Im curious as to what your thoughts/headcanons are on what Kaede and the rest of the class see when they complete death road to despair in chapter 1
That is an interesting question!
I don't think what they see is any different than what Canon shows us, however. I think that what they see is the Secret of the Outside World, AKA, the world after it's bitter end. Maybe they don't remember it because Monokuma wipes their memories of it, I'd have to re-watch that cutscene and how it ties into the loops of going through the death road, but I digress.
I don't think they really had a chance to escape. Not really.

I have a vague memory of you saying a while ago that you wanted to make a post about why you believe V3 is set in a VR simulation, but I dont think you ever actually did that? Or if you did I completely forgot. So you can say a couple of words on that, if you want
Oh, I did mention that, didn't I? That would actually make for a good proper analysis. thank you for reminding me! I'll probably work on that, as I am planning on rewatching V3 for other reasons. Would be a great way to re-familiarize myself with the text too.
I won't say anything on it yet, since I want to put all of my thoughts about that in one place, but thank you again for the reminder.

Regardless, do feel free to send me in asks or questions. Even if I might not have any specific ideas about any specific reading of the text of V3, I don't mind answering questions or talking about my own personal interpretations, if you all want to hear them.
It might not be as "professional", but it might be more engaging and entertaining that way.

... Oh. I remember why my Gonta theory didn't reach many people. It was because it wasn't posting in the tags...

As you said in your post, 100% a big part of the reason the fandom is Like That about Gonta is that drv3 itself is also kinda Like That about him too. RIP Gonta you did not deserve thsi treatment 🙏
Also I followed this acc way back in the day never thought you’d ever post again. Neat
I do understand where the Fandom comes from when it comes to the ableism presented in canon--whether that ableism was a purposeful display of micro-aggressions or an unintentional happenstance. It seems that people do not fully understand what a micro-aggression looks like, and thusly, are not able to understand it.
Still, that is why I originally made my Gonta analysis to begin with--to point out these microaggressions, to talk about it. However, as a friend pointed out to me, I do believe the approach of gently showing everyone what microaggressions look like was a bit too gentle.
Sometimes, you do need to be heavy-handed in order to make your point. I'm glad that people are reblogging it and taking my words seriously. It's a very important topic for me--and I'm sorry for not doing it sooner, to be frank. I should have stopped being stubborn a long time ago.
And, thank you for sticking around. Truth be told, I didn't expect to come back either. However, after so long of being gone and in a fandom where I felt discouraged from analyzing the text and drawing conclusions, I do miss it.
I do not really know what kind of analyses I want to do, however. I have that itch, but I don't have any strong ideas that aren't just, explicitly headcanon based. Perhaps I can discuss headcanons here as well?
I'm not sure. But still. Thank you for sticking around.

What a way to revive this blog, huh?
Please read this, and my Gonta analysis linked, as this is a very important and personal topic to me and a few of my other neurodivergent friends.
Before, I was stubbornly ignoring this specific interpretation of Gonta Gokuhara because it wasn't just upsetting--it was hurtful. However, I wanted to maintain the integrity that "all interpretations are valid, even the ones I despise", so I chose to "block and ignore" the people who thought of Gonta in this way. They deserve to have their interpretations even if I dislike them. That's what I told myself.
However, I think there is nuance to this that I had not considered until now--that while every interpretation is valid, bigotry is not.
Bigoted interpretations are interpretations that actively harm people, whether they mean to or not. Whether they realize it is bigotry or not. And I think that, instead of ignoring the bigotry, I should instead discuss this bigotry in fandom and why it is important to question yourself about your beliefs. It is important to look and challenge your beliefs because you may actively be perpetuating horrible stereotypes, bigoted mindsets, or harmful microaggressions.
Ableism is something that affects me and my friends daily. So seeing ignorant takes on Gonta--the ones that imply he's nothing but like a child who can think no impure thoughts--hurts us on a deep level.
That is why I will no longer commit to that philosophy--that every headcanon is valid, even if I don't like it. At least, when it comes to actively bigoted interpretations that hurt people. There is of course just a matter of different opinions on canon and what the text is trying to tell us, but differing opinions do not equate to that of ableism and bigotry.
So if you are comfortable with it, please spread this post around the fandom. Please acknowledge the issues presented here in these kinds of interpretations, and please re-evaluate your own personal thoughts and opinions on the subject should this post be presenting you with discomfort.
I want this to change. I want to be able to see Gonta Gokuhara works of fan art and fan fiction without feeling bruised when I am hit with this kind of ableism in the fandom.
A lot of us are tired. So please take this post into serious consideration.
And thank you for doing so.
Okay in all seriousness. There's something that I REALLY want to talk about as an open discussion with the fandom, but. This is not going to be a very nice thing to hear/talk about.
It's about how Gonta is treated by the fandom.
As a fan of all the V3 characters now, and as someone who has always been a fan of Gonta, and as someone who has many mental disabilities and two diagnosed neurodivergancies... I'm tired of playing nice about it.
You all need to stop being ableist towards Gonta.
I've mentioned in the past that I don't like shitting on personal interpretations. I don't like saying something is or is not canon because narration is just a big web of text that you try to decipher with your own personal biases, experiences, and thoughts. That's why two literary analysts analyzing the same text with the same literary criticism rules can come to wildly different conclusions--why people develop different headcanons from the same canonical information.
But one of the things that challenged my integrity is just how many people view Gonta as this innocent, naive, ignorant, baby boy who can do no harm/never has a complicated/dirty/violent/sexual thought in his life ever.
This incredibly ableist interpretation of the character bothered me for, well, obvious reasons (See: It's fucking ableist, need I say more?) but I never challenged it as harshly as I am now because to be frank, it's not my place to tell people how to HC a character. It still isn't. But I've pretty much given up on my integrity on the subject and have decided to go all in on discussing why this interpretation of Gonta is just. Really bad.
First of all, not to promote my own analyses here or anything, but I think this analysis I did of Gonta explains a LOT in regards to the ableism the cast gives him in canon. I also think that this subtle ableism is why the fandom is so bad with Gonta's characterization in headcanons and fanfic--because they've seen how the cast treats him, and they think it's normal. They don't see the microaggressions, they don't see the subtle ableism in the cast--they just see this big giant idiot who speaks like Tarzan in the English version (which... I don't actually know why people assume Tarzan (Thinking of Disney's version) is stupid. Like as a boy he had to reinvent the spear with no one to guide him on how to do it. He was able to strategize and outsmart "civilized" men in the final showdown. Still I digress) and don't see the literal genius behind his social awkwardness.
There is also another very important point I'm going to make in addition to this, and it's going to be very uncomfortable to Gonta fans who insist he's nothing but a sweet baby who only has pure thoughts. Especially to the fans who insist he "can't be sexual" or think it's weird to ship him with his peers.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but... Gonta blatantly has sexual desire and gets horny right in canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is further clarified here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn't a matter of Gonta didn't want to touch her because touching someone in their underwear was inappropriate, or being flustered because she was in her underwear which is inappropriate...
It was literally a "weird feeling" that made him unable to approach her or touch her. A "weird feeling" that Miu makes pretty obvious as to what it was--sexual arousal.
He literally was sexually attracted to and felt sexual arousal from looking at Miu in her underwear. He had sexual feelings and thoughts about Miu. Why?
Because Gonta is a young man.
Gonta is a brilliant, talented young man who has normal human thoughts for someone his age--sexual desires, upsetting thoughts, complicated thoughts, ectect. He is not a child, he is not mentally stunted (I've been informed that people have literally said this on Ao3 for the NSFW Gonta fics, please for the love of god stop that)
I think the reason why Gonta fans typically want to keep him as a "pure baby child who can do no wrong" is because treating him like the young adult that he is makes it harder for them to justify Chapter 4. Every time I've seen a Gonta fan that hates Kokichi, it's always followed by the sentiment of "Kokichi manipulated and abused Gonta into killing Miu, so it's all Kokichi's fault." They're afraid of nuance and liking a character with the grey morality of genuinely thinking Mercy Killing the cast is a viable option, because it challenges their own morals about the character they adore.
To those people who read this and are upset: You can and should like Gonta! Gonta is a magnificent character who showcases the subtle way microaggressions can manifest and hurt people, he's a good-hearted person and a literal genius, he cares deeply for his friends and loves everyone with upmost sincerity.
But.
You need to re-evaluate your stance on Gonta if you think he's a stupid, naive fool who Kokichi manipulated. You need to re-evaluate why you think those thoughts, why you think Gonta being shipped with anyone is "Kinda weird" or "has weird consent problems" or "give you the ick." You have to challenge yourself and ask yourself uncomfortable questions in regards to why you treat Gonta like a child when canon has proven otherwise, why you think he cannot have violent or sexual thoughts, why he can't think mercy killing his class is the only way to save them.
This isn't an attack on you--but understand that these specific takes on Gonta? They are ableist in nature. They belittle and dismiss him, they treat him like a child, an idiot who can't think for himself--and you have to come to terms with the fact that Gonta is a far more complex character with complicated thoughts and feelings who is a young adult. Not a child. A young adult.
So again, ask yourself this: Why are you treating this young adult like he's a toddler?

So it has been decided. Archival it is.
Thank you to everyone who voted, and thank you to everyone who enjoyed my analyses over the years. It means a lot that people liked them so much, and still do to this day.
I wish everyone who happens to see this post who is inspired to analyze the text themselves (no mater what media) that you do so with your head high. There is no shame in having an "out there" literary interpretation, to disagree with the common interpretation, or being creative while analytical. There is also nothing wrong with having interpretations that match up with the common interpretation, and bringing more insight onto a such interpretation to the table.
Literary Analysis isn't about proving yourself right or wrong. It doesn't matter if you use one method of Literary Critique over the other. The point of Literary Analysis is to recontextualize what you are seeing, promote critical thought of fiction within yourself, asking questions and digging for answers, and accepting that there isn't a one-all-be-all interpretation of fiction. They are all threads to a spider's web, interconnected and tangled around the center--the text--with each thread providing structure and integrity to its center.
If you want to make one of those threads, you have every right to do so, and I encourage that.
I'm also grateful that, as far as I'm aware, my analyses were not used to abuse others like me, who had different interpretations or disagreed with my points and perspective. I never wanted my work to be used as a crutch or sword, to attack people who disagreed. I'm thankful that didn't seem to be much of a problem, and I hope that it continued to be like that in the future.
Again, thank you everyone for a lovely time.
With that, I am turning the page and closing this chapter of my life. It was fun while it lasted, truly! And It taught me a lot of things all the same.
If you wish to follow me for more content in general, you may find me over at @rubberduckyrye. That is my personal and, while I'm less formal on that account for it, I do occasionally analyze the current franchises I'm into there.
Again... thank you for having me. To those of you who I'm saying goodbye to, I hope you take care. To those of you I'll be seeing over on my personal, well--I'll see you later.
With that... This is Rye, signing off.
Hello.
I know this blog has been dead for quite some time, and I do apologize for that. I've just moved on in my interests, with my current interest being Genshin Impact.
For that reason I am here to provide a choice for the future of this blog, as I don't think I have many more things to add on to the DRV3 Meta that I'm personally interested in, and I do not want to force myself to continue to make analyses on a topic when my focus is elsewhere.
So... Here is a poll.
To clarify the options:
Option one:
I will leave this blog as is, and will probably rarely log back on to it. It will not be deleted nor the URL changed, but will be "archived" to preserve my meta analyses for Danganronpa V3. I will not be logging on to this account much (if at all), it will remain archived and inactive.
Option two:
As I change and grow, so shall this blog--and if my interests lay elsewhere, then so shall the focus of this blog. I will continue to write analysis posts on other franchises and fandoms I find an interest in, talk about different literary analysis/meta topics/deep dives, and maybe even some lore predictions. This blog will become active once again, but as a consequence, will drift away from its original focus.
I will leave the choice up to you .
Thank you for the support in the past, and regardless of the future, I hope you all who remain have a wonderful life.

Hello, I am here
Sorry I’ve been quiet on this account for quite some time. I haven’t lost interest in the blog or my theories (far from it--in fact, I’m rereading them), but my fixations have been cycling.
I am interested in writing more theories, though I’m not 100% on what. I do have an idea for writing a theory on Kaito’s motivations with Shuichi and Maki and the Training Trio, but other than that, I’m not entirely sure.
Regardless, I hope you all have been well.

A Note to be Said...
Since this is something that has come up recently on the sidelines, I thought I would make a post about it.
I do not, and will never, condone the act of theorists with arrogant attitudes threatening, wishing mental or physical harm, or belittling others for not agreeing with their interpretation.
This kind of behavior goes against any and all purpose of literary criticism, which is what theory crafting is based upon. It is also just outright harmful behavior that shouldn’t be encouraged or condoned.
I know I haven’t made theories in a long while, but as I’ve stated in the past, I only make theories when it strikes my fancy. However, I felt like this was important enough to be said even on a very slow to update blog.
To any theorists that follow--remember to be kind, and understand that interpretations are fluid and valid. Different readings from the text are going to happen that you don’t care for, and that is very much okay. Just remember to be respectful.
Sorry for the random PSA/post. I just thought it was very important to make it clear what stance I take on the “theorists” who act brashly and with arrogance towards others.

I have come back to this blog to check on it, and I’ve since discovered that some of the newcomers who have followed it are themselves other theorists, with wildly different interpretations of canon than my own.
I just wanted to say, I greatly appreciate it. I find the concept of sharing theories and interpretations in a friendly and non aggressive manner (meaning there is no one true way to interpret the text, all methods of literary criticism and interpretations are valid) to be rewarding and community building. I am glad that other theorists feel comfortable around me to follow this blog, even if they do not agree with my interpretation. It means I’ve created a welcoming environment, and that brings a smile to my face.
I may not post often on this blog, and I may be more focused on other projects, but I still wanted to take the time and say I appreciate the theorists who follow this blog and accept my interpretation as a valid one they can disagree with without feeling the need to discredit it as well. I’ve gotten used to hearing disagreements towards my interpretations, especially the ones relating to Gonta and Kokichi and the chapter 4 Mass Mercy Kill plot. That one is by far not a fandom favorite, from what I’ve seen, and it can be quite discouraging as well.
Again, thank you, and I’m glad that you theorists in my follower count feel safe enough to follow this blog.

An Announcement of Sorts
While this may be a slightly controversial decision, I have decided that I am going to start posting the main bulk of my theories onto Ao3 exclusively. I will still be posting links on this blog to promote new theories, of course, but I feel the most comfortable uploading my theories onto Ao3.
Mainly, I much prefer the ability to update Ao3′s “chapters” to the method I’ve been using on tumblr, which has me hiding the posts under a readmore so if I catch something I want to change, I can do so without causing different “realities” of the same post.
It also allows me to better organize my theories by subjects, and is easier for readers to find and discover all of my theories for one character or subject at once rather then having to dig through my blog and tags.
It also allows theories about a certain subject that might have been missed to be visible, as it would be a part of a series that people can look back upon.
I won’t be deleting this blog, however--I wold probably prefer to use this blog as a way to interact with my audience, answer questions and what have you--aside from the obvious promotion, that is.
I haven’t stopped making theories, by any means, I just feel compelled to post them on Ao3 due to the better systems in play over there.
I hope you guys understand.

I am going to run a few recording tests, to see how well things will function.
I also recall a method of turning a tablet into a secondary screen, which might be helpful. I’ll have to look into that.

I have acquired a RAM upgrade and successfully installed it.
I hope this improves my ability to capture gameplay. It should, but I have never upgraded RAM before, so I don’t know what effects it will have. I was only following the directions of opinions I found online.
Here’s hoping.

PSA: Askbox is Closing
For the time being, due to the potential of harassment, I am closing down my ask box for the time being. I may try to find an alternative solution to the ask box, so that way people can still interact with me, but for now, it is staying closed.
I deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

hi! i really love your mercy kill theory, but i actually have a question about it! so kokichi was probably aware that miu was going to kill him in chapter four, so... why wouldn't he just let her do it? she'd get away with it, since she has control over all the information about the neo world program, so he didn't have to get gonta involved to group execute everyone. just really curious to hear your thoughts (and sorry if you've already answered it haha)
I have indeed answered this inquiry--though perhaps I should update the Ao3 version of this theory with my explanation, since people seem confused by it.
Here is a link to my previous explanation.
I also have another bit of a theory as to why Kokichi also did not want to risk it by letting Miu kill him, so I will talk about that here.
Miu’s reason to escape is actually due to the fact that she believes that the world outside needs her. Miu dedicates a lot of her time to inventing things that would help people all over the world, to the point where she is frustrated with how much time sleeping is spent when she could be so much more productive. That is at least one interpretation, and it is backed up by Miu’s panic after seeing the Flashback light.
So, simply put--I think Kokichi specifically targeted her to die first to their mass mercy kill plan, because of why she wanted to escape.
If Kokichi was dead, he would have no way of making sure his plan worked, but also--even if it did, then Miu would be the one suffering the most. Not only would she have killed her entire class, but she also would have seen the secret of the outside world, and seen what she killed everyone for.
Letting her kill him on the off chance that she would succeed would have destroyed her completely.
So I would assume that killing her first was motivated from a twisted sense of kindness. Simply put, he loved her as much as he loved Gonta (and I do not mean this strictly in a romantic way, for I believe that Kokichi has a fierce, strong sense of platonic affection, but this is up to interpretation as well, and he does make a reference to her death in the morbid joke he makes, where he says he’ll “Get the attention of someone he likes, even if he has to strangle them” which a lot of people think is in reference to Shuichi, which it very well might be, but I think it was more in relation to Miu) and I do not imagine he could ever approve of letting her suffer so much guilt, regret, and grief.
That is my theory on it, anyway.
