it was the truth, wylan knew this and knew it well.   so why did it hurt more when someone else said it ?   inej was just stating the obvious, what everyone else was thinking.   wylan wasn't some renown criminal,   he wasn't the wraith or like the sharpshooter,   not even like the man they call dirtyhands himself.   he was someone that the five others wouldn't really associate with.   his hands were never calloused,   he would get embarrassed easily and stammer on his words with the same ease as it was for inej to gather the city's secrets.   inej probably had something on him, not that he would know or particularly care to know,   but the possibility still lay prominent in the silence.   he brushed back his ginger curls that fell into his eyes,   looking away from her,   slightly bashful now with the attention on him.   you don't exactly blend in,   he knows ;   he's felt it all his life.               ❝     to be honest,   i don't think i ever will,   and that's fine with me.     ❞                but in truth,   he has always longed for it :   a sense of belonging.
