“I respect your drive, kid. And I understand. You want your money; you want the Wraith back; you want a bit of Van Eck’s hide—”
“No,” said Brekker, his voice part rasp, part growl. “When I come for Van Eck, I won’t just take what’s mine. I’ll carve his life hollow. I’ll burn his name from the ledger. There will be nothing left.”

There was something about Alina's ending that was frustratingly familiar and I just figured it out while watching The Pirates of the Caribbean.
Literally almost the same ending that pissed me off as a child. Picture it.
Barbossa is Baghra, essentially trains Elizabeth (Alina).
Jack is obvi Darkling.
Will is Mal.
Norrington(Dead Man's Chest) can be Nikolai.
Elizabeth and Jack had so much chemistry, challenged eachother, and could have ruled the seas. Granted, Sparrabeth is much less problematic than Darklina, but so forth.
Elizabeth and Will were safe together, childhood friends, but Elizabeth progressed into a more ruthless leader than she was when we meet her (probably due to learning from Barbossa), and this parallels much to Alina's progression as a character who became less and less worried about casualties, and doing what she had to.
Alina gave up sainthood (Elizabeth pirate king) and adventure and settled with Mal, which reminds me a lot of Elizabeth settling with Will after saying farewell to Jack.
Norrington reminds me of Nikolai because of his connection to Elizabeth, "Destinies intertwined but never joined." They could have been a good match, even nearly engaged, but circumstances weren't optimal (still lowkey ship both).
Overall, I'm still forever salty about both endings, but that's just my opinion.
Edit: and thinking about the fact that Will is immortal and is only able to come to shore once every ten years, so Elizabeth has like, 5 days with him at best and most of those she will have aged significantly.
