Fake video game soundtrack album for an rp I’m doing with a friend, with little context

Some of the characters involved are OCs, some are characters from Disventure Camp. David is my oc, Rae is @vampire-ink-777 ‘s oc. This post was pretty much just meant for my friends haha. This does of course take place during the Monster Island Disventure Camp au.

1. “Together Again, Unfortunately” (Characters assemble at the status quo, they’d met already from about a year prior. Gentle sort of guitar sounds. The plane from ep 1 of DCAS.)

2. “Something’s Amiss” (Characters realize stakes are exponentially higher, reprise of ‘together again, unfortunately’ with some warping. Scene specific to my AU. Something’s up with Kristal.)

3. “Sparks Fly” (David and Tom have their first battle. Bouncy, sharp sounding battle theme)

5. “Moment of Calm” (placeholder for gaps. Not as calm as the name implies, there’s an edge of unease to the melodies)

6. “Cloudberries” (Specific quiet moment with Rae and Jake, 5 min softer sort of song)

7. “End of the World As We Know It” (characters put in some reality-altered realm where the world has seemingly ended and they’re expected to deal with the fallout and kill each other. Stressful, but doesnt turn into a battle theme until the end)

8. “Canvas" (Quiet moment during the episode song 7 takes place in where David and Tom compare their scars. extremely soft reprise of ‘sparks fly’)

9. “Smoke and Funhouse Mirrors” (Unsettling romp through Rae’s head)

10. “Sing For Your Supper” (Unsure of context. There’s a chorus involved, though, and lots of bass. Tom and David are involved.)

11. “A Waltz in Viscera” (Involves a terrifically complex reality-altered challenge that reveals characters’ ‘hearts’ desire’, David’s being a violent gladiator arena style battle between him and Tom.)

12. “Apotheosis” (the end of that battle sequence. Sort of an Iliad reference but also really, really not. Think ‘our mutual might drags us past humanity and into godhood’.)

Absolutely fire takes all around, and I definitely agree 🙏

Honestly, I really hate how Max felt as a character. She never felt like a real person, and more so like a protagonist shoehorned in for the sake of having a new protagonist. It felt like a Y/N rather than an actual character.

Plus, it feels like the abusive brother dynamic wasn’t used to its true potential. They could have done SO much more…and yet they didn’t…..

I think I see what you mean, bat anon. In terms of being shoehorned in, I kinda get what you mean- in season 2 she sort of seemed like she served as an edgy tomboy twist on the whole ‘hallway crush’ dealio, but that’s just because Lucas and Dustin were both crushing on her. I think she just didn’t have enough time to lose her “Devil may care” mask, which is why she feels more like a y/n rather than a flawed individual. But so much time is given looking AT her— we see how OTHER people see her rather than actually getting something from her perspective until season 4, where it’s shown how Billy’s death severely affected her. But even so, it doesn’t necessarily feel like it’s hitting right, exactly. Idk I wish we got to see more of her, it just doesn’t feel right. I also wish the next bunch of things I’m about to say wasn’t entirely subtext. Or like. Below subtext.

I agree on the whole abusive brother dynamic thing, though. There was definitely some missed potential there. I think season 4’s “Dear Billy” stuff helped for sure since it made clear that their relationship wasn’t black and white— it’s complicated. He was family, and he’s dead, of course it’s a strange situation since he wasn’t a one-note, mustache-twirling villain. I would’ve loved to see some more elaboration on their complicated situation.

In terms of Billy’s abuse towards Max, which seems to mostly be about control- what with the whole wrist grab thing, and being weirdly focused on who she chooses to surround herself with… and with their father/stepfather. Maybe he projects a bit of his own desire for control with his father onto his younger sibling since he feels like there’s a chance that HE can be the domineering authority figure, instead of the victim. Maybe he feels like he’s projecting a bit or genuinely helping somehow? This is a bit of a reach. In any case, I feel like the real meat is found in the siblings’ relationship with their father rather than Billy’s abuse towards Max exactly.

I could write an essay on the subtext of how Billy copes with the abuse he receives from his father, but instead let’s focus on Max. Does she experience any from her stepfather? Does Max know anything about why Billy does what he does? Is the way Max acts influenced at all by her stepfather? Is her relationship with her mother affected by it?

Furthermore, is she worried at all about a cycle of abuse? Assuming she wants to have kids (which honestly seems a bit out of character based on her personality but I’m going into detail here) is she concerned at all about continuing a cycle of abuse in some way? Or does she feel like her relationship with Lucas breaks that cycle since she’s surrounded by people who make her feel like she can be softer and safer?

I think the show could’ve benefitted from just some elaboration on this lol I really think their dynamic has so much potential.
