At last...
————————⁘•⁘————————
The final course has been finished, and at last you may rise. Where you go now is up to you - you might stay a while longer to drink and smoke, you might make a quick exit following some tense interactions, or you may do some other thing that the author cannot predict.
But at last, you are no longer trapped in this bizarre seating arrangement, and we can only hope that whatever happened between you and your partner will not interfere with any duties you may have outside this place...
————————⁘•⁘————————
OOC Notes:
Thank you very much for coming and interacting! The event is now officially over.
While there will be no more event posts, if you and your partner would like to finish out your thread beyond this time you are perfectly welcome to.
It's up to you and your partner whether you want the interactions of this event to impact your characters' relationship in the main timeline. This sits outside of most narratives, at least for me, so do what you want there.
The ask box for this account will remain open in case you'd like to leave feedback or suggestions about the event, or if there are any relevant questions.

Another one of these strange faceless servants comes forward, this one stockier and stronger-looking than the last. The voice is more forceful and intimidating now, with a note of some strange quality a normal man cannot identify...

Oh. So that's your conversational partner. Yeah, this might get weird. You might try to maintain some civility, you might simply remain deeply cold to each other, or perhaps your potentially mutual dislike of your partner will prove to be too strong to resist, resulting in some form of argument.
Please use this thread to converse - or argue - with your partner. If you're stuck, we'd recommend starting with your reaction to realising who your partner is.
————————⁘•⁘————————
OOC Considerations:
Please converse with your partner in this thread. Do not post in other specific pairing threads you are not tagged in - if you would like to address someone else (or stare pleadingly at a friend for help), you can use the general table thread.
While our characters will be aware of appropriate manners in this situation, it's up to you whether or not they maintain civility given their present circumstances. Arguments, tension and awkwardness are all encouraged, just don't get too disruptive like setting the place on fire or something.
Don't take in-character actions personally. We're literally sitting people who hate each other together for the explicit purpose of observing the resulting carnage. Rudeness in-character does not reflect out-of-character feelings.
As I'm sure we're all aware, we are humans with lives, and it's okay if you can't respond immediately to everything. So long as there is some amount of conversation we can call it a success.
These threads can run for as long as you want to keep them running. While officially the event lasts for 4 weeks, if you have a good thread going on you are absolutely welcome to continue it past that time.
If your partner has disappeared (or not appeared to begin with), feel free to communicate with others through the general table thread. Conversations had here are considered separate to the (in-character) private ones in the designated threads.
Enjoy!

Indeed, the faceless footman returns to usher them back into their seats, seeming entirely unaffected by the fact one of their guests is bleeding with no apparent cause.
A Faceless Footman: Messieurs, kindly do remain seated, it is most impolite... The Host may be offended...

If the footmen had such a thing as expressions, then the one who walks over with a handkerchief would likely bear one of surprise. After all, there have yet to be physical altercations, so how is one bleeding?
Nonetheless, the footman makes an unsuccessful attempt to wipe off the substance, the deep red colour that should be familiar to soldiers staining the immaculate white of the cloth.

Three rather burly footmen approach the commotion.
A̷ ̷F̷a̶c̴e̶l̶e̸s̶s̷ ̷F̶o̴o̶t̷m̵a̴n̶ ̵:̸ Now, now, Monsieur, kindly refrain from damaging our host's furnishings...
A̷ ̷F̷a̶c̴e̶l̶e̸s̶s̷ ̷F̶o̴o̶t̷m̵a̴n̶ ̵:̸ Our host would be... Most displeased.
A̷ ̷F̷a̶c̴e̶l̶e̸s̶s̷ ̷F̶o̴o̶t̷m̵a̴n̶ ̵:̸ Why doesn't Monsieur sit back down and perhaps have some more wine to calm the soul?
They will usher Murat back into his seat not quite forcefully but not gently either.

A most interesting idea, Monsieur de Talleyrand, but you are not the only one who has thought of the possibility of intrigue...
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 has also planned for this. As such, if the two attempt to leave the table, they will be found quickly by the faceless footmen and returned with hushed insistence and concern to their places. It will not be so simple.
The windows... It may be dark outside, but if one looks closely, they might find that each time they look away and then back at the window, the scene outside will have changed. Only a little, but enough... But surely that must just be him imagining things?

You look across the table...
————————⁘•⁘————————
Well, it's hardly a comfortable arrangement. Tension strangles the air, sometimes seeming like it might snuff out the candles with how suffocating it is, and in all directions there appears to be some awkwardness, bickering or something else going on. This seating plan must've been devised by some manner of psychopath, presumably whatever or whoever the host is, intent on seeing the result of putting the most disagreeable pairings imaginable together.
You might spot a friend across the table, maybe stare at them longingly pretending they can offer any assistance, maybe address someone else nearby in passing. But don't neglect your partner, that would be bad manners, wouldn't it? Well, assuming you still have them by this point.
————————⁘•⁘————————
OOC Considerations:
Please converse with your partner in your designated thread. Use this thread to address anyone else, this way the designated threads can stay between the two partners only. You can also use this thread to talk to others if your assigned partner is missing or unresponsive.
Don't take in-character actions personally. We're literally sitting people who hate each other together for the explicit purpose of observing the resulting carnage. Rudeness in-character does not reflect out-of-character feelings.

Si vous voulez passer à table...
————————⁘•⁘————————
You walk into a resplendent dining room, the long table piled high with food and decorations of the festive type, the surroundings also perfectly celebratory through the presence of pine branches on the mantlepieces. Somehow, they feature spots of golden light that adorn them plentifully.
But as you file in and prepare to sit down in places according to your ranks and titles, everyone notices that cards placed at each seat do not seem to agree with that classic arrangement. Instead, they demand a very different one, and once everyone has arranged themselves it might be noticed that this will make for an interesting dinner.
You are seated, the first course is served, and conversation may begin, but when you turn to make small talk with the one next to you, and then look around the table, you might notice a rather unsettling pattern...
And maybe more unsettlingly, no one can work out who, or what, the host is.
————————⁘•⁘————————
Some OOC Considerations:
Please converse with your partner in your designated thread.

As I'm sure we're all aware, we are humans with lives, and it's okay if you can't respond immediately to everything. So long as there is some amount of conversation we can call it a success. There will be some mid-event happenings to encourage interaction.
These threads can run for as long as you want to keep them running. While officially the event lasts for 4 weeks, if you have a good thread going on you are absolutely welcome to continue it past that time.
