THE PERENNIAL IMPRINT: BAGH
Hello, U.
Adding this artistic essence to our acquisition, we introduce the Bagh Prints.
This 400-year-old tradition, using natural ingredients and labor-intensive techniques, is no casual deed.
Inspired by the intricate motifs, organic hues, nature, the ancient architecture of temples & forts, rural lifestyle, and abstract patterns, Bagh print articulates several tidings to the beholder.
Originating from a village situated in Dhar (Madhya Pradesh), Bagh prints are one of the most perennial crafts of our country.
It is rather a mosaic of colors, patterns, and designs that seem to flow seamlessly and co-exist perfectly. This is the beauty of Indian textiles and print—a rich tapestry of well-defined block work in myriad hues and nature-inspired themes.
Madhya Pradesh is home to several textile printing styles, especially Bagh Print. The state is the kernel of numerous time-tested handicrafts and handloom products that are innovative and artistic.
In India, this ancient printing technique appropriates a hand-carved teak woodblock, dipped in dye and stamped by hand onto cotton or silk. Ethical woodblock printing requires skill and practice to create uniformity and intricate patterns.
Our artisans possess great knowledge in the usage of natural plant dyes adjacent to their splendid carving capabilities.
Block prints employ the craftsman’s hand and eye coordination resulting in slight imperfections in the final pattern. These add a human touch to the fabric and become a much-loved quality, to the extent that technologically advanced screen-printing machines today are designed to replicate these handmade subtleties.
The inspirations for designs and patterns in this craftsmanship include nature (jasmines & mushrooms), architecture (jaalis of Taj Mahal & old Mughal architecture), landscapes, and geometrical figures. The motifs evoke various emotions in the serenity of their prints.
The raw materials that elaborate the beauty of the prints are mostly either cotton or silk. However, with the advancement of technology, fabrics such as crepe and chiffon are also used presently.
Bagh prints are the remnants of pride that we have in our inventory of textiles. The magnificence is Handcrafted, just like Bagh.
