omg literally this!!! I feel like the show really needed more of that murderbot at its most vulnerable and mb's hermit esc life. It spends so much time in the book in various curled up binging poses, it uses emergency blankets to warm up, it is almost always making an awkward uncomfortable face even when it doesnt think it is!!

They did get the correcy amount of wall staring though... real.

I’m not a total hater for the Murderbot show, but I will say I think there should have been more practical effects used to make it look less human. The super smooth Ken doll body gave me the ick, just a little. Also why wasn’t it curled up with its lil’ blanket like it was supposed to be in that scene, why did they deprive us of that??

So episode 5 of the adaptation comes out soon, and I am very curious to see where the show runners take it. In the book, its a critical turning point in the story and MB's personal arc. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess where they might take this one!

Spoilers Ahead!

Based on the promotional images for this episode, I feel like the plot is going to rocket forwards. It looks like they may be making plans to launch the beacon, and potentially even start MB's and Mensah's distraction plot? With how they stretched the deltfall exploration plot, I'll be surprised if it does dive right into the escape.

I HOPE they spend a good chunk of the episode on the emotional conflict of MB's discovery. I feel like its one of the most impactful moments in the book, and with how MB TV has been expanding to include the pres aux teams perspective and MB's golden get me out of here expressions, I hope it gets the weight it deserves.

So... the blond lady. With the removal of Volescu and Overse, and tweaks to some of the relationships in their absence, I'm starting to wonder if they might join the plot in another way. What if she's Overse, joining from Deltfall instead?

We've seen how Arada's character in show is still a very kind, empathetic character, and I could see her getting close to the survivor naturally. Will she break up Pin-Lee and Arada's marriage? Anything could happen in the adaptation......

Speaking of rocky relationships, I don't think the Arada, Ratthi, Pin-Lee polycule is going to last the episode. I feel like its going to be a total shakeup now, or they'll address it just before the climax later on at the worst possible time. Like, fleeing graycris level of bad timing.

Any theories y'all have? I am both intrigued and terrified to see where this goes.

Hot take Guillermo from What We Do In The Shadows and Murderbot (book) would get along I think.

Both protect people that at times are utterly unpredictable and drive them nuts. Murderbot hates eye contact and I think Guillermo respects that. Both are queer, and have complicated relationships with their identity outside of queerness.

Both are tired of their "humans" shit half the time, but love them anyways.

Anyhow. They would be friends.

refining my book Murderbot design! Obviously, it needs lots of pockets in its line of work, and plenty more screentime. I think this would be early mb, first and second book as it starts to find the ways it feels most comfortable. I also feel like a tiny, scruffy ponytail for when its hair starts to grow out is just a necessity. It's a busy secunit-- it doesn't have time to deal with that mullet!

I tried to include the tech aspects in a few spots, like the arm that it removes in one of the later books and reattaches, built in earrings for its feed, and some facial joining points. All its feeds face towards itself-- but a career in printmaking has prepared me for writing all the backwards text!

No justification for the blue hair, it just felt right (: Anyone else headcannon mb with a non-natural hair colour or other specific elements?

Decided to redraw a frame from Murderbot with with a design inspired by the books! Thinking of trying to develop mb's design further-- very excited to do mb post armour. I can't get over the hoodie with gun blast holes as its chosen look.

”you can just make an oc” you dont understand anything. the character needs to mutate naturally until unrecognizable. like all evolutionary processes it takes time. you can’t force it or it doesn’t take. you must endure weird ooc thematically discordant versions of a guy until they bud off into beautiful new life. have patience

MURDERBOT!!!!!

Wanted to practice poses and took the opportunity to experiment with some different Murderbot designs <3

It has a heavier build, boobs, and a soft mohawk / mullet type haircut, with metal plates on the side of its head. The second Murderbot is mid-jump with one fist drawn back, appearing to fling itself forward into a punch. It has darker skin and dark, curly hair up in two short pigtails. It’s wearing cargo pants with a large tactical belt-pouch strapped to one leg, and a big jacket with unbuckled straps on the collar and hanging off the bottom.

The third Murderbot is doing a vault, with its body mostly horizontal, one hand planted on the ground and one flung up above it. It has short, floppy hair with two longer sections on either side of its face. It’s wearing cargo pants with a thigh harness, and a long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves pushed up to the elbow, revealing the open gun ports on both its forearms.

The last Murderbot is standing in a wide, solid stance, as if preparing for action. It has darker skin and dark hair with a thick, coily texture in a box cut style with inorganic details in the side. It has a smaller build with comparatively thicker hips and thighs, and boobs. It’s wearing cargo pants with a set of pockets at the top and bottom, and a soft jacket that’s puffed out as if hit by wind.

Around the four main drawings are three smaller doodles: one of a curly-haired Murderbot lying down with both hands on its stomach looking angry, one of a Murderbot with thick legs and a puffy jacket sitting on something and flipping off the ceiling, and one of a long-haired Murderbot tying its hair up in a ponytail. /end ID]

Part of me is obsessed with the idea that the animated intro to the new murderbot show would have been such a cool way to adapt it on its own. Poor mb looks so lost and confused, but also very curious flying around aimlessly in space and if that isn't book mb then what is?

There's something about the ambiguity and digital texture of it that just feels right for murderbot, and animation would have been so expressive. Part of me wishes I knew how to use blender for the animatic potential alone.

Imagine like 3d printed style aardman animation meets the narrative tension and attention to source material of into the spiderverse, but murderbot. Half of the animation is mb staring at a wall. Its a character drama but the narrator doesn't want to be there. Every time mb watches a show, we look through the overlay and see the begrudging frustration when someone interrupts it as the screen drops.

Animation would allow for so much flexibility in depicting the world and visual flexibility. I think a few specific elements would really translate best in animated form, like:

Secsystem / any interfacing visuals

Adapting more abstract premises like pings

Existing within / navigating mb's digital existence, especially in relationship with ART

Multitasking multiple inputs

mb's relationship with its body and getting to really play with that construct character design beyond the limits of costuming

Just imagine so much more camera hopping through the drones and security from mb's perspective!

So much of mb's perspective takes place in its sensations and exploration of the technology around it, which I think is especially tricky to convey in an interesting and meaningful way in live action. And animated formats are nice because it doesn't lose out on character expression or voice in any way, and aren't limited to camera movement.

This is probably incoherent but if anyone has thoughts on what a mb adaptation would have been like in that format throw them at me!! I have been living off the tumblr ever since I started the books just recently and wanted to get more involved in the fandom (:
