There is a note of surprise in Louis' first words to Daniel (“You've grown old, Daniel.”). For all that Louis has observed Daniel from a distance over the years, despite his being so familiar with Daniel’s autobiography that he has fixated on minor details within (“There was an offhanded remark in your memoir about this dessert. I hope you don't mind.”) and can immediately find the page of a specific passage, Daniel’s mind is unfamiliar to Louis in a way he does not seem to expect. It is such a contrast to Louis’ letter to Daniel, where he writes as though the pair aged together (“The passage of time and the frailties that accompany it have provided me perspective. And I suspect the same might be for you, as well.”), describing their previous attempt at the interview failing due to a shared “boyish youth”, even though Louis was almost a century old when it took place. Time does not mean the same to an immortal being, and the series leaves it ambiguous whether a vampire and a human can ever really understand that difference.

Red on Maroon A 16-page IWTV (2022) fancomic about the vampire Armand and journalist Daniel Molloy visiting the Mark Rothko retrospective in 2024 Paris. Content mentions & warnings: The comic depicts Daniel’s internalized ableism. Rothko’s suicide is acknowledged but not discussed in detail. There’s angst, talk about kink and lots of fluff. Louis is mentioned as well as Daniel’s daughters. Marius is not named but is hinted at. The comic is set up in post-Dubai-interview time and based on my knowledge about s1 of AMC’s IWTV with sprinkles of book canon. Some notes about the comic below:

The Rothko retrospective can be visited until 2nd of April of 2024 in Louis Vuitton Foundation. I visited the place in January, so the comic’s surroundings are a mix of memories and some image searches, but in no way fully accurate. Since visiting Paris next week is probably not an option for most people, the foundation has a very cool free app, where you can listen to an audio guide about Rothko and paintings in the exhibition.  I listened to a lot of Morton Feldman’s Rothko Chapel -album while making this. So put it in playing in the background if you’re into that sort of thing. Link to the playlist on youtube

Since I am Finnish and I found out that one of LVF’s first exhibition had some Finnish painter’s work, ofc I had to include them… Page 14 has Schjerfbeck’s “Dancing Shoes”  and Gallen-Kallela’s “Kullervo Cursing”.

Ok finally some headcanon stuff: in my head, while writing this comic, I imagined Daniel having accepted the dark gift from Armand, but both of them wanting him to live as a human as long as possible to enjoy the benefits of a… mortal body. :’D Since, you know, vampirism is forever anyway, so why not enjoy the variety of bodily fluids, body heat, aches and weirdness of aging? While having a chronic illness is shitty, his life is not, and while his disability marginalizes him, there’s a perspective there, a person living and enjoying things, allowed to take space and feel his thoughts develop from these changes (that also affect over 6 million people around the world with Parkinson’s).

After finishing the comic I am not so sure if Daniel is going to be turned into a vampire after all. So your guesses are as good as mine, would love to hear your suggestions, hehe!

I wish we knew more about Daniel’s daughters! I just came up with something here because I wanted to draw them and wanted to see their dynamics as a family.

I have now read the Devil’s Minion part from Queen of the Damned as a separate short story and appreciate the TV show’s changes to Daniel even more. I can’t wait for S2…..

This comic is based on my partner's brilliant fanfiction. They wished to remain anonymous, but the story idea was theirs. I am just a humble servant.

Neither of us speak English as our first language, so of course after finishing I see a hundred things to tweak in the dialogue... but decided to leave it the way it is, for now. So! If you, dear reader, find clunky sentences and weird mistakes and would possibly like to help us in the future, send me an ask. ;-)

My partner said that banging in an elevator while listening T.Rex on repeat is a plothole because they couldn't do that, but I disagree. They would find a way.

Idk where Louis is - probably left Dubai. Daniel got some of his memories back, not sure how yet. Lots of inspiration was taken from GrayGiantess' fics, but this work is not based on them (just an encouragement for everyone to read them).

I got into this ship, like, less than 100 hours ago. I got possessed by a demon, blinked, and suddenly I made a comic. I have seen the first season of the IWTV 2022 adaptation and everything else I know about the canon is hearsay, whispers in the forest and an Eldritch demon telling me its tales. Consider me as a little fledgling.

And finally, the songs in order by T.Rex are: Get it on, 20th Century Boy, Free Angel and Cosmic Dancer. Rest in piece, Marc Bolan, and thank you for everything.

i can be more specific — it reminds me of angsty Lesmand and angsty Loustat, a post-break-up Loustat kind of song. with a rockstar core + back and forth accusations. not quite sure, but suspicious enough to submit it

i may have an opinion on this (also, i love polls and asking people their opinion)

this scene is still, for me, one of the most unhinged scene from the first season. i am gagged every time i rewatch it. the very setting is insane. every sentence Louis utters is worse than the sentence before. and Daniel's and Armand's lines on top of that are... something. and it's actually important, plot wise and character wise (the whole chronicling a suicide thing + Armand's seemingly infinite supply of blood, etc). it's fucking loaded and i would never engage in some rap battle with any of them — specially Louis — because i'd be destroyed. instant. period.

“what's he tastes like?” explosions. cries in the street. dead on the floor.

“you were thinking it.” devasted. struck by lighting. buried 6 feet underground, never to crawl back. i'd beg him to erase my own existence from my own mind.

“honey and pineapple.” mouth wide open from shock. gobsmacked. gagged. couldn't believe he actually sucked off that guy right in front of me and had the audacity to make me feel responsible. watching a car crash in slow motion. etc

i get that the trailer has A LOT to offer so we can't talk about everything, so that's why we didn't talk too much about this part - but now. can we come back to that

ok, Armand can't be talking about Louis - he still is in love, that much is clear. so it's either Lestat or Daniel. (could be Marius i suppose, but very unlikely, unless they're diving into Armand's backstory, which i doubt.)

Daniel. or Lestat. omg. either way it's insane. do you realise what we're going to have. i don't. oh my lord

it. it's the same shirt, right. all lights variations considered, it looks like the same shirt. and i can't help but think that he is very emotional here because it's something hitting close to his heart.

usually, Daniel (2022) is reckless and knows how to deal with the vampires. i think it's because he learned something a bit too much to process, because it's about him (probably devil's minion).

or he discovered what happened to Claudia

anyway, i'm leaning towards the "i was in love" being about devil's minion because of that, but what's tipping the balance is barely nothing...

EDIT: i changed my mind again, it's probably either Lestat or editing imo, and it's just Daniel wearing the same two outfits during the interview messing with me

guys, the true question is why the fuck Daniel Molloy is talking to this guy

they seem to get along, and they are talking about Armand and (probably) Louis being active threats, so it could be in Dubai still; why on earth would David, or Marius, talk to Daniel — or more accurately, why on earth Daniel would be willing to talk, and probably trust a guy in that setting?

i have some theories but still, what the fuck

just expanding on some things here

maybe it's right after the second interview: it turned out bad when Louis remembered, Daniel thinks he shouldn't come back because of Armand and is probably ignorant still about the devil's minion thing

maybe it's at the beginning of season 2 (most likely) and Daniel is talking to a friend mostly unrelated to the vampires if it's David, to a friend who lied to him about being involved if it's Marius ; etc

if it's Marius, the way Daniel's open here still is makes me think they are... friends or colleagues of sorts? i am quite convinced it's from episode 1 or 2; it would mean Marius befriended Daniel previously — and well, i can't help but wondering whether it might be because Armand asked him to

if it's David, it would be extremely funny that they are just two friends (??) and Daniel just called him at some point like “dude, i need a drink and a sane man to give me some insight because you won't believe the kind of interview i'm on these days”, and David just Listens™ to Daniel and gives him actually good advice

or Daniel is really desperate and starts to talk to this random guy who turns out to be Marius (the vampire who TURNED ARMAND) or David (an investigator about paranormal things...?)
