Hi everyone, we have a new LGBTQ+ Association Discord server that is now open to join! This is a welcoming and friendly space for all LGBTQIAP+ students at UoB where you can socialise with other queer students, stay up-to-date with the Association and participate in some exclusive events like Question Of The Week and some upcoming online socials! We welcome any queer students and have members with a wide range of hobbies and interests. The server is a great way to meet new friends and is a safe space for anyone in our community, with specific channels for all identities. It's also a very welcoming space for freshers where you can meet other LGBTQ+ freshers and returning students, if you've got a question about life at the university or just want a place to hang out we'd love to meet you! :)

A huge congratulations to everyone who received their A-level results today! To all LGBTQ+ students joining the University of Birmingham, we welcome you to the university and hope that you enjoy your time here!

We are the LGBTQ+ Association; a student group for all gender, sexual and romantic minorities. We're free to join and joining us is a great way to meet queer friends and hang out with like-minded people. We've got some really exciting events in the pipeline, and we'll also be at Freshers Fair if you'd like to speak to us in-person. Our DMs are always open if you have any questions about us, LGBTQ+ related stuff or university life in general!

On Monday 15th August at 5pm we'll be holding an extra event planning meeting where we'll discuss and schedule all of our planned events for the first semester and some for later in the year. Please do come along if you can as your feedback will be very useful in making plans that people are excited for! And you'll get an exclusive preview of what's to come in September and beyond. As always, we'll post the Zoom link in the Discord or you can DM us for it on any of our accounts.

Tomorrow we'll be restarting our weekly open committee meetings. Going forward we'll also be posting reminders about them on social media so that all of our members are aware of when they're happening. Hey everyone, as we come to the end of the academic year we're looking for feedback on our publicity output so we can implement changes going into September. Our Fundraiser for Ukrainian Refugees is starting in just under 3 hours, that's 7pm on Discord (DM us for the link)! We'll be screening the 2020 documentary "Welcome to Chechnya", it's free for all to attend and you can make optional donations here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/LGBTQ. All money donated will be going to the UNHCR, supporting their vital efforts to help refugees forced to flee Ukraine.

Hi everyone, we're pleased to announce that we will be holding a fundraiser on 3rd July in support of the UNHCR, who provide vital aid to refugees such as those forced out of Ukraine by the ongoing invasion. The event will be a screening of the 2020 documentary 'Welcome to Chechnya' which follows a group of activists who risk their lives to save LGBTQ+ people in Chechnya from persecution, and we will also be holding a decompression space afterwards to discuss the documentary. The event will be hosted online via our Discord server, please DM us if you would like an invite link. The screening will be free for members to attend and we will be setting up a Just Giving page where we encourage you to donate any amount you can to the UNHCR. We look forward to seeing you for what is likely our final event this academic year! Content note: this post is about religion Rath Yatra (also known as Jagannath Rath Yatra)  is a very old and prominent Hindu holiday. It is believed that one day Goddess Subhadra, the younger sister of Lord Jagannath, expressed her desire to go around the city and from then this procession was started. During this festival the processions of three chariots of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Lord Balabhadra  and his sister Goddess Subhadra  are carried out from the  Jagannath Temple  to the Gundicha Temple in India, where they are offered with their favourite food. This festival is celebrated by a large number of devotees from all over the world. A huge procession is carried out, devotional songs are played, and devotees perform bhajans (songs of praise). Every donation of any size is appreciated. The fundraiser will close on Wednesday 6th July. In that spirit we'll be releasing an info pack in each week of June, with information on a different LGBTQ+ identity for each of their pride days. Our aim is to bring awareness to and celebrate all parts of our community, so please enjoy this pack for week 5 and share with anyone who might benefit from seeing it! We know that Pride is a joyful time for some and can be difficult for others, especially given recent hardships; but we hope that whoever you are, you can be proud of who you are and feel like a part of this amazing community. And as we come to the end of Pride Month 2022 we'd like to thank everyone who has supported and continues to support this community. If you intend on running for any available position you can still declare your candidacy in our Discord server or DMs, or you can do so at the EGM itself. A reminder that the positions available are: - Inclusion and Education Officer - Publicity Officer - Women's Representative - Men's Representative - Transgender and Non-Binary Representative - Disabled and Neurodivergent Representative We highly encourage you to run if any of these positions interest you, if you would like more info on them we released an info pack with details for each on Friday.

Nominations are now open for our EGM! If you intend to run, you can declare your candidacy online by entering your statement in the #campaigning channel of our Discord server or by DMing your statement to us on any of our social media platforms. Your statement will be added to a Google Doc available through our Linktree where members can view all candidates' statements. You can run for: - Inclusion and Education Officer - Publicity Officer - Women's Representative - Men's Representative - Transgender and Non-Binary Representative - Disabled and Neurodivergent Representative You can also suggest constitution changes to be voted on. There will be a zoom EGM on Wednesday 1st June at 1pm where you can still declare your candidacy, statements will be re-read either by the candidates or the chair, and constitution changes can be suggested, as well as any other business, and then we will have a week from 1st June - 8th June where members can vote in the elections for committee positions as well as on any constitution changes that may have been brought. We highly encourage anyone to run for any position that interests them, we'll be releasing an info pack soon containing more info on each of the roles, so keep an eye out for that if you're on the fence!
