I was there, and I remember...
47 posts
I was born here, in this place that would come to be called the Old West, but to my kind the land was ageless. It had no beginning, and no end, no boundary between Earth and Sky. Like the wind in the buffalo grass, we belonged here. We would always belong here. {Roleplay blog for Spirit, from Dreamworks' Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron} {I love crossovers and will RP with pretty much anyone} {I own nothing but my writing unless otherwise stated}

'And so I grew from colt to stallion, as wild and reckless as thunder over the land, racing with the eagle, soaring with the wind... Flying? There were times I believed I could.'

Spirit slowed to a walk when she took a step back, taking the short retreat as an indication that she wasn't an immediate danger. His ears flicked forward to catch her words as he came to a stop a reasonable distance in front of her, blowing questioningly. He did understand her, and her voice seemed... reassuring... but he wasn't to be easily convinced.

The stallion eyed the carrot with apparent interest, tilting his head with a quiet, surprised sound. Did two-leggeds usually carry food around with them? He shook his head with a snort, mulling that over- it would be convenient, he supposed. He whinnied and sniffed the air between them, lifting a hoof, then lowering it again, undecided.
"Whoa!" Romana holds up her hands taking a respectful step back so as not to appear a threat. "I’m not here to hurt you." She mutters, eyeing the horse with slight apprehension. Perhaps she had come a little too close to herd; but much like Spirit - she was curious. Horses were beautiful creatures, and she certainly had a soft spot for them. “I meant no offence.” She’s sure that the stallion can understand and the Time Lady smiles, still maintaining a safe distance, pulling a carrot from one of her bigger-on-the-inside pockets.

"A token of good faith?" She asks the stallion, holding up the vegetable for him to see. "I think you’ll like it. It’s full of beta-carotene and rich in vitamin A? Num num?" He really was a gorgeous creature, and she would give anything to give him a gentle pet - but she knew better. Stallions were proud and she had the sense that this one would take some winning over.

Spirit started when the girl suddenly ran up to him, shying a half step away from her before pausing, taking a moment to look closely. She was young- not more than a foal, if put into horse terms- so he couldn't be too harsh, and he wouldn't want to upset her, either. He let out a low nicker and, after just a hint of hesitation, allowed the child's petting, for the moment.

"Horsey!" Sophie giggled, running over to him. "Pretty!" She giggled, petting him.

Four two-leggeds entered Homeland

Spirit blinked, stomping a front hoof against the ground anxiously at the humans' presence. While he'd met kind humans in the past, he didn't much like the idea of them appearing so close to his herd without warning. Neighing, the Kiger stallion reared up, pumping his forelegs in the air briefly before landing with a snort and loping closer. His approach wasn't strictly an aggressive one, however, as his ears were, perhaps involuntarily, perked up with curiosity.

'I couldn't understand it. She treated this scrawny two-legged like one of our kind, prancing around him like a lovestruck yearling...'

Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) They say the mustang is the spirit of the West. Whether that west was won or lost in the end, you’ll have to decide for yourself. But the story I want to tell you is true. I was there, and I remember. I remember the sun, the sky, and the wind calling my name in a time when wild horses ran free. I’ll never forget the sound and the feeling of running together. The hoof beats were many, but our hearts beat as one.
