You’re All I See

Hello!!!!

Hello blog world! Obviously, if you’re reading this, you are really interested in our band and we thank you for that. This is the first time that we will do this, so I hope you’ll have fun reading :)

Okay. So. Let me tell you a story about our song “You’re All I See” (which you can stream on all streaming platforms btw (including YouTube *ehem*)) on how I came up with the idea and the lyrics, and the song in general. 

So, it was the summer of 2018, probably 1 in the morning? And I was still awake, knowing that I do have a class in the morning (teenagers right?). I was listening to Noel Gallagher’s 2nd solo album. I think that was Chasing Yesterday? Anyways, as I was listening, the song “You Know We Can’t Go Back” got stuck in my head and mind you, its 1 in the morning. What will I do with this song stuck in my head, I can’t sing it out loud because people are sleeping. Then this urge came that I need to do something about it. I took my guitar out, went to the bathroom, and tried to learn the song quietly. I was trying to learn the song by ear and it showed really how noob I am on earing guitar notes. Didn’t know that the song was on capo 2 so literally I was just doodling around my guitar in the middle of the fucking night. 

This is the actual guitar I wrote on. This guitar served me very well.

At this point, it’s now maybe 2 in the morning. Still trying to ear out the song. And then out of the blue, I played this riff and it sounded amazing. Obviously did not sound like the song that I was trying to learn, but it really sounded cool and I liked it. After a while playing it, I recorded it on my phone so I can remember it the next morning or the next time that I can write. But after I recorded that, I played it again and then hums and la’s came out of my mouth. After the hums, words came out of my mouth.

So in total, I think I wrote the song in about 30 minutes or less. It’s really a simple song, 4 chords, and if you read the lyrics, you can easily understand the meaning without looking for deeper thoughts or whatever. It’s just a guy thinking about something, but knows he won’t do the idea that he has in his mind, but then, this girl came in to his life and then suddenly, he had the energy and the guts to the ideas in his head because he has this inspiration now. The second verse, the guy just describes his night with this girl. The line “drinking, smoking, and laughing”, I got that words in my head for a while but I can’t really fit it in on the songs that I wrote. So when I was writing this song, I thought maybe this is the time to put this words in and it worked!!! That line probably is the most memorable line (and my favorite) of the song (apart from the chorus of course).

So this is 2018 right?? Just for closing, the first time we ever played this song was on June of 2018 at 8065 Bagnet Manila. Back then, UNDERCOVERS was still a 3 piece and it was out very first gig as a band so it really sound shitty I admit it.

Okay now it’s 2019. UNDERCOVERS was complete, personnel wise, sound wise, song wise, as I have written 20+ songs at that time, but of course, almost half of it was shit. 2019 was a really great year for us and also the year where we really felt that this band was going places. We played our first gig in a very long time in January of 2019, debuting new songs and the new UNDERCOVERS. If I can remember, we played You’re All I See as our opening song that night. Who would’ve thought that it would also be our first single right???

This was the very first as the 5 piece guys!!!

Okay so now, fast forward to June of 2019, we got the opportunity to record our very first single. I asked the band what song should we do, and it was unanimous. We decided to record You’re All I See as the very first single of UNDERCOVERS. Thanks to Sir Ron owner of Monopond Studio, he recorded our song for free!!! Get that guys?? FOR FREE!!! He really has a special place in our hearts and we will forever be grateful for him.
