A little lengthy

“There’s hunters in the area.” Hyunjin huffs out. The male had been out most of the day searching for more herbs for the wolves ruts. Mingyu and Johnny both look up rather quickly from their phones, standing and ushering the winded witch into the living room. “What do you mean? How do you know?” Mingyu asks as Johnny leaves the room to gather the others. Hyunjin rolls up his sleeve to reveal a deep cut caused by what seemed to be an arrow. Mingyu pushes himself up and grabs a rag to clean the wound. “We have to get going.” He mumbles as the others enter the room.

Eunwoo had already started to pack before Hyunjin starts to shake his head. “They are in the city. We have time.” He explains. Johnny clenches his jaw as he looks to Mingyu. “I’ll go warn your pack.” The second alpha nods as he heads toward the door. “And I will warn Yanan.” Sangyeon speaks, moving closely behind Johnny. Mingyu nods, swallowing a lump in his throat. “Be careful. Both of you.”

Sangyeon waited until he was outside to unleash his dark wings, giving one last nod to Johnny before shooting himself off the ground and toward the elven village that Yanan had led them to many times before. Hunters didn’t usually go after elves since they were too human, but there was always a possibility and Yanan had always been good to the pack. As the Angel landed, he was greeted by a few civilians that directed him toward their prince. Yanan did not look surprised to see the fallen Angel, almost like he was expecting this meeting. “Hunters, yes? They paid us a visit already. They had nothing to say to us. Since we were not a ‘danger’ to others. Your wolves are in trouble though. They should stay put. They have patrols everywhere.” The prince answers, his hands on his hips. Sangyeon furrows his brows before a sudden pain racks through his body, visions filling his head. If Yanan hadn’t have been close enough to catch him, sangyeon would be face down on the ground. “Johnny-“

The secondary alpha had gone as quickly as he could in the direction of Mingyu’s pack, worried about their safety. As he got closer, he began to get more and more worried. The smell of smoke filled his nostrils and he found himself running through the woods, tearing through the forest. Mingyu’s home pack had become a family to the outcasts, if something happened to them then the hunters would face hell.

The fire set through the small pack area was still blazing when Johnny arrived, the smoke blocking his senses as he ran around to look for survivors. He passed many bodies of the pack he was familiar with, Mingyu’s family, dead and left on the ground in both shifted and unshifted forms. A whimper caught Johnny’s attention, his head shooting in the direction and spotting a very injured omega holding his hands up for a hunter that was holding a crossbow to his head. Johnny’s eyes widened and he shoved himself between the omega and the hunter as the arrow was released. Ignoring the blooming pain in his abdomen, Johnny lunged at the hunter, tackling him to the ground and holding him there. “Run.” He spits out to the omega. He knew that the younger wolf could find Mingyu, he had no worries of that, but he did want answers from this hunter.

The hunter looked almost scared as he kicked Johnny from on top of him, skidding away and toward the crossbow to reload it with shaky hands as Johnny gathered his strength to stand. The hunter took aim again, shooting another bolt that flew lash Johnny’s head and giving the wolf an opportunity to recover. Instead of loading another bolt, the hunter slung the crossbow across his back and started to take off in the opposite direction of the omega, his blonde hair making him easy for Johnny to follow even despite the growing pain in his stomach.

By the time the omega made it to Mingyu and the alpha made it to the scene, both Johnny and the hunter were laying on the ground with significant injuries. “Take him.” Mingyu motions to the hunter for Sangyeon to pick up. “I’m going to have questions for him when he wakes up.” He finishes. Sangyeon picks up the male, tossing him onto his back as Mingyu carefully picks up Johnny. The hunter didn’t look like the one that was described. His pink hair a stark difference from the blonde that the omega described, but they would work it out later. Their main priority was healing Johnny and having a proper burial for Mingyu’s pack. They would worry about the other hunter later.

The hunter woke rather quickly, Mingyu having just attached the restraints to his hands when he jolted awake, causing him to cry out in pain and hold onto his stomach where a large gash was bleeding steadily. “Tell me what I want to know and you can live.” Mingyu states darkly, Yangyang standing at his side. “Welcome back Jeno.”

The news could not get enough of the strange masked man that had been terrorizing the city. No matter how many times you flicked through the channels, drawings of the mask that the man wore was in the screen. He was vicious, a horrible killer, yet nobody knew who he was. At least nobody alive did. Either that or they wouldn’t say anything in fear of being his next victim.

“We have decided to add a five hundred thousand dollar reward to anyone that has information on the masked man that leads to his arrest. This man is dangerous and there is no telling when he may kill again.”

You knew who the masked man was though. Choi Yeonjun. That was his name. You saw him once, covered in your neighbors blood as he left the house, the white bloodstained mask in his hands. You recognized him from school, he was always the kid that made friends easily up until high school, that’s when he became the quiet one that nobody talked to. You two had made eye contact before he ran off, leaving the front door of your neighbors house open. He knew that you knew, and you knew that he wouldn’t let you live with that information.

Sure, you had been the one to report the sighting to the police which lead to them finding your poor neighbor and her husband’s body being found, but when they asked if you saw anything, you couldn’t speak. Yeonjun was there, looking at the scene from behind the tape with a few other civilians. He wasn’t there for a quick look at the scene though. He was there to make sure you didn’t speak.

You had your phone in hand, the number dialed without you even realizing when a gloved hand covered your mouth and the cool steel of a knife sent shivers down your spine when it was pressed against your neck. You knew it was Yeonjun. This time he didn’t even have the white mask covering his face, so when you looked up all you saw were his cold eyes.

“Such a shame. The pretty ones are always the ones with the biggest mouthes.”

“A sixth victim found this morning in her home only two doors down from a previous victim. We are asking for your help to find this man and bring him to Justice. The reward is still set in place for any valid and useful information. Please contact us with any leads. Help us keep you safe.”

I'd say that second one. You fear of this happening again. And this is what makes me think that all this made me actually weaker.

✠ Happy Wednesday everyone. The week is almost over, how are you holding up? Did you learn anything new? Discover anything interesting? Earlier in the week, I came across the quote above and it really had an impact on me. The quote inspired me so much, in fact, that I sketched three different drawings to capture its symbolism. Most of you have probably heard the saying “ignorance is bliss”, right? What an awful saying that is. When you live your life with a blindfold on, how exactly does that benefit you?

The truth is, it doesn’t. Sometimes it may seem easier to live that way. We are all guilty of having moments like that. But my challenge for you is to try taking the blindfold off for a while. Take a step back and actually see the life you are living. Is it the life that you want? Is it the life you deserve? That is what I’ve been contemplating the past couple days. Below are the thoughts I had jotted down in my journal. I urge you to take the time to read them and take them to heart. As always, take care.

I don't understand why we all hang on to something we know we're better off letting go of. It's like we're scared to lose what we don't even really have. Some of us say we'd rather have something than absolutely nothing, but the truth is, to have it halfway is harder than not having it at all.

Psychology studies have found that when you are ignored by a person whose attention means the most to you, the reaction in your brain will be similar to physical pain. And that's why we stay longer than we should. Because it hurts to watch something you love transform into something you should hate. We sit and wait for it to return to it's original state, in complete denial, as we ignore the fact that what we see was always there and what is now, will always be.

We question the good and accept the bad. We'll walk away from something because it's too good to be true yet we'll hold onto something bad as if we don't deserve better. Sometimes you need to stop seeing the good in people and start seeing what they show you. A person who values you would never put themselves in a position to lose you.

What's the point in loving someone who has proven to be incapable of loving you the correct way? There’s no logical explanation for why you should continue to fight for someone who refuses to make an effort for you. Love is so simple and yet we choose to complicate it with our deep feelings for people who have no depth. Love is so simple and yet we complicate it by falling for those who aren't strong enough to catch us. If they loved you, they'd be there. If they missed you, they'd show up. If you were happy, you wouldn't even relate to these words but you do. If you want love, you have to stop loving someone who refuses to love you.

Holding on is believing that there's only a past; letting go is knowing that there's a future. Letting go is the willingness to change your beliefs in order to bring more peace and joy into your life instead of holding onto beliefs that only bring pain and suffering. Closure will only happen after you accept that letting go and moving on is more important than projecting a fantasy of what the relationship could have been like.

So don't chase. You must recognize your worth and know that you don’t deserve to only be met halfway. If they won't match your effort, they don't want to be in your life. Do yourself a favor and learn how to walk away. When a connection starts to fade, learn how to let it go. When a person starts to mistreat you, learn how to move on to something and someone better. Don't waste your energy trying to force something that isn't meant to be. Because, the truth is, for every one person who doesn't value you there are tons more waiting to love you better. So do better.

Remember — No matter how long you have traveled in the wrong direction, you can always turn around.

"Jangmi?" The hybrid jumps in surprise when a voice sounds behind her, "hey, it's okay, it's just me." Jongin says as he comes to sit beside her, the nightclub thriving with the usual busy crowd on a Saturday night. "I haven't seen you since-"

"Can I stay with you?" She asks suddenly, catching Jongin by surprise but he nods immediately. "The police won't do anything, they said other than blocking my number and getting a restraining order, there is no threat..." Her voice cracks slightly so Jangmi tilts her head back to keep the tears from falling, she can't ruin her make-up this early in the night.

"Maybe Irene can help." Jongin looks up at the private room of the woman he just mentioned, wondering if he should go up regardless of Jangmi's answer.

Shaking her head, she finishes the last of her drink, cringing at the burning taste of alcohol down the back of her throat. "No, I don't want to bother people. If I stay with you, he won't be able to find me and eventually, he'll move on." She knows that isn't really likely. The type of man who is hunting her is relentless and won't give up until he has what he wants in his possession and all she's really doing now is playing hard to get.

Prolonging the inevitable, in his eyes.

She heads off to the room that's been booked for her, the only one for the night before Jongin is even able to say anything, left sitting at the bar with his mouth open before sighing and looking over at San and Chan. Everyone knows. Even if Jangmi hasn't explicitly told anyone what's been going on, everyone knows that something is happening because her usual bubbly personality has become more reserved and she looks like she's ready to run at any chance she has.

Her client hasn't arrived yet, not unusual, so she begins to set up the room the way that she likes it. She likes to provide more relaxing dances, hypnotising and sensual rather than erotic, something to make the client feel at ease. While some of the dancers like leaving their clients hot and heavy, she likes them to feel like all the stress has left their bodies - which strangely works. As she lights incense to help complete the mood, the door begins to open. "He-" Her greeting cuts off as she comes face to face with the man who she's been running from.

A cruel grin stretches across thin lips as Jangmi's eyes widen in fear. "Hello, pretty fox~" His voice makes her stomach turn as she resists the urge to throw up. "So, this is where you've been hiding? Right under our noses."

Nobody can hear her scream, nobody can save her from his hands grabbing her biceps and pulling her close, nobody would even know what's going on unless San happened to check the cameras to make sure things were alright.

"P-P-Please." She stutters, her eyes clenched shut and body completely stiff as he tries to move her but her feet are frozen to the floor. "You had to let me go."

"I didn't have a choice since you ran to that bitch and made a deal. Whored yourself out to escape me? I'm surprised they accepted such damaged goods but who wouldn't? You were always pretty to have sitting on my lap." His hand reached for the door when it burst open and everything happened so fast.

One minute, Jangmi was held so tightly that she was sure she would bruise and then the next minute she was pulled into a warm embrace while Jongin held the man up against the wall by the throat.

"Stubborn little fox, hm?" Irene's comforting voice whispers in her ear while her small hand caresses the back of her head. "You shouldn't have carried this burden alone," Jangmi whines softly, tears freely falling once her body realises she is safe. "I told you I'd protect you, didn't I? I look after my people." She nods while Irene keeps comforting her, nearly missing the deep growls coming from the werewolf who had his hand around the man's throat.

Not that Irene really seemed to be in a rush to deal with him.

"I'm sorry..." Jangmi begins, only to have Irene hush her, not needing an apology. Sometimes it's hard to open up, especially when those you trust can easily destroy you. That has always been Jangmi's biggest fear, after years of abuse, she was afraid that history would repeat and those she trusted would betray her so she hides away a lot of things in order to protect herself.

The less that people know, the safer she is.

"Come now," Irene wipes away Jangmi's tears and ushers her to the door, "I think you deserve some ice cream and chocolate, hm?" Jongin looks over his shoulder at his boss, her head giving him the subtlest of nods before closing the door behind her and leaving him alone with the man who has been stalking his best friend.

"Looks like you're all mine~" He grins, eyes shining gold. With the music in the club, nobody will hear his screams.
