I think if he falls too deep into thought, it becomes a question for him of how human he still is? Maybe not even on a deeper, conscious level, but a passing thought instead, since he doesn’t seem the type to dwell willingly. Moving on is also a form of adaptation after all.

It doesn't sit right with me when people talk about how traumatized he is because to me him and his story is about resilience, and I think he's really well-adjusted for who he is and what he went through. To me it reads like a fetishization of his "trauma," a bit like woobification.

Some redditors were blaming Skirk for letting him stay in the abyss and not sending him back immediately, it's really bizarre, like seeing Scara mains hate on Raiden except in that case it's more justified. Feels like sublimated mommy issues.

If Skirk gave him the choice to send him back or give him the chance to train with her, do you think he would have chosen to go back?

Childe is literally “came back wrong” except I don’t think he clocks that the same way everyone else does? In canon anyways, he seems very accepting of what’s happened to him (innate and learned adaptability) and while there’s a conscious awareness that “yes, he’s different- he’s not the same, something is wrong”-

I don’t think it quite hits him. This is simply who he is now. There’s a superficial sense of understanding that he came back “wrong”. A dissociation maybe? He knows it’s different, that it’s even blasphemous by some standards, but it’s just who he is now. And there’s a level of self acceptance that comes with this that also makes it less “come back wrong” and more “come back different. Odd. Strange.” But not *wrong* per se???

I really hope that when Tartaglia's family shows up, their relationship is a complete mess.

I need them to have a fraught relationship with each other, a brother who can't forgive his parents for sending him away, parents who fear him, a brother who hates/envies him, one who ran away from the whole mess that is his family.

I need to see resentment on all sides and them trying their best to pretend that everything is okay.

I hope we see more elaboration in canon, but his trauma clearly manifests in his desire to preserve the childhood innocence of his siblings more than “Oh no. Abyss nightmares.”

Even if there’s dreams of the whale and it calling him, it affected him more as “What the fuck- where is that- why is my vision being weird- I need to stab something or I’m going to implode and the lack of control is pissing me off more, what the fuck-“

Like, the Trauma is definitely there, but he’s also a different person than the Ajax that went into the Abyss, and even then?? He clearly had the qualities and resilience to make the best of a shitty situation, playing cards he’s been dealt.

We see this in how he bends his morals to suit his goals as well, even if it clearly irritates him. I personally headcanon that as a learned trait *because* of how adaptable he had to be to survive the abyss.
