"A katana is used to take the life of your opponent, and that is it. It is a simple and clear existence. Without any hesitation, all movements depend on the user. I want to become like that." Independent Roleplay blog for Saitou Hajime from Hakuouki.

Hajime’s Moving Castle Verse (V2)

Backstory:
Hajime was born into a prominent noble family. He never quite fell into favour with his parents, being disinterested in their plans for his future and unwilling to "correct" his left handedness (seen as impolite and an ill omen). However, the discovery that he had a strong leaning towards magic gave Hajime a sense of purpose that quickly consumed him. His parents, believing his abilities would garner them favour with the kingdom and ascertain a lucrative military-political position, allowed him to leave home to study magical arts. During the course of his training, Hajime found himself locked in a bitter rivalry with another young man. That rivalry culminated in an incident that forever changed how Hajime viewed magic and himself.
Shutting off what remained of his heart, Hajime exiled himself in an odd moving castle.
Current day: As the call to war rises, Hajime seeks to distance himself even further from fellow magic users. He ignores the summons sent his away, as he does not believe the war to be right, and refuses to do anything that goes against his beliefs ever again. However, he secretly ventures onto the field of battle to remove the danger of twisted, inhuman mages from the world, seeing himself now as little more than a blade of justice.
Powers: While in command of numerous spells, Hajime mainly uses ice and blade magic, summoning and forging weapons. He also has the ability to change into an inhuman form (oni) in order to double his strength, but it is slowly eating away his sanity and could consume him completely if unchecked.
Heart: Hajime's heart lies within Kijinmaru, a fire demon that powers his castle and can be used as the core for a katana when desperation calls for it.

@uncloudedblade
from here: [x]
〘楓〙
Surprise flits onto her face but stays covered by her mask. The white tree emits a soft, ethereal light to show it’s revived state. It’s one she’s seen often, since she made it a task for herself to restore said trees. Even here, in the depths where no life was supposed to be found.
His reply isn’t something she usually hears from others. Most revenants she met eagerly take what they need, sometimes with a thanks or a stuttering question of how she did that. Her eyes can see the black veins that climb up near his neck, and with his strained voice–she already knew the sound of a fellow revenant near frenzy.
She remembers Mia’s screams as she clawed at her own throat, frenzy taking over as her brother turned to ash. It was scary–a sound she feared more than any battle she was thrown into. When she had awoken, her body was pained with each movement as she followed Io towards the then dead tree–
It’s why she wants to help him, even if the man said otherwise.
“If you’re worried about me running out, or something else, I promise it’s alright…” She trails off, unsure of what else to say. Was he afraid she would double cross him? “I’m just passing through. I don’t need blood right now, but you look like you need some.”
She takes a small step towards him, hand outstretched with the glittering bead that reflected light from the dimming sky.
“You don’t look that well. If you don’t drink you might go into a frenzy soon.”
[✾] — Saitou is about to walk away when her voice stops him. He looks back towards the offered bead. The white light glimmers, flaring bright, dimming, flaring again. It illuminates the bead, highlighting the ruby within. His heart is racing. His muscles give a faint twitch, seeking the offered relief.
He keeps his arms firmly at his sides, resisting the pain slowly starting to scratch at his throat, the clawing at his mind. His gaze flicks to her face then back to the bead.
“I am in control,” he says in protest. Everything feels slow and too heavy. His breath, his voice, his movements. Like he’s trapped underwater.
A red fog is stretching over him and he knows it, he can feel his resolve is about to break. But he must not allow it. He must remain in control. He must find his own way. How can he ever hope to accomplish all he seeks if he cannot even control his own body and will.
“Save it fo—” His words catch in the harshness of his throat. His hand flies up, resting against his neck. A small cough tries to push out of his lips but he clenches his teeth against it.
He needs to move, but his body is starting to rebel against any semblance of control. He can feel a strange quiver in his knees. One that threatens to drop him to the ground. He’s underwater and he’s sinking.

@uncloudedblade sent: ❝ you look but you don’t observe. ❞
–〖 月 〗–
“My apologies, I tend to be…’easily distracted’, I suppose.” He bows his head slightly in response, keeping the same small smile on his lips. The streets of Kyoto were quiet at this time of night–the white haired men he had been tracking had ran away with the revisionist blades following suit. The only tell tale sign was the faint sound of hurried steps hitting the ground, and a blood trail that told them that they were on the right track.
“It has been awhile since I have been to Kyoto. The sights are rather marvelous, even at night.”
[✾] — Faint irritation scrapes at Saitou, but his face remains impassive. This is no time to get distracted by the sights around them.
“We cannot allow anyone to discover them,” he reminds, his quiet voice stern. Should anyone discover the truth about the rasetsu or the enemy Mikazuki was hunting down, the disaster that would inevitably follow would cost innocent blood.
Saitou examines the thinning trail. He increases the pace of his steps. Now is not the time for discussion. It is the time for action. He will search these streets for as long as it takes to find their enemies.

karasunobushi:
[ 鴉 ] - As the sun sank lower under the horizon a damp chill filled the air, as most people had already retired to the warm comfort of their homes. If only Miyoshi were so lucky to go inside and warm up with some nice sake, but instead his division had the lovely honour of doing the evening patrol.
Yet despite lack of enthusiasm the samurai was doing as he should, he stayed in formation behind his captain and looked around for any signs of unrest, even if he did look more casual doing it then the serious captain Saitou Hajime.
As he turned his head he caught something flash in the corner of his eye, it happened so fast that he wasn’t sure if he even saw anything, that is until he noted his captain’s hand tightening his grip on his sword. Miyoshi didn’t say anything as they continued along their designated route but remained on high alert none the less.
As they turned Saitou had stopped abruptly, almost causing Miyoshi to run into him. Looking past his captain’s shoulders he noted the men ahead of them wearing the familiar blue colour of the shinsengumi but as a low fit of laughter erupted from them it became clear something was up as Miyoshi grabbed the hilt of his sword.
“Saitou-san?”
But before he could get an answer from his captain the mens’ appearance changed right before their eyes, and before he could ask anything else they were already under attack. Miyoshi just barely drawing his blade in time to deflect one of the possessed men’s blows.
Are they even human? the samurai wondered as his balance faltered from the unnatural strength from his attacker’s blow.

Yells of pain filled his ears from from what he could only assume were from his comrades who weren’t as lucky to defend against their aggressors quick enough. Frustration quietly overcame him as he failed to counter an attack. What in the hell is going on?
[✾] — The rasetsu fell upon them swiftly. Saitou ducked below a frenzied swing, performing an iai strike. The blade sliced flesh, causing the crazed warrior to fall back. He took advantage of its faltering, springing forward to aim his blade at its heart. It recovered before his katana could sink into flesh. The point clanged against the metal of the rasetsu’s own sword, a painful clang rattling down Saitou’s arm and flaring into his jaw.
He leapt back, readied another strike. But the ratetsu swerved past him, throwing its self upon one of the men behind him instead. Miyoshi. The failing counter strike unfurled before Saitou’s eyes. He rushed forward, driving his sword into the rasetsu’s back, fleshing parting and heart severing.
It collapsed, gurgling blood.
Saitou’s intense gaze flicked up for a brief moment, meeting Miyoshi’s gaze. He nodded to him faintly.
“Aim for their hearts or sever their heads,” he called out, his voice loud and authoritative. All he could do was hope his men could hear him above the frenzy of battle and the insane cackling and screeching.
He hurried to help another one of the men. The rasetsu he slashed at jumped away from his blade, perching on the ledge of a high rooftop. Its eyes glowed, scanning the crowd of men, the blood pooling in the streets, the severed limbs. There was no telling where it would land, or how fast it would be.
“Chi…Chi….Chi.” The rasetsu hissed from above, the madness in its burning gaze deepening.
Saitou sheathed his sword and dropped into a low stance, preparing himself. All he could do was try to anticipate its movements.

I am willing to rewrite threads. Want to make our muses kiss for the first time but we’ve been there done that? Let’s do it again. Want to make your muse say this to my muse, but we’ve already been down that route? Do it again. I don’t care if we completely follow the same plot as before or we change bits and pieces of it. I really just enjoy writing with you!

"I'm killing them all."
[✾] — The sight before Saitou sickened him. When he and Yasutomi were assigned this infiltration mission, he hardly suspected something like this from those allied with Choshu. Seeing the innocent, crying out in fear and pain as they were summarily beaten into submission, and knowing a worse fate loomed ahead of them, Yasutomi’s words gave breath to the feelings pounding in Saitou’s jaw. He clenched his teeth and hands against the desire to rise from their current position and cut these honourless dogs down.
I follow the orders I believe to be right, he thought. That had been his guiding ideal through his life.
They had been ordered to simply return with information to determine when and how a raid should be conducted. Yet these people...it was likely they would not be here by the time the Shinsengumi mobilized. Saitou did not disagree with the orders. He knew they did not violate his ideals; he would never cast such doubt upon Kyokuchou and Fukuchou. It was clear no one knew exactly what kind of business had been conducted here.
But now that he knew...Now that he knew...
It took all of his will to fight against the growing urge within to discard orders and act. To be unhesitating and unflinching.
“We have orders,” Saitou said, pushing the words out calmly despite the torrent of his deliberations.

He knew he should move, that he should quietly quit the place and hurry back to headquarters. However, the captain found himself hesitating, his hand resting atop his sword. Squeezing the hilt.
