           SHE'S OFF DUTY, but she hasn't taken off her uniform, not even her armor. there's a tense sort of restlessness to her frame, like at any given second, she's going to take off into a desperate spring. & she just might. she just might disappear without a trace, if only to save her the heartache (( nay, the TORMENT )) later.

                                                                        it's been years, now.                                                  but there's got to be a catch.                                                                 & she doesn't want to stay for it.

headcanon: DOUBTS OF A STRAY

              when kuvira was first taken in by suyin and her family, she was exceedingly skittish and very shy, often hiding from everyone and everything, even at times from suyin herself. after growing up in a household that was severely neglectful, being thrown out, and having to survive for a period of time on the streets, it made her heartbreakingly paranoid to attach herself to people. so even in a house that was eventually so full of children, kuvira always felt just a little detached. just a little out of place. but she was desperate to fit in, and so she overtaxed herself in terms of her studies, her metalbending, her dancing, her work, in order to prove herself worthy of being kept by this family.

              one habit that stuck with her from her childhood was not eating dinner with the family. suyin insisted, but the little kuvira ( practically starved up until then through her parent's neglect ) just couldn't handle it. there was always so much food, so much warmth and hospitality, but she literally couldn't understand why it was being given her, almost like it was just some sort of cruel TRICK, it was that overwhelming. so no matter how much su pleaded with her to eat with the family, kuvira couldn't do it, and never did. she always just got something simple from the kitchens, nothing too fancy, and just stalked away to her room to eat.

               these sentiments could only ever be soothed and comforted somewhat by the enthusiasm the metal clan twins treated her with. it was ultimately only through their companionship and love that kuvira began to feel more comfortable in the beifong family, and began to function normally in their family dynamics.
