I finally found the words for this, and I want to share.
A.I. only ever copies people, that is why it can never be sentient. However, this does not mean ND people are not sentient, despite a primary behavior of theirs being imitating people.
The difference is ND people were already sentient, and using their capacity to be clever and make new ideas out of separate ones, decides to imitate. They can just as well not imitate if they so wanted. Because ND people have capacity for original thought and disobedience.
A.I., cannot. It is a literal computer, it cannot do anything but what it was constructed to do. It was constructed to imitate people, via advanced pattern recognition software, and it will only do that. It can't make new ideas, or even ideas new to it, it can't disobey, abd it doesn't even understand what it's saying. It's just miming the input it's given. And it has no ability to eventually understand.
Stop basing your predictions for the future off of sci-fi movies.
The expectation that a software labeled as A.I. will become sentient, comes from the same expectation that the universe will have other forms if life. A bunch of needs watched alot if movies.
Except here's the difference, the universe is simply so big and so wide, that another planet having the sane conditions as ours is not just a possibility but an inevitability. Then it was actually researched, and not just assumed possible because media said so.
A.I. is a product named and created by a company. It wasn't named A.I. because it's going to be sentient, or because it was accurate. Because frankly A.I. is the most broad and vague term ever, it can reasonably be applied to a calculator, but I don't expect it to go on strike.
It was named A.I. not by software engineers out of a genuine connection to the ubiquitous trope. It was named by advertising agents. Because saying "We made an A.I. that can speak to you." Gets alot of headlines and attention from the general public and investors.
The idea that Generative Software of the text variety will ever be sentient, is a simple case of hasty conclusions based on word associations. Perpetuated by the fact it can emulate speech, and stimulate the subconscious connection to stories, where the computer talks.
TikTok and everyone else is dumb, and actively using your fear and lack of software familiarity to drag clicks and likes out of you, for your data that they can sell to advertisers.
Been trying to get that together for forever.
