her giddy smile quickly twitched into a slight pout.
“Ah…h-he’s fine, I’m sure.”

"Okay. Sounds good." He seemed relieved, if only slightly. "I'm holding you to that, Aelita. So what'd you get for Jeremie?" He asked, somewhat curious. "You're staying with him for the holidays, right?" And he was going to go back home. What a pain.
“Man, did you come to the wrong person…” Aelita sighed, scratching her head nervously. “Truth is, I’m in the same boat as you right now. The only person I managed to get something for is Jeremie.” Maybe she was thoughtful; but sometimes Aelita wondered if that made buying gifts easier or more difficult.
“Tell you what— why don’t we go Christmas shopping together? Between the two of us, I’m sure we can come up with something.”

He squinted at his friend, thoughtful for a moment. "Jeremie, I'm not stupid," he said, crossing his arms and standing up. "Something happened, so what is it? XANA got to you?" He'd been busy with school and sports and absentminded distraction as of late, but the fact that he wasn't informed until now was still a little grating. And worrisome. "Tell me so we can fix it."
Similarly, Ulrich was bad at picking up on emotions. He did intend to stay though— he settled down on Jeremie’s bed, hunched over a bit and resting his head on his hands before looking over again. “I don’t suppose that means I have anything to do, does it? Jeremie? …Maybe I’ll just study in here, I guess. I’ll try not to bother you.”

"Christmas," he blurted out, feeling more than a little dumb. "Every year, I never know what to get anyone. I think I've got Odd covered, but presents for Jeremie and you and Yumi are total mysteries." He wasn't exactly planning on getting anything for William, though. "Any ideas, Princess?"
“Oh, nothing, just.” He paused, rubbing at his neck a bit. “Hey, Aelita, you’re probably the most thoughtful and considerate person I know. Do you think you could help me out with something a little?” He looked like he was sort of uncomfortable asking, almost wincing.

"Hey, Princess," he responded, more or less in a good mood. Aelita's cheeriness tended to be a little infectious, anyway. "Fine, just a little tired. How about you? How's Jeremie doing?"

“Hi, Ulrich!” she greeted, with a warm smile on her face. “How are you?”

Ulrich hesitated a moment, lost in thought— he’d just come back from a short run to clear his head before deciding to stop in. “Er, nothing much at all, actually,” he said, casually glancing over Jeremie’s shoulder at the screen. “What’re you up to?”

"Hey, Odd," Ulrich started, nodding his head. "I hope you're not busy being a pain to someone right now. I was thinking we could go do something?"

“Hey Ulrich!” Odd greeted the brunette with a grin and wave.

“Hey,” Jeremie greeted him, glancing up from his computer screen for a moment, though still seeming distracted. “What’s up?"
