Makorra Week 2014

Breaking the hiatus for a bit to bring you an update from the Makorra group on deviantART and the hosts for the official Makorra Week event:

MAKORRA WEEK 2014!

Makorra Week 2014 will be held the week of Dec. 21st - Dec. 27th.

The prompts are: Bodyguard, Ice Queen, Kiss, Losing, Reflection, Sunrise, and Timeless.

UPDATE - Unofficial Makorra Week is going to be POSTPONED.

It pains me to have to do this, but in light of all the events already scheduled for the Makorra fandom in the very near future, and to minimize the pressure on people who want to participate in all the events, the "Unofficial" Makorra Week I wanted to host will be postponed until further notice. Just to clarify, it's not going away, it's just going to be held at a later date, possibly in the spring or in the summer--whenever there's a demand and thirst for Makorra, we can have an impromptu Makorra Week. The whole point of having this unofficial event was to provide a medium for the fans of Makorra to come together and have fun while waiting for the official events to come up. However, I didn't expect the others to come so soon. There's nothing wrong with that--but with all these fun (and more organized) events coming up, there's no need to have an impromptu event like this one.

The winning week that would have held the Unofficial Makorra Week event was November 23 (11/23)-November 29 (11/29) with about 32% of the total votes. I'm trying to think of ideas of something else we can do that is pretty low-key and minimally stressful during this week. An idea I've been playing around with is the possibility of having a Makorra Celebration Week where the fandom pools together their favorite Makorra moments in the series so far and we count down the top 7 that week. If you guys have any suggestions or like this idea, let me know!

In any case, I want to thank you all so much for your support and for helping spread the news of this event. It surprised me how fast people found out about this--by the end of the day after the first post, it seemed like everyone had heard about it! A very special thanks to flame-o, who was the first person to help me spread the news of this event, to msmakorra, who was also an amazing supporter, and to everyone else who reblogged updates and told their friends about this. This blog got over 100 followers under 12 hours, which I think is super amazing. Thank you for following and thank you so much for all your support! We'll see you soon for an unofficial event in the future!

Now, an update on the Makorra events currently going on or that will happen in the future:

Makorra Family Week: Submission dates for prompt ideas will open on Monday, October 20 (10/20) and close on Thursday, October 23 (10/23). The event will run from December 14 (12/14)-December 20 (12/20). mrspettyferr and pumpkinpie89 are the moderators for this event and they also have a DA page here.

Makorra Week: The moderators of the original Makorra Week event are currently taking submissions for prompts and holding a vote for the week the event should take place over at their DA page. The earliest week they have available for vote is November 30 (11/30)-December 6 (12/6). They also have a Tumblr page, but it's currently inactive.

Makorra Smut Week: Voting for the week to host the event is open until Sunday, October 19. Right now "after Book 4" is in the lead to host the event. But if you liked the idea of having a smut week here, go vote over there and you can probably bump the event up sooner! They are also open for prompt idea submissions. Here is their Tumblr page and the link to their ask box. officially-avatar-korra and makorrahentai (otp-makorra) are the moderators for this event.

The Makorra 100 Themes Challenge: This is a relatively new event which looks amazing. It's a 100 themes challenge all completely dedicated to Makorra--done at your own pace, however many themes you want (so no ship week deadlines or stress!). The challenge is still under construction but the moderators are currently taking all your ideas for submission over at 100makorrathemes. Here is a direct link to their ask and submission boxes. Go check it out--the list is long and has enough variety for everyone! The deadline to submit your prompt ideas is Sunday, October 19 (10/19).

All the prompt ideas that were submitted here will be forwarded to the official Makorra week administrators at their DA page.

One last thing--I know this is a long post, but if y'all could please reblog to let everyone know about the postponing of this event, or let people know that it's being postponed? It's a lot to ask, but it would be a great help! This post will be reblogged periodically over the next few days to reach everyone and then this blog will go on hiatus. Why not just do the unofficial makorra week later? Like in the summer? That way we have two weeks a year; one in the summer one in winter. :)

That could be arranged! If enough people want it, I'd be happy to set it up! :D Right now there is just a lot going on, so I think I will step back and let the other weeks/events do their thing. There's a lot of creativity to be honed from the fandom, but I think a lot of people will get burnt out or feel really stressed with all these great events they want to participate in and feel like they can't do them all and the amount and quality of contributions might dwindle. (I know I couldn't!)

The way I wanted this to work was to set up a random Makorra week when there's not a lot going on to bring the fans of the pairing together. So if things start to die down later on next year and y'all want things to pick up, we can have unofficial Makorra week then. We can have multiple unofficial Makorra weeks. I'll do whatever you guys feel up to doing. As of right now, I'm thinking of other ideas that aren't a ship week to get everyone together so this event isn't a total bust xD. Suggestions are very welcome! I'll keep you all updated and make an official announcement tomorrow.

With the official event happening very, very likely before the end of this year, this event may bow out to give way to the official event. I'm going to sleep on this, and make an official decision before tomorrow night. Until then, the voting here will continue and I will still note your ideas for prompts. As of right now, pretty much anything goes—whatever themes you want, send them in! Do, however, keep in mind that Makorra Family Week and Makorra Smut Week are also going to be/currently are taking prompt theme submissions, so send your ideas over to them, too! (In fact, I’d prioritize those weeks over this one. Both are official weeks and the former have a deviantART group. This one will be completely Tumblr-hosted and it’s **FOR FUN**.) Submissions will be taken from today (10/15) until Sunday (10/19) night and will close at 11:59 EDT so it doesn’t interfere with the submission dates for Makorra Family Week, which will be from Monday (10/20) until Thursday (10/23). As of right now, Makorra Smut Week is taking your prompt theme submissions with an indefinite end date.

Now it’s time to squeeze those noodles for ideas! Think of all the ways you want Makorra to be featured. Is it a color? A place? A gesture? An emotion? Your favorite verb? Go back and watch some episodes if you want; the Makorra-heavy episodes are always great sources of inspiration (there’s probably at least 10 theme ideas in “The Revelation” alone!). If there’s an AU you really like, send those in too!

Once all the prompt ideas have been collected, they’ll be put to a vote, and the top 7 prompts will be the featured themes for Unofficial Makorra Week 2014. If you guys send enough prompt ideas we may have to have a couple of rounds of voting to narrow the choices down, but we’ll see how it goes. So send those ideas in…now! Just a quick reminder that the voting for the week to host Unofficial Makorra/Koko Week 2014 is still open, but it will be closing later today, so if you haven't voted yet, get your vote in! Right now, the leading week is still November 23 (11/23)-November 29 (11/29) with 28 votes and the runner-up is still November 9 (11/9)-November 15 (11/15) with 24 votes and overall we have a total of 91 responses. We just need another 9 votes to get to the 100 responses goal!

"Love Comes in Circles" I really like the idea of this theme. I feel like it goes hand-in-hand with the theme of balance. And because the song "I Did With You" by Lady Antebellum gives me feels :)

Here is an update re: current numbers on which weeks work best to host Unofficial Makorra Week 2014. The week of November 23 (11/23)-November 29 (11/29) is in the lead with 25 votes, the week of November 9 (11/9)-November 15 (11/15) is in second place with 21 votes, and the week of November 2 (11/2)-November 8 (11/8) is in third place with 16 votes. These numbers are all fairly close, so it's still likely that one of the weeks will get more votes over the other. Keep voting and ask anyone you know that hasn't voted yet (and is interested in participating/seeing the event take place) to get their votes in!

Since the voting for this is starting to wind down anyway, I think I'll close the voting tomorrow night and have the ask box open and ready for your prompt ideas early tomorrow. If you haven't voted yet, please do--one vote can make a difference! Ideally 100 responses would be great. I'll have everything ready re: prompt idea submissions ready for you to look over by tomorrow. Start brainstorming ideas for prompts and get ready to mark your calendars! :)

A quick update: Currently still in the lead is the week of November 23 (11/23)-November 29 (11/29) with five more votes over the week of November 9 (11/9)-November 15 (11/15). However, I want to add that if the projection dates on this post over at korranews is true, this would mean that Unofficial Makorra Week 2014 would be hosted one week before the series finale. Please take this into account and vote again if you must. Holding a ship week that close to the finale could be a bust (or more successful!) with emotions running high for the end of the show.

P.S. It's also come to my attention that with the rise of all of these Makorra Weeks, holding them too close to each other will add unnecessary stress to participants who want to participate for all of them (with good measure and completely understandable!). Currently Unofficial Makorra Week 2014 is looking like it will lead into all the other Makorra Weeks, so with Makorra Family Week taking place the week of December 14 (12/14)-December 20 (12/20), hopefully Makorra Smut Week and the official Makorra Week will take place with ample time after.

The voting for the dates to host Unofficial Makorra Week is still going—don’t forget to vote for the dates that work best for you! Go vote!
