2024 is a terrible year to be a henchman. The word "minion" is barely usable and you can't even say "goon" anymore.

Danganronpa is funny because at its core it's a mystery game with some really compelling cases, but a lot of the time you lose because you suck at a snowboarding minigame or some shit.

ask and you shall receive: my infodump
as I said before, I referenced the classpect-navelgazing blog by Arcturus for info on the classpects, since they analyze them based on characters' actions throughout Homestuck, and not things that are just said by what could be an unreliable narrator (meaning no gender-locked classes, etc.) so when I mention information about each class and aspect, that's mainly where I'm getting it from
Kiibo was by far the easiest to assign, being the Ultimate Hope-bot that he is. I know that capital-H "Hope" doesn't necessarily mean the exact same thing in Homestuck as it does in Danganronpa, but I figured they were close enough that it would still work. the Heir is widely known for being the embodiment of their aspect, but Arcturus further puts it as "the Heir is being played by their Aspect," meaning they have a lot of power but not a lot of control, basically. and I think that very much describes Kiibo, particularly when he's being controlled (or at least influenced) by the hope-hungry audience
Shuichi - Pages have great intuition and also heaps of guilt. they're often underestimated, and have a gradual, subtle building of power, which I think fits with how Kaito views Shuichi's potential. Light is conflated in Homestuck itself with both knowledge and luck*, but Arcturus also identifies it as narrative relevance - fitting for someone who was handed the baton of Protagonist. I'm not sure that the "will happily talk someone’s ear off" detail is super accurate to Shuichi, but the aspects of research and discovery definitely are *I know that Luck is like, a Thing in Danganronpa, but it isn't so much in V3, and I don't think it's particularly relevant here?
Korekiyo is GNC AF and would totally rock the Witch dress has an obligation to his Sister that sort of defines his title here. Blood is relationships/connections/obligation, and Witches are "sponsored by their aspect" in an antagonistic and traumatic way. Arcturus also describes Blood players as "fucking terrible liars," which I think fits well with his whole "well maybe you can prove I killed Tenko but you can't prove I killed Angie" gimmick
Tsumugi is not a regular player in this game, and so she gets the exceptional class: the Bard, the stagehand, the Facilitator of the narrative, "And when the story doesn’t need them, they are no one of consequence." arguably, Tsumugi is trying way too hard at being an "invisible stagehand," leaning so far into the "plain" shtick it's painful, but she still succeeds for a long while. and while she is the "mastermind" in a sense, she lacks the agency of someone like Junko. just as Gamzee was practically stripped of all agency after Hivebent, Tsumugi is working for Team Danganronpa, is literally working for the narrative. as for her aspect - admittedly, Time was just kind of the one leftover that I didn't think was the obvious perfect fit or even second choice for anyone. so sure. Tsumugi gets Time. insert joke about con crunch?
Kaito strikes me as having a very fixed worldview, and Seers see everything in the world as being their aspect. I also personally think that Rose, Terezi, and Kankri all act as a certain type of leader that Kaito fits the mold of very well. the aspect of Heart is identity and self. Heart players perform different identities depending on what's needed in the situation. and while none of those identities are any more or less real than the others, they still "struggle with feeling duplicitous or even being a liar." I'm a strong believer in the statement that Kaito is just as much of a liar as Kokichi is, he's just a different type. no I will not elaborate right now, that's a whole nother essay
Miu certainly acts royal enough to be a Prince. Arcturus says that Princes have "Big egos and big self-esteem issues simultaneously." Miu has (justified! very justified!) confidence in her own work, but still needs validation from others. Rage is described as impulse, gloriously smashing the system without planning for what comes afterwards. and Arcturus's post on Rage definitely reads as matching Miu's attitude. coincidentally, she shares a title with Kurloz, but I can't really find any similarities between them beyond that (aside from maybe "being into freaky shit" but that's honestly not much)
Himiko, who finds many things to be too tiresome or a pain, definitely seems to have the "gifted kid burnout" of Mages. she also has an enthusiastic interest in her magic and will show it off from time to time, but refuses to explain or teach it to others (see, I told you I didn't pick this class just because she calls herself a mage!) Void players are defined by an obsession, one singular, clear, but nearly-insurmountable obstacle in their way, and for Himiko I think that's her malaise and apathy, which she does overcome towards the end of the story, becoming much stronger. (except like, while her mental attitude is a big part of that obstacle, this girl is definitely autistic and also has some sort of chronic pain condition which she could benefit from medical help for. that's all headcanon of course but like. come on)
Tenko - Maid is one of the classes that I struggled to assign to anybody, but when you combine it with her aspect, Breath (freedom), I think she fits the description of having an abundance of it (she does what she wants even if that includes throwing someone across the room) that she doles out to others (for example, her attempts to inspire Himiko). Breath players like to make up their own goals and have a tendency to be "checked out" of the game itself ("game" here referring to Sburb, not the killing game) and Tenko very much seems to be on her own wavelength all the time
Kokichi, surface level, fits the "crime gremlin" energy of a Rogue, but beyond that also fits the descriptors of clever, determined, and resentful. I think he is, as Arcturus says, "vital to unit cohesion," albeit in an unorthodox and irritating way. he also has the Mind skepticism, the philosophy that all these classes and aspects really don't matter, at least not when compared to decisions, actions and consequences- as shown in how he never really buys in to the killing game (but pretends to in order to gain information and influence)
Maki, as a Knight, is a guardian and protector. she works hard and represses/compartmentalizes her emotions. in Arcturus's post, this sentence particularly caught my eye: "This shit comes naturally to them, as if they have been moulded their entire life to this specific type of work." that... pretty literally describes Maki as an assassin. meanwhile, Doom is inevitability and nihilism. "They more than anyone see the code of the matrix and know precisely how fucked the situation is." I think that fits with Maki's assertion to Shuichi that her job, while unsavory, is needed, and that if you don't want there to be assassins, you can't just go after the assassins, you have to "reduce the complications" (reading between the lines, go after the system) that makes assassins necessary
Angie is probably the character I have the weakest grasp on, and so her class and aspect were admittedly kinda leftovers. she's not as mean or "selfishly greedy" as Thieves typically are, but she might be selfish in a way that's disguised as extreme selflessness? (that's a stretch but bear with me.) she also isn't affluent in the way that Life players typically are, but she does have the "dubious privilege" (in her case, connection to her god) and the "trouble relating to the people around them." she also would have done the Lifey thing of bringing someone back from the dead if she had been able to complete the ritual (even though it likely would have been some sort of trick by Team DR rather than an actual resurrection). she coincidentally ended up with the same title as Meenah, but they actually have a surprising amount in common: rounding up a group of people to potentially sacrifice them to the big bad. (and also they're both written in a way that's kinda racist.) that's not a lot, but it's a surprising amount given that they seem like they have opposite personalities
Gonta, finally, fits the Sylph descriptors of determination, decisive action, and genuine joy and fulfillment from helping others, which builds strong bonds. and Arcturus describes Space as "a very specific duality: being adept and skilled at manipulation of the physical while being aggrieved and oppressed by something very not physical. [...] when something falls within the borders of a Space player’s influence, they are ready and raring to take direct, physical action. But if something is even a few inches beyond their domain, it’s impossible for them to touch." Gonta is very good with entomology and is impressively physically strong, but struggles both with keeping up with the others during class trials and with behaving as the ideal gentleman like he wants to. he coincidentally shares a title with Kanaya, and the two share the traits of being enthusiastically supportive and willing to take drastic measures when drastic times arrive
also, you didn't ask about this, but I figure as long as I'm explaining things, I should explain how I picked the colors for the sprites. I assigned each student a "roommate" based on how the dorms are arranged, so the person whose room is vertically next to yours is your roommate. then each of the first four dead students got prototyped into their roommate's kernelsprite, which determined their color. Rantaro is Kaito's (which also explains the Snoopy plushie), Kaede is Himiko's (which is how she ended up still being pink, sort of a happy coincidence), Ryoma is Kokichi's, and Kirumi is Maki's. thinking back on it, I probably could have arranged them in a way that's more fitting to them each acting as "guides" for a specific person (Kaede guiding Shuichi, for example), but for some reason it felt more correct to do it arbitrarily, like this? not sure why
feastings sprite edits of the drv3 crew. transparent version and titles under the cut
Rantaro, Kaede, Ryoma, and Kirumi all got prototyped because that's the best way I could figure out how to include them without getting fanmade classes and aspects involved (I think those are really cool, just not what I wanted for this particular thing)
also I referenced the blog classpect-navelgazing while assigning these, cuz that style of analysis really made sense to me. I highly recommend reading through it if you haven't already
Kiibo: Heir of Hope
Shuichi: Page of Light (yes I gave him tights)
Kirumi: [prototyped with a spider (because of course)]
Korekiyo: Witch of Blood
Tsumugi: Bard of Time (yes I gave her an outfit that is slightly less complete horseshit than the canon one)
Kaede: [prototyped with a mantis (presumably several of Gonta's bugs escaped and some of them got into the kernelsprites)]
Kaito: Seer of Heart
Ryoma: [prototyped with his cat]
Miu: Prince of Rage
Rantaro: [prototyped with Kaito's NASA-themed Snoopy plushie]
Himiko: Mage of Void (no I did not make her a Mage solely because of the name, but it was for sure a factor)
Tenko: Maid of Breath
Kokichi: Rogue of Mind
Maki: Knight of Doom
Angie: Thief of Life (wow that title sounds so brutal out of context)
Gonta: Sylph of Space
#when I call Himiko autistic I want you to know I am saying that as an autistic person#if that wasn't obvious already#danganronpa spoilers#classpecting#Kokichi is my favorite but he ended up being one of the ones I had the least to say about
