"Quite the opposite, actually! Callie is the name I was, um, hatched with. Figuratively. I had to go through a series of trials to survive first, of course, like all trolls." [ cue laughter trying its best not to sound nervous. she is remembering her troll culture right, isn't she? ] "I'd just like to request that you not inquire as to my last name, it's... a bit embarrassing. Candy red, you say? Intriguing... it's a colour I'm not unfamiliar with, I happen to have an, ah, acquaintance with a similar mutation!"
[ as strange as it is to be examined like this, it isn't necessarily uncomfortable. this troll seems to be perfectly benign, a curious being much like herself. she timidly ventures to reach up and twirl a lock around her own finger, to help the investigation. ]
"Oh, pish posh! As much value as our society may hold on it, strength in its traditional sense isn't everything. I'm sure you're quite powerful in your own way, and if you haven't found that way yet, well, that's just part of being young, isn't it? I'm experiencing a similar feeling myself, to tell the truth."
‟ You flatter me, dear! Callie is a rather cute name, even if it is just a nickname as I assume it is. And it really is all natural? Remarkable. My friend- if I could call him that, has a rather strange genetic mutantation with his blood. Candy red. ”
She has begun to stand on her tiptoes to observes the pure locks, a simple study to see if it was that much different from her own. Aranea wouldn’t dare touch it, only observe until this troll became more comfortable. That would be a strange thing to ask nonetheless.
‟ Ah, they are just blood colors. I suppose it will only lead to more fights and repeats of bloody wars, pun not intended, if I began to act higher than others. I’m actually quite weak compared to others of my caste. ”
A light laugh bubbled up.

[ of all the reactions she had been expecting, this had certainly not been one of them. the complete disregard for her alien appearance is met with no small amount of surprise, followed by an even greater amount of relief. a small giggle even escapes her, purely from the force of unspoken gratitude. ]
"You're quite welcome! I wouldn't want you to remain myopic if I could easily help remedy the situation." [ but, callie, you were just thinking — ] "And while the offer is most appreciated, I'm not sure what exactly I'd do with the new knowledge. Oh! You will have to excuse me, where are my manners. Call me Callie, love, it's a pleasure to meet you!"
[ and a dainty grey hand is extended to be shaken. that is a human custom, isn't it? certainly the other girl isn't expecting, for example, an embrace of some sort... well, too late now. ]
&&. With no shortage of appreciation for the stranger’s kind gesture, Aislinn fumbled around with her glasses for a beat before finally, by some stretch of a miracle, managing to slide them onto her face without gracelessly jabbing herself in the eye.
❝ Ah wow, tha’s much better. Thank ye! ❞
It wasn’t with fear or revulsion, how she reacted to the other’s odd appearance— in fact, Aislinn hardly seemed to react at all, instead opting to let out a hearty laugh at the grey, horned girl’s remark.
❝ Well, I dunno if jest humans wear ’em, but I certainly can tell ye how they work if y’like. S’not all tha’ complex! ❞

[ well, the intruder certainly doesn't seem hostile — quite the opposite, in fact. a quick inspection reveals the item in question right nearby, and she picks the frames up delicately to place them in the girl's hand. ]
"There you are, love. I've never quite understood how placing glass over your eyes helps you see, but then again, I've never worn them. Maybe it's a human thing?"
[ fancy shoes shuffle awkwardly against each other as calliope further inspects the new arrival. it was only a matter of time before she could see her face... at least they looked similar, hopefully the human wouldn't be too scared. then again... insecurity quickly takes hold, and she's all too quickly thinking that maybe it would've been better to stay behind the curtain. a humanoid alien was still an alien, after all, and who knew how this normal human (or, seemingly normal — she realizes that assumptions are being made) would react? ]
&&. With a muffled little groan the young woman pushed herself up into a kneeling position, blindly feeling around for the glasses that had tumbled off of her face during her little… trip. Was this going to become a recurring theme? She certainly hoped not. Just as Aislinn’s fingers were about to brush against the thick plastic frames, a sudden voice splitting the silence caused her to stop short. Pale pink curls whipped about her head as she turned it one way, and then the other, looking for the source. At least it had been friendly; that in itself made the predicament that much less vexing. Aislinn could fathom the fact that without her glasses she was as good as blind, but… she hadn’t recalled it being this dark just before she fell over. Maybe she’d hit her head and passed out, and this was some sort of surreal dream.
❝ I… uh— I’m jest fine, but… did ye happen ta see where me glasses went? Can’t see a bloody thing without ‘em. ❞

"It sounds... interesting. Then again, all I've ever known is raw meat and candy, so I suppose my frame of reference is a little limited. Perhaps I shall, if I can get the chance — it's always good to have new experiences, don't you agree?"

[ if it wouldn't have broken character, the girl would certainly have wiped the nervous sweat from her brow. the real troll in the room has rather piercing eyes, and it had seemed for a second that the jig was up. her own grey hand clasps the extended one, and shakes enthusiastically. ]

"Aranea... what a lovely name! While, ah, yes, this hue is all natural, that certainly doesn't mean I'm anything special. And bluebloods are nothing to be sniffed at! I rather think all trolls are to be celebrated, regardless of caste or genetic mutation... But that's just me. What brings you around these parts, dear?"
[ the cerulean troll seems quite friendly, really, and the tension in calliope's shoulders begins to evaporate quickly. ]
‟ I thought… ah, nevermind. perhaps I need to get my glasses fixed. ”

‟ I have had them for a while now, ha! About your hair, was it born like that or did you dye it? Perhaps if you were born with it, you have a genetic mutantation. That would make you a very special troll indeed, not just another boring blueblood like myself. ”
She has completely wiped the memory of the creature from her mind, musing it as too many hours bent over a book, reading about fictional creatures in other universes. Maybe she should get a proper nighst rest tonight. Aranea extends her hand for a shake, hoping to resolve the earlier spat.
‟ I am Aranea Serket, a pleasure to meet you Callie! ”

[ what is all this commotion in her strange little spiral world? changing her guise not a moment too soon, calliope hesitantly pulls back green velour to see a human girl splayed out none too gracefully on whatever passes for the ground. natural disinclination to reveal herself grapples with the urge to help for a few seconds, and the latter wins out. footsteps approach the prone form at a trot. ]
"My goodness gracious, dearie, are you quite all right? Here, let me help you up. I'm sure sudden changes in location can be a mite disorienting!"

[ well, that had been entirely without warning. a bit rude, she thinks, to intrude on someone without even giving them time to prepare. hopefully, the other female had caught but a glimpse of her dark green form from behind, for without seeming to change at all, the cherub's body is now much greyer and more normal-looking as she turns. ]

"I, ah, I'm quite sure I don't know what you mean, love. I'm just a run of the mill troll, quite like yourself... Admittedly, my hair is probably much lighter than the norm, but that's no reason to be shocked, eh? It's an honest mistake. My name's Callie, pleasure to meet you!"
[ a smooth recovery, in her mind at least. with any luck, it'd be enough to fool the curious troll. ]
▌▌uuraeus ▌▌

‟ Huh? You don’t appear to be a troll or a human.. what are you? I mean, if that doesn’t sound too rude! Oh dear, that sounded horribly rude, um, I’m sorry. I’m just a little curious about you. I’ve never seen your kind before, I might have but in a more advanced or reduced form. ”
