“An answer you couldn’t rely on your so-called friends or your dear Master Fung for.” A statement, not a question. A smug, self-satisfied tone laced his voice, like he had just won something. “I see.”

Omi tried his best to glower. “I… did not want to seem a fool to them– No, I merely did not want to waste their valuable time! Master Fung has lots to do! He is marshed!”

Swamped, he assumed. “Heh, of course… Ah, but don’t be afraid to be a fool, Omi. Wisdom isn’t found by those afraid to seek it out. You’d never learn anything that way. Refusing to ask questions is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because you fear answers. Seeking leads to knowledge, knowledge leads to strength, and I can give you both. And besides… I admire how the stubborn foolishness in the way you actively keep choosing to trust and respect your greatest enemy, no matter what your friends may feel about that. It’s quite cute. And that’s a sincere compliment. You can keep seeking me out for whatever those feckless monks at the temple can’t give you. We may be enemies for now, but you are still my student– you can ask anything of me. I am here to teach and guide you. But you know that. It’s why you keep coming to me, trusting me, time and time again, is it not? I’m the balm to all you may lack.”

“–Fine, in that case, you can tell me: where do babies come from.”
