A Request for Help

On Thursday, October 18th, my Emotional Support Animal, Rodney, had to go in for his second round of bladder stone surgery. The surgery was, to quote the vet, the “most complicated” stone removal she had ever performed in her 26 years of experience. Rodney was under anesthesia for two and a half hours and passed away shortly after. My heart is broken because I lost my best friend. This was all so sudden and unfortunately, I have no savings. With the surgery and final expenses (cremation), the vet bill is $1,800. I live paycheck to paycheck and after bills and groceries, I do not have nearly enough to cover the costs, so I am asking for help. Any little bit helps and please share this campaign with others. Rodney was such a blessing to me and I am stronger for having him as a part of my life. He brought joy and smiles to everyone, even people who had never even met him. Please help me give this precious little guy the proper burial an Emotional Support Animal deserves. Thank you.

Erik straighted, cloak falling over his shoulders as he stood tall. His side ached, but he would keep such nuisances to himself. No one else needed to know about it. "I am fine. Do not concern yourself." The words were firm and it was the only time he intended to say them.

Erik eyed her a moment longer then exhaled a soft sigh, fingers running through his silvering hair. Dammit, when had she grown up? And when had he gotten old? He still had more energy and life than most younger in years, but seeing her no longer in pigtails and cute pink dresses made him realize just how much time had passed. "You're more than ready for that test, Ketsl."

"It's nearly two in the morning, what are you doing up?"

If anyone understood th plague of nightmares from -that- war, it was Erik. Images of the camp, the atrocities of that hell,... his family's dead faces, they all visited him regularly. Sometimes nightly. Things had gotten easier when he found someone who willingly remained close to him, someone who... understood. Though, he still wasn't ready to voice most of those feelings.

As for the future, everything had changed when Shaw was defeated. His sole goal for life complete, Erik found himself... free, but it wasn't as he expected. There had been nothing beyond that, no future and no future plans. Oddly, it didn't instill fear, but left him... uncertain.

"Then you have to find something strong enough to drown them out." He closed the book and placed it upon the nightstand so Steve knew he had his full attention.

"I can't sleep - I've tried everything."

“I’m sure you’ve tried many things, but not -everything-.” It was then that Erik finally looked up from his book to gaze upon the other. He was sitting beneath the blankets with only a small lamp over his shoulder on so he could see. “What is making your thoughts race?” That was possibly the most likely answer.
