Janequeo (late 1500s, Chile): The Rebel Spain Never Caught
Tons more info at the main site entry (click here) - but real quick, as for the “did this happen” question: Chile’s most celebrated historian says no. But this whole story is a bit odd - it comes from the Spanish, and the Mapuche seemingly don’t have much of a history of it, at least not one I could find. Nevertheless, Janequeo’s story illustrates the very real indomitable spirit of the Mapuche. They’re an society in some incredibly horrific circumstances, like the Dakota Access Pipeline protests except increasingly escalated and militarized for decades. They have a very small English language footprint, but the Mapuche Nation Twitter account seems to be a good place to start.
Art notes after the cut.

Postgame | Tonight there was just water on the floor. It didn’t looked like there was any champagne bottles. I was wondering if there’s any significance behind that?
