Pride is a Protest
Who would’ve thought I could be here. Once that suicidal gay kid who can’t even accept the concept of LGBT, that outcast who’s been constantly deemed abnormal by many, and that little boy who’s whole life was spent in an internal battle of hate and acceptance – now have reached this far. It was once a question of why I was ever given life, why was I even born to suffer, and why of all people, I had to live this SIN. Entering UP brought so much opportunities for me, not just academically and socially, but it made me realize I had a reason to live. It was my first day in college, away from the toxicity of 17 years of my life on earth, that I finally accepted myself. I can still remember the feeling. It felt like taking blocks off my shoulder that hindered my breathing. Everything felt lighter from that point onward. In UP also was I able to find my purpose and that is to be among everyone who carries the same weight I did when I was a kid. It’s a different feeling when you know you’re part of something that addresses what you wish you never experienced. I am now facing this battle, but this time, I am one and not alone.

I came across a quote yesterday that were along the lines of “Even when you relapsed, it’s still progress.”
I found that quote very encouraging because I would often beat myself up over things that I couldn’t do (or the things I did). Going back to where you have started doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, at least you now have an idea where to go from there and how to go about it.
I guess this post is just another reminder to be a little kinder to yourself because you’re doing a good job.

We must always process our feelings. It is not dwelling on it but rather understanding why we feel the way we feel so we know what we could to remove or to enhance the feeling. Don’t be afraid to show and acknowledge any type of emotion!

You want to know the difference between a master and a beginner? The master has failed more times than the beginner has ever tried.
take the risk, dare to fail, it will pay off (via i-remember-there-was-mist)
Don’t let failure stop you from trying again! We may think that once we fail once that we will fail again. And we might but we may also succeed. Never let yourself think that failure is a bad thing. The best things in the world weren’t made in a day.

times have been difficult but my friends keep my head above water. love your friends guys! also don’t be afraid to ask help from them because they will always try their best to be there. I’m so lucky to have friends that understand me and I’m comfortable enough to ask help from. But I’m also thankful that our friendship has grown to be more mature throughout the years. Help we will always give to each other but understand sometimes help is not immediate. We are our eachother’s support system so we understand when someone isn’t in the right mindset to help. As my Psych 101 teacher told me, to help someone you have to be okay yourself.
daily reminder to treasure your friendships; dance like no one’s watching, get lost somewhere, sing your hearts out, travel the globe, eat mcdonalds at 2am while you’re all drunk, wish each other a lovely day, and simply just be happy and free :’)

APPRECIATION POST
I’m not one who would converse with GE classmates. I could be in a GE for a whole year and still not talk to anyone unless for a group reporting. Not because I feel superior but because I feel anxious meeting new people. This is why I’m so thankful for Choeli and Dylan because without them I probably wouldn’t be more open to my other classmates. It started with just asking each other what was happening when one was late then we became accountability partners where we really built a bond. We would chat each other and make kwento even if it’s not related to the project. We randomly share our day. They reminded me that not all groups have to be a hassle or just a requirement. So thank you Choeli and Dylan for making me believe in groups again chrt. But legit, thank you for this sem and for the fun conversations and the even more fun rants HAHA. Also special mention to Gail, Charm and Tetay who also helped me come out of my shell towards the end of the sem! Also to my other class mates who made my Psych 101 amazing. Of course, to Ma’am, thank you for going above and beyond. Thank you for hearing me out when I was lost. Thank you for being genuinely concerned for your students. Don’t worry I will take care of myself Ma’am. Thank you for reminding me about myself.

This post emphasizes the importance of sleep. Sleep is really important for you to be able to function well. But there are times where you would need to push yourself for a bit but obviously you still need to take care of yourself in other ways. I would like to thank Stat for the initiative of allowing the students to stay overnight in school in a airconditioned room. The council also brought food, drinks, and a printer! A lot of us also brought mattresses and blankets to share. Although, we sacrificed some of our sleep, we still tried to contain fatigue in any way possible. So to those who see no other way of achieving your goals asides from staying up, remember than losing sleep shouldn’t mean losing everything else as well. Eat, sit in a comfortable spot, don’t strain your eyes, stand up every once in a while, and TAKE BREAKS. Good luck to you (and me!!! Last 2 weeks!!!)

A little reminder to myself and everyone else.

I just got a partial breakdown of my grades in one of my majors and let me tell you: it wasn’t pretty. But I have still other requirements to focus on so I can’t just keep my head down. There will be bad days and even worse days than today but those make way for better days. Ang pagkakamali hindi dapat nagiging panakot kundi panturo. To all those struggling to finish their finals week, kapit! We don’t feel any pressure right now haha.
Waiting for your final grades to be posted. .

In normative social influence, we look at others because we use their behaviors as our “measuring sticks”. That’s fine, but you are also your own person. You’re doing fine
just be yourself, okay?
