☀️Pond Giant☀️

The world was quiet here. Not the silence of danger, not the breathless pause before a hunt, but something gentler. Still. Like the universe had finally remembered how to breathe.

Behind him, carved into the face of a moss-covered cliff, was the massive stone visage of an Angel. The features were weathered but unmistakable, eyes staring into nothing, or seeing all too much. Dean was not aware of it yet. Or maybe he had and just didn’t want to look.

He squinted at the water instead, watching a dragonfly skate across it. There was something almost holy about evenings like this. Like time folded in on itself and let him pretend he wasn’t carrying a war on his shoulders.

"I wish you were here," he murmured.

The breeze caught the words and took them across the pond. Dean rubbed his thumb over the handle of his fishing pole, jaw tight. He hadn’t said Cas’s name in weeks. Not out loud. Not since -

He cleared his throat.

Fishing helped. It slowed things down. Gave his hands something to do while his mind wandered. Let him believe, just for a moment, that there was something better coming. Something quieter. A future, maybe.

The pole jerked slightly. He reeled in, but it was just a snag. Nothing on the other end. Still, he smiled faintly.

Above him, the giant stone face of the Angel remained still, but in the sunlight, the moss seemed to shimmer like grace itself.

Dean cast the line again and leaned back on his elbows, eyes half-closed.

"I’ll wait," he said into the warm breeze.

My personal situation is not the rule and it shouldn't be. They had their reasons. People like to be with other people and to make communities. That's how we survive.

The sense of belonging is fake. Everybody is alone.

I don't think that's true. People can have (chosen) family, friends, a safety network around them. I find the idea of extreme individuality particularly terrifying. It does no good to anyone. I'm now in what sometimes is considered the margins of society and I still care for everyone around me, even if it's people I only see passing by. Losing the ability to care is losing one of the greatest parts of ourselves.

In places like this one it's so easy to forget that we are human beings, not only "patients". I understand that we need schedules and to stick to the rules but trying to have more "phone-time" shouldn't have such an aggresive response. Most of us it's the only thing we have.

If I ever get out here I'm changing all my bedsheets to some colors. Any colors, I don't care. I don't think I'll be able to look to a white piece of fabric ever again without it triggering some shit.

There are so many lonely women in this place. I wasn't able to imagine how many people like me live here as a more or less permanent patient. People with no one out there. And it's so difficult to reach out to someone so deeply inside their own sorrow, most of the time we can only take a seat by each other and simply be there. We are all different and yet the same.
