Me watching Summer make another bad decision...

So I agree with everything you said and I clocked this from season 2 and immediately decided to not watch the show again. My exact words were "If i watch summertime again next year i will change my name"...the way they had her running after him only for him to be vaguely interested but yet still have feelings for the other girl...i was over it...
Came into the tag to see if my predictions for S3 was right and happy to know I didnt waste my time this year watching it...still sucks tho!
Well it finally happened. It happened when I watched TVD for the first time but I watched that show 3 years after in went off air so there was no point to scream into the void about what happened to Bonnie, even though it comes up in discourse every six months.
Summertime on Netflix blatantly deceive Black viewers by having a Black romantic lead of a show literally named after her, for her not to get a romantic ending. Season 2 was an entire rollercoaster of emotions between the main character, Summer, and Alessandro. They both went back to each other over the course of the show, after their mutual break up, after he left for another country to pursue his dream, which Summer supported. They never fell out of love which is why the events of s2 made more sense, but the way Summer kept throwing herself at Ale throughout the season for him to dismiss her was hella cringe. Her character development never really showed growth and at the end she was manipulated by her replacement, when given the opportunity to start a serious relationship with Ale.
I watched the trailer for s3 and immediately knew that SummerAle would not be endgame based on how they positioned this potential new love interest for Summer and Ale’s destructive and flighty behavior. But watching how the season played out was enraging.
Although they developed a friendship, Summer was shown to still be pining for Ale, while he continued to blow with the wind. She even encouraged Ale to be with her replacement even though she was in love with him. I don’t want to rehash the entire plot, I just want to say how irritating it is that the writers made the decision to make Summer seem desperate for Ale’s love and attention again and not the other way around! She had already went through that s2 and it should’ve never played out like that. It’s lazy writing and anti-Black woman af. She couldn’t even give Luca a chance because she was still hung up on Ale. Her entire agency and ability to be a fully functional person was wrapped up in this white man who appeared to not want her in a romantic way anymore.
What I had hoped would’ve been a time jump at the end to show that even though both romantic leads went to have separate lives in their younger years, which is realistic and normal, they were able to find their way back to each other. I think the show played with that but it clearly gave the white love interest the romantic ending and Summer had to be satisfied with the platonic love of her friends. 😒
These type of narratives are played out and stereotypical to ideas about Black women as romantic love interests in media. Especially when they are opposite someone white. Ale should’ve left alone, because that was clearly what he needed as a character and as a person, but no he got to be happy and in love, while Summer just got to be content… Same shit happened to Marina in Bridgerton, same shit happened to Nadia (I know she’s not Black but still) in Elite, hell they did it to MJ in No Way Home… I’m so fucking tired!
This is why we go so hard for Black women when they get casted in these roles with the opportunity for a romantic storyline that is shown in a healthy, respectful, where feelings are mutual and reciprocated, and a happy ending because that’s what we deserve. I need more Black writers to get the opportunity to tell these stories on bigger platforms. I’m distraught and annoyed and tired. *screams in frustrated Black Woman*

She is honestly a horrible person...but idk what that makes me because I find myself continually rooting for her anyway....
I just finished Industry... and I’m unsure. Am I supposed to think Harper isn’t a piece of shit?? I understand the idea of a flawed character but she was truly vile through so much of the show. I guess that was her whole point about ‘not being a victim’

I really hate you “save a bum” ass hoes. Stop putting the responsibility of saving black men on black women. We’re human beings. I know y’all tend to forget that be we are! Leave black women alone. Stop expecting us to carry and maintain deadweight

Girl any show on Netflix with a "diverse" cast period...lmao and not lets forget our favourite token "black" Hollywood girls Amandla and Yara...I love them but I have PTSD from them being casted in roles meant for monoracial black girls.
*a movie/tv show that markets itself as representational of Blackness, Black life or centred around a Black character*
Me, seeing that the cast is largely composed of the same 9 mixed race actors/actresses that hollywood likes to recycle and employ for narratives related to Black people/or simply when studios want the diversity tick but want to keep the production as white as possible:

I definitely agree with your take on this like 100%. her character did such a complete 180. It was honestly so hard watching her storyline in season 2. I was just thankful that by the end of it she seemed more focused on herself and more inclined to just stay in her lane. But seriously, there are alot of Ludde and Felicia fans and the quickest way to get a character hated is for said character to come between a main 'ship' I was so worried about the blacklash her character was receiving in Sweden but thankfully in the tags her alot of people seemed to be team Amie.
That storyline was really stupid when you think of it though because at no point did Amie have feelings for Ludde. She slept with him and suddenly these feelings just arise from no where, there was literally no pretext lmao. Definitely lazy writing.
With the storyline 100% agree again. It was only in season 3 I can say that I think Amie's character had more of a complex storyline especially in relation to the other seasons. Also I will never not be angry that so many people were forgiven so quickly but Amie was the one who had to take that stain all the way to season 3. And i will once again like to point out that Felicia was a trash friend to Amie in season 1. She is literally the definition of boy crazy. The type that drops her friends on a dime for a guy.
i agree, i don’t dislike klara either! however, i thought it would be a lot more poignant if she spent season 2 trying to fix things with amie rather than starting a whole new relationship, especially because she made it seem like amie’s friendship was so important to her in season 1. in general i hate the idea that the proximity to a man was the thing that made her more likeable.
I think it's fair that Klara didn't really put much effort into fixing her friendship with Amie. It seems like a lot of people gloss over the fact that Amie went behind Felicia's back and made out with Ludde, and it's totally understandable why you wouldn't want to be best friends with someone like that. Yes, Felicia and Ludde had just had a pretty bad fight, but to my knowledge they weren't officially broken up. Even if Ludde thought they were, it's not exactly tactful of Amie to make a move on him right after it happened. Amie was the one who led him into the room and seemed to be the one who initiated it. They were both in the wrong and what they did was incredibly hurtful to Felicia, and Amie isn't exactly the sweet and flawless person that people claim she is.
If Klara was the one who had led Ludde into that room and Amie was the one who filmed it, I'm sure people would hate Klara even more and argue that Amie was in the right for filming it so she could prove to Felicia that Ludde had been cheating. Amie is a fan favorite, and that's why she (according to fans) shouldn't have to face any consequences despite kissing her best friend's boyfriend and then following him around when they were broken up and kissing him again. Not to mention the fact that she kept insisting on it and even called Ludde later on to confess that she was "in love" with him, despite knowing he was still in love with Felicia. She has no respect for Felicia at all. And yet people actually get mad at Felicia for lashing out when she's the one who was betrayed, cheated on, and publically embarrassed. How do you think Felicia should act? She lost the trust of her boyfriend and her best friend in one night but she gets called immature for being upset.
I always see people putting a lot of blame on Klara because they like Amie as a character more and because of the way Klara posted the video. Yes, Klara should've deleted that video when Sara told her to (she shouldn't have filmed it in the first place), but she actually hesitated on posting it until she was in a really bad place and felt hurt by Amie implicating that Klara wasn't a real friend. In front of a whole crowd of people, to add. Klara obviously wasn't thinking when she posted that video — she was upset and acted rashfully, and it's clear that she later regretted how she had posted the video. Klara even apologized to Felicia and she did take responsibility. Unlike Amie, it seems, who we never see actually trying to apologize.
Klara posted the video to hurt Amie (who frankly was also in the wrong) and Klara shouldn't be the only one to apologize. It seems like Klara doesn't regret exposing Amie for what she did either, just that she regrets how she posted it publically and how it hurt Felicia. Klara acknowledges that it could've been done more tactfully. It was pretty obvious Amie and Ludde weren't planning on coming clean anytime soon either, which absolutely wasn't fair to Felicia who was blissfully unaware of the situation and genuinely thought she'd found happiness and friends after everything she'd gone through in the US.
Also, for everybody who I see using this argument — Klara posting that video is not "underage pornography" and such a severe crime that she should go to prison for it. Sweden isn't America. You are mostly allowed to film whatever you want here and use the footage as you wish, but of course there are restrictions to this which are noted in Brottsbalken (BrB), the Swedish criminal code. Filming somebody without their knowledge on private property is a crime, but the severity of the punishment can vary.
If Ludde or Amie had actually reported Klara to the police for this (which they didn't), I believe the worst thing that would happen is that Klara's parents would have to pay a fine. I should also mention that only one in five reports of offensive photography lead to criminal charges, and a lot of them involve nudity. What Klara did is definitely not as severe in comparison. She just filmed a bear and a lobster making out.
Anyway, I'm getting off-topic. I'd like to add that her getting into a relationship wasn't the only thing that contributed to her becoming more likable. Klara was more mature in season 2, took responsibility for her actions, told Felicia when she believed Jack might be cheating on her, helped out her dad when his company went bankrupt and stayed by his side when he had his mental breakdown, stood up to her mother when she said that Klara should just leave her father and take the easy way out, showed concern when seeing that Felicia was still taking drugs instead of shaming her for it this time, and rushed home immediately upon seeing the missed calls from her dad. I think she'd still be likable even if you removed Elias from the equation.

I made these notes whiles watching Eagles Svt to make a post later to sum up my thoughts on season 3. Howeverr, I just decided to post the notes as randomly as I made them because organizing and elaborating will take too much time.
1. Everyone keeps giving in to Felicia's tantrums like she's the only one with problems
2. Why take him back but throw the fact that he cheated on you in his face every time yall fight (Every other argument Felicia was throwing the cheating in his face tbh)
3. This girl needs to get a handle on her emotions
4. Ludde tries to open up to her she makes it about herself
5. Why did they let that asshole bait them into fighting *facepalm*
6. You're telling me they can't separate their emotions when a job needs to be done...it was clear he was baiting them and they fell into that trap hook line and sinker
7. Felicia keeps saying she forgives everyone and then she goes and be an asshole...I think she just needs help
8. What is up with Amie blaming her mom...I could understand if she genuinely did keep her away from her dad but the courts exist for a reason and her mom has always been there for her...it seems weird to take her dad's word over her mom
9. Ludde is so right...Felicia needs help...professional help and he can't give it to her...she needs to be okay with herself before she tries to be okay with someone else
10. The writers are forever painting Felicia as a victim and I'm honestly sick of it...yes her family needs to get her help but she also needs to admit she needs fucking help
11. She's like...I didn't know he'd do it...girl...girl...please (The guy whose name I don't even bother to remember revealing things about their lives to the press)
12. Ofc she tried to kill herself instead of taking some fucking responsibility (when you think about Felicia's track record with lack of accountability though, I wasn't exactly surprised by this)
13. It was so sweet seeing the three of them together even though it was under bad circumstances Them forgiving each other...the only thing they got right bro...my heart (In reference to Felicia/Klara/Amie making up)
14. Amie was the one to call Elias...that's so sweet (To tell them Felicia was okay)
15. I absolutely loved the new relationship we get to see with Elias and his dad (especially him opening up about loving someone to his dad)...even the dad trying to bond with Felicia at the beginning of the season was so nice to see.
16. Elias was not this confused about his feelings for Klara (It was so cute seeing him be so unsure as to what to do about his feelings for Amie)...that's how I know its real
17. The fact that he was so obvious when Klara came to speak with him while Amie was performing...literally could not keep his eyes off of her (Was smiling so hard here)
18. Amie helping Felicia at the club pissed me off...(yes it was the right thing to do but I still remember how Felicia did her at the party and unfortunately, I hold grudges).
19. I was happily surprised that Felicia was not a bitch to Amie when she showed up at her apartment (ngl I was on edge the whole time though..lol its was so funny to me how Amie was just trying to act like nothing's changed and she'd still go to Felicia when she had a problem)
