Daniel could see the strain Miguel was carrying, both in his words and in the careful way he moved. He listened intently, his expression softening as he recognized the familiar weight of trying to recover while pushing against lingering pain. Memories of his own struggles with injury, the frustration of wanting to move forward without being held back by his body, surfaced for a moment, and he gave Miguel a small nod of understanding.
"Believe me, Miguel," Daniel said, his voice gentle but steady, "I know exactly what you're going through. It's tough when you want to jump right back in, but your body keeps reminding you to take it slow." He placed a reassuring hand on Miguel's shoulder. "And you’re right—it could have been much worse, but you’ve made it through to this point. That’s something to be proud of."
Miguel’s request to work through things together didn’t just surprise Daniel; it moved him. Miguel trusted him enough to want his guidance in such a vulnerable part of his recovery. "I'd be glad to go through it with you," Daniel replied, giving Miguel an encouraging smile. "We can work on strengthening and pacing ourselves, together. Slow and steady wins this race, Miguel. You’re not alone in this."
𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿, some actual peace time in an extremely tense situation that had felt like it was ongoing and would never end. except it sort of had. miguel knew that as much as he wanted to act like he was completely one hundred percent okay, he knew he wasn't, that his back was almost a constant worry on his mind. he would do 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 to help it improve and get himself in a better place, maybe that was why he wanted to talk to mr larusso due to him also having an injury that still bothered him today. he nodded his head at mr larusso's advice, " i think you're right. i need to do something, i'm lucky i didn't really mess it up that night, " miguel admitted, knowing it could've been so much worse for him than just the dull ache that seemed to never go away. he knew that slowing down was something that he 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 to do, especially if he didn't want to go back to that place of being unable to use his legs, " would you - would you mind going through it with me? i would ask sensei lawrence but i know you get what i'm sorta going through, "

Daniel felt his heart swell as Sam spoke, her words wrapping around him like a warm embrace he hadn’t realized he needed. The pride he had in her was boundless; she was strong, resilient, and had come so far from that nervous girl at the All Valley. Watching her now, standing taller and more self-assured, was a reminder of why he started Miyagi-Do in the first place—not just to teach karate, but to help her and others like her find strength within themselves.
He took a deep breath, his gaze steady as he looked at his daughter. "Sam, you've already made me proud. Just seeing how you’ve handled everything this past year—learning from every challenge, refusing to give up—that’s what it means to be a champion. It’s not about winning or losing; it’s about showing up with everything you’ve got."
As he spoke, he saw her smile, and the worries he’d held for her melted away. For a moment, it was just the two of them, sharing a quiet understanding, the kind he often felt when his own sensei, Mr. Miyagi, believed in him unconditionally. “Whatever happens , you've already won in my book. And just like you said… we’ll handle whatever comes our way, together.”
@valleyschamp : my path wasn’t a straight line. and yours is still being written. netflix's cobra kai ; always accepting.
𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗱, he was always wanting her to do her best and was proud of her no matter what. neither of them were perfect, this last year or so had 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 that, but one thing was clear to her now more than ever, sam could do anything she set her mind to as long as her dad believed in her. she was surprised that she didn't feel nervous about the sekai taikai presentation tomorrow, this was her chance to 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗺 herself from what happened at the all valley, to prove to herself that she could do it and she knew no matter what happened, her dad would be there and would be proud of her. sam smiles as he speaks, not feeling any pressure like she had at the last all valley despite everything that this meant for them and the dojo, " i know. no matter what happens, it's what is meant to happen and we will handle it, " she admits, knowing there was no way she would be able to do any of this without him and if anything, all she wanted to do tomorrow was make him proud.

Daniel’s laugh came easily, the warmth of it filling the small space between them. Ali hadn’t lost her touch—she knew just how to jab at his pride while showing concern, and he’d missed that. He leaned back, hands slipping into his pockets as he tilted his head at her. “Oh, you’re really playing the doctor card on me now, huh?” he teased, grinning. “All those years of bruises and bumps, and now my joints are apparently ‘past their prime’? You’re brutal, Ali.”
But he knew there was truth to it. Between the karate tournaments, training the kids, and that last bit of trouble with Cobra Kai, his body was catching up with him, and he was feeling it more often than he cared to admit. His throat still felt sore for Silver's attack and the last fight proven that a crane kick should only be used as a last resource.
“Guess I’d better start listening to Doctor Mills, then,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “Besides, I wouldn’t want to let you down after you went to all the trouble of coming back to the Valley. And I’m not just talking about the moving boxes. Just… it’s good to have you back, Ali.”
oh he thought he was sharp, and she was going to give him hell for it. surely he knew her well enough by now to have seen that coming. ❛ i think doctor trumps sensei in this moment, ❜ she countered, giving his side a playful jab. ❛ after your latest wild adventure, i’m telling you you better take care of those joints of yours or else they’ll give out on you. ❜ she’d seen enough patients to know it to be true. especially with his history of injury, she expected him to be extra careful. ❛ oh that’s the only reason, huh? ❜ a roll of her eyes followed, though her smile remained. ❛ oh i heard all about it. i forgot how quickly word gets around out here. ❜ surprisingly, she had missed it. she was happy to be back and even happier to be able to spend time finding herself again. ❛ thanks for offering to help with the moving process. i promise i’ll be gentle on you. ❜

"You know, when my father died... I spent a lot of time thinking I wasn't such a great son. Like, maybe I could've listened a little more... or spent some more time with him, together. I felt so guilty, you know, like, he did everything for me, and I didn't do anything for him. And then one day I realized I did the greatest thing for him before he died. I was there with him... and I held his hand... and I said goodbye."
imagine being a child and thinking all of this.

the one thing i have gripes with is johnny relates to tory through her grief being marked by anger while forgetting the target of that anger (through the fight, not consciously) was daniel's own daughter who could've been seriously injured. and johnny while i understand grief of losing a parent, he was an adult who lost his mother and proceeded to make a series of decision on that grief that have consequences to this day.
for this, i think who can relate best to her is daniel, who like tory, lost his father at a young age (and likely to illness to) who we know, canonically thought he was not a good enough son and wanted to do more for his father. that's what tory is feeling now, that she has to win because is the one thing she can do for her mother now.
