i wish there was more media that handled personality disordered characters like object shows do. like in bfdi rn the biggest examples of these characters would be book and pencil. (in my opinion and headcanon at least they are personality disordered. they are not canonically these disorders, but a lot of people relate to them in such ways. myself included-)
and it's not that they're entirely demonized or anything, but they provide context as to WHY these characters are this way. yes it all usually stems from creators being young and just copying cartoons at the time, but these stereotypes they've watched on TV (like TDI's cast or otherwise) and growing up with these shows that reach so many different people from different backgrounds probably helped shape more relatable and human-like characters with these traits that can be interpreted as personality disordered.
it's helped me with my own processing of this kind of stuff because in most media the character wpd would be considered JUST antagonistic or villainous when really most people in real life with these disorders are traumatized in ways that it's hard to live with or recover from. and some might never be able to when they live in a world that is out to constantly demonize their very existence.
yes these objects do not have like canonical trauma that would cause these disorders in a realistic way in some cases (minus book and pencil afaik cuz they ironically do have trauma that bleed into their present day behavior and such), but i think using the idea of an object character to present such a hard to navigate field of disorders and do it in an abstract but understandable way is wonderful and i genuinely hope it helps other people understand either themselves or others with these struggles.

im gonna be honest, this is more of a vent than an actual criticism but making salt canonically abusive to oj sucks bc she's one of the rare occurences of a sapphic character in ii. and she's weirdly hinted to be internalized about it (4s comments that pepper is her "girlfriend" and salt gets verbally and visibly frustrated afterwards) but they just resort to writing her as a sexual harrasser and making it as a joke alongside making oj uncomfortable a joke too. and oj is achellian/mlm canonically too...
like it makes sense for back then, but the crew are adults now and i just feel uncomfortable that this kind of serious issue is taken as a joke in both cases of the characters.
