Nunzugu Part 1.
The “Nunzugu“ objects are fully functional martial art weapons - Nunchakus, and represent, to a large extent, popular culture and its widespread consumption.
The inspiration for the project is derived from an iconic screen star who defied stereotypes – Bruce Lee. Our eye is fascinated by the movement of nunchakus - requiring skill, technique, and a trained user.
This age-old Okinawan training weapon is now illegal in most countries but, ironically, a piece of popular household entertainment equipment has been inspired, and named after it - the Nintendo Wii controller.
Because the project is dealing with the very nature of pop culture, the final art piece will be presented to the public through digital media, which includes a film and a series of photos. The sculptures featured in the film and in the photo series are hand made using ceramic, glaze and white gold luster glaze.
