Volleyball was a simple concept in theory. Hitting the ball over the net and trying to have it land on the floor on the other team’s side. The winner of two rounds is the victor.
It wasn’t often Iwaizumi had a chance to teach a beginner how to play. Of course, the concept was simple, but the form? Not so much.
He wasn’t a setter, but he’d observed Oikawa setting enough times to be a decent enough teacher at it, if the person he was teaching chose so. But spiking, that was where Iwaizumi excelled. They didn’t call him their ace for nothing, after all.
Holding the ball under his arm, he looked over the person before him.
“So you wanna learn how to play, that’s it?”

Can’t Beat ‘Em? Join ‘Em! | [closed; butterflytheorem]
You know, all the sports facilities and training areas floating around the city might not make this place so bad? Sure he was trapped here with no conceivable way to go home, but it was only temporary, right? Surely they’d have to let him go home eventually. Back to his average life preparing to go to college and babysitting Oikawa (given they let him leave too). For now though, finding the small familiar pleasures in the city was a nice feeling.
It had been so hot this summer and the coolness the water of the pool provided him with felt amazing. It was crystal clear water and shimmered in the light, as if to welcome him in even. He’d found a water volleyball net, maybe if someone else came along he could make sure of it. For not though, he was content to just float on his back, holding the ball to his chest, and almost not noticing when he wasn’t alone anymore.

Maybe Kageyama was flustered because he feared if Iwaizumi had arrived nearby, then oikawa would surely be on his way. No such luck, however. Or perhaps, it is lucky in the setter’s favor. Iwaizumi was alone, out and about and happened to run into a former teammate and rival. He wondered if anyone else had managed to sneak in while his head was turned.
“Really? I know I’ve seen a few players from your team illing about. And of course I’ve seen that Trashykawa, not that I’m sure yuo even want to seehim. Do you want to go somewhere and talk? At least, to get you out of the store. Your voice started people staring at us.”

Of course this situation was bizarre!! He never knew who he was going to run into, and frankly, he was trying to avoid absolutely everyone that he could. It was one thing to run into your own teammates, but it was something else to run into rival teams. Rival teams that had one of the people that yanno.. kinda sorta bullied you the most. Not that it mattered (but it did). Oikawa was an enigma and his feelings were always conflicting, no matter what. But that didn’t matter now. What mattered now was the store. And that his voice carried.
Shit.
“Don’t worry about it..” he mumbled, nervous energy still in his words as his cheeks flushed. “I um.. get what you mean, though. You’re only the second person that I’ve seen who I know since coming here..”

It was a little surprising for him to get snapped at in the middle of the store, but he didn’t let that show on his face, he never really did anyway. It was understandable though, he did sort of sneak up on him after all. So getting snapped at was okay, this was okay. He’d been kind of surprised to see Kageyama here, and when he asked himself ‘why’ he didn’t have an answer, given the other players he’d seen here already. Maybe it was just how utterly bizarre the entire situation was to start with.
“It’s fine, it was my fault for surprising you. I’m okay I guess, or as okay as I could be stuck in this weird hell.”
Some Damn Peace And Quiet || closed; lonelysetter
Kageyama was minding his own business. And minding his own business meant he had a mask covering the lower half of his face and a hat on, trying to keep to himself. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be talked to, but he didn’t want to be talked to. It was easier to do personal shopping for some clothes (he wanted some new jeans and a good hoodie) when you looked like you didn’t want to be bothered. After all, people tried to pedal things to you less.
But that also meant thinking too much, stuck on volleyball and the lack of it that he’d gotten to play. It was making him antsy, not having other teammates to play with. Volleyball was a sport that got boring on your own really fast, especially as a setter. He was so in thought he didn’t realize someone walking towards him until the sudden hand, blinking wide before turning on his heel.
“What do you want?” he snapped.
And it took a second, expression softening as he realized who it was, tugging down the mask.
“I mean .. excuse me, senpai.” Oh, there was a question. “I - I’m ok, yeah. .. and you?”

Finally, a chance to talk to Kageyama again without Oikawa glued to his side like he always seemed to be. That said, it wasn’t that he didn’t like Oikawa’s company (he did, usually) and it wasn’t that he was frustrated not getting to talk to his kouhai (he wasn’t), but it was still nice to see him again with a string of insults spun from Oikawa’s own lips. It sucked that it took this kind of setting to be able to talk to him though, not that he went out of his way for things back home.
Walking up, he placed a hand on Kageyama’s shoulder from behind. He wasn’t one for words, neither of them were really, but maybe that would help them communicate fine.
“Kageyama, are you well?”

Jumping a little in surprise, Iwaizumi scowled at Bokuto’s hip check (as if there was really any other reaction he’d make).
“Yeah, I’m from Seijou. And you’re the captain at Fukurodani, right? Don’t ram into me.”
“Hey hey HEY!”
Hip checking ensues, smile devious.
“Aren’t you that one guy from uh.. what is it. Seijou?”

A swat to the back of the head followed Oikawa’s remarks of finding everyone but their kouhai. After all, Oikawa had honestly been nothing but terrible to him, hadn’t he? He wasn’t going to comment this time, no, but the smack to the head would at least get across his annoyance in the other. Instead, he chose to focus on Oikawa’s marketing strategies. “You can keep an eye out without overheating yourself. Besides, wouldn’t people recognize ‘The Grand King’ anyway?” Light smirk danced on his lips as he used Hinata’s nickname for Oikawa in jest. He was glad Oikawa was keeping an eye out, sure, but it felt unlikely that they’d find too many others, somehow, at least from Seijou.
Spring High had meant everything to them, especially as third years, and it wouldn’t be that easy to just get over it and move on. They were stuck with the thought of losing and then needing to move on somewhere where their loss hadn’t mattered at all, where there was no tournament and no one to win against, to lose to, to challenge. It was just them, and it was empty.
Afraid of a sincere of moment, the conversation topic changed and Iwaizumi could only follow to avoid the emotional whiplash. “How many times do I have to turn down your ‘generous offers’ before you stop asking?” A tennis show found its way up, smacking into Oikawa’s backside before he ran off toward the convenience store.
“Those all sound disgusting. Is that really all there is? Lets go inside, maybe there’s better flavors in an inside freezer. People probably got here before we did and took all the good flavors out of this one.”
♔} freestyle. // closed.
Paying for their snack wasn’t so much the issue for him; instead, Oikawa playfully rolled his eyes as he tugged at his jacket’s zipper and yanked it down. “Fine, mom,” he teased. “But I was only keeping it on so that it might alert others from back home that we’re here, too.” Thinking ahead of the game, wouldn’t Iwaizumi be so proud of his advertising strategy? Oikawa paused, tapping a finger to the bottom of his chin and giving his ploy a second thought. “–But I could do without finding someone like Tobio-chan.” He was quick to shrug off his jacket then, and folded it over his arm. While he was all about finding other volleyball players regardless of their team, he was the only exception, bitter as he might have been. But Iwaizumi sounded like he wasn’t going to let him off easily with teases and jabs.
His words caught him off guard, if only momentarily. Hazel eyes blinked as they walked on, their pace synchronized to the very beat of their soles to cement. Iwaizumi was telling him not to worry. That everything was fine – when, for him, everything was anything but that. And even Oikawa knew he couldn’t use his status as team captain as an excuse for feeling more entitled to feel guiltier than his pillar. “I know that. But…–” ‘Spring High meant everything for us.’ Luckily for him, though, he didn’t have to stay long on the topic he feared the most, when another one was quick to replace it.
“You sure about that, Iwa-chan~?” A coy smile creased across his lips before he slipped his arm off his friend’s shoulder. “Think how big this place is – I’m sure we can find someone who’d take you.” But he was quick to leave it at that, for fear of being publicly reprimanded by Iwaizumi in the streets, that is. Within the thicket of people that crowded what was the city’s shopping district, Oikawa’s eyes caught sight of a bright green fluorescent that screamed convenience store. He was quick to weave through passerby until he ended up at the tiny store’s entrance. A portable freezer was nestled right beside the store’s entryway. Only…
“W-What’s with all these weird flavors!? Popcorn, horseradish, pickle, salmon…” Donning a pout, Seijou’s dork of a captain turned to look at the only capable individual around with a bleary-eyed expression. “What do we doooo? Our cute ice cream date is ruined!”

Bara Clan, Here We Stand || closed; unspiker
He knew sooner or later that he would need to attend school here. Not that it was a requirement, not, but he figured finishing off his final year of high school might be good. You know, in case he made it to the real world again. That way he wouldn’t forget anything.
He had hoped there’d be a volleyball club in the school, yet was pleasantly surprised to see fliers up for new members to join. Who was he supposed to talk to-- oh! Oh he knew Sawamura Daichi. He’d played Karasuno many times before and always thought he was really pleasant, agreeable, easy to get along with. He was glad it was him starting up a club for much needed distractions.
Upon entering the gym, he peeked around, looking to catch sight of the other spiker in hopes to join up with him. Who knew, maybe they’d have some sort of ultimate team here.

“Hello, is anyone here? I’m here about the volleyball club.”
