          her eyes burned from the tears that stained her cheeks. a small nagging voice told her she shouldn’t forgive him, that she should just let him live his life and move on with hers, but she knew better than that. she cared too much for that. this wasn’t something she could just let go of. he was so much more to her than she cared to admit to anyone, but anyone with a brain could tell how much they meant to each other. ‘ nathan it’s okay. you were going through a rough time and... ‘ she paused, contemplating the end of the sentence before a small smile curved on her lips. ‘ and i understand. i forgive you nate, it’ll be better now. ‘

kate was a mixture between terrified and furious. this was supposed to be her new start, somewhere her past a blackwell wouldn’t haunt her. but first nathan and now victoria, it seemed she couldn’t escape it. and victoria’s was always the voice in her head, taunting her, letting her know of what had happened, how she wasn’t good enough. “it doesn’t matter.” she shook her head, wanting to leave the situation as quickly as possible. “you’re obviously busy, i should go.” 

          ‘ kate wait. ‘ the blonde dropped her hand by her side, eyes gazed down towards the ground as she took in a deep breath. her mind was already slightly foggy from the short hit she had taken from the blunt, but she could still process how hard this situation must’ve been on the other. ‘ i’m not busy. you can stay, y’know, if you want. ‘

Putting himself first for once wasn’t a bad idea. Maybe it was what he needed. One step closer to getting better. All he knew was Victoria was what he needed. The fact she’d still be there after everything meant something to him. He didn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around her waist and bury his head in her neck. Human contact wasn’t usually a Nathan thing but when it came to the girl before him, everything was his thing. Pulling back just enough to be able to look at her, he wiped the tears from her eyes. “You know I love you, right? That’d I’d never hurt you. Or let anyone else hurt you.”

          she sniffled into his shoulder ( very unattractive ) as her fingers tangled in his shirt. she hadn’t felt this close to him in a long time, like they’d taken a step back, forgotten about each other, or just tried to breathe, but the truth was ? victoria didn’t feel normal without him in her life, she couldn’t be herself unless he was there to be herself with. when his finger brushed against her skin, she let her eyes shut as she released a shaky exhale. she could only ever remember him being this gentle around her, and for once that made her feel extremely special. “ i love you too. you’re my best friend ––- of course i believe you. “

kate was lost, confused and overwhelmed. she was meant to be far away from here, somewhere better. but she supposed if she was to wake up in any strange place, it was far away from arcadia bay. and far away from nathan, victoria and david madsen. she couldn’t help the few tears that slide down her cheeks as a sense of failure overcame her. “oh sorry!” kate stood when someone walked through the door. “i didn’t realize this room would be needed, i’ll leave.” 

          a blunt sat between her teeth, freshly rolled. as she brought the lighter up closer ( it’d been a long day ) the door opened, causing her to jump and the flame to diminish. an annoyed sigh passed her lips as she took the object in her fingers and turned around. her eyes grew slightly wide for a second before her hand dropped to her side. ‘ kate ? what’re you doing here ? ‘ ever since rachel’s funeral, vic had felt horrible about everything that went down at blackwell, but that didn’t mean she’d show it.

It wasn’t as if Nathan wanted to push her away like he was. As a matter of fact, she was the only person in his life he needed. The one who cared enough to stand before him and let him know it. But the thought of him putting her through what he already had, and then to put her through more, made him want to do what was best for her. His gaze locked onto her own. Finding himself taking a few steps closer as he thought about what he really wanted. “I don’t want you to leave. I need you.” 

          she didn’t like the tears in her eyes, the way she became so vulnerable around him, but he was the only one who could ever see her like this. it was them, always. with a sniffle and a shaky exhale, she nodded. “ okay. “ her arms wrapped around the back of his neck and pulled him in for a hug. they weren’t always physically close, but she needed to hug him, needed to feel him in her arms to remind herself that he was real, that she was lucky enough to have someone like him in her life.

          she swallowed a lump in her throat, finding it hard to even say the words she was looking for. her brows furrowed as she looked down to him moving her hand. tears welled in the corners of her eyes. he was the only one she’d ever let see her cry, see her break down like this. “ and i care too much about you to let you go through this alone. “ she pushed herself from the floor, and looked him in the eye. “ if you want me to leave, that’s fine, but tell me that, word for word. tell me you want me to leave. “

Rubbing the back of his head, Frank finally moved from his spot on the ground to look around; this was no Arcadia Bay. His attention soon turned to where  Pompidou (his dog) was, though upon hearing a bark besides him he could finally feel a little calmer. 

It took a moment until the man chose to look for a sign, grumbling in every way possible “Where the fuck am I?!” He spoke rather annoyed and loudly, running his hands over his face in frustration…”Will someone just tell me, where the hell I am?!”

          although she didn’t know frank personally ( and to her that was a good thing ) victoria knew his business, his name. this was the man that nathan knew too well. “ new york, did you take too many drugs so now you can’t read ? “

It only took him a moment to place his own hand over hers. Being away from the girl for as long as he had made him forget how much she really did care. How he had someone who actually did. Nathan had his mom and sister but with Victoria it was different. She was someone he could easily open up to. Having her as a friend was something he appreciated. “Don’t.” He didn’t want apologises or to make her feel bad for feeling a way he couldn’t blame. “Have you ever thought about why I never let you help more than you did?”

          still, her eyes wandered everywhere except on his face, even though they were touching. it was selfish of her to want to help so bad, but this is what she needed. she needed someone in her life to really love, and he was the one, even if it meant she had to push a little harder sometimes. “ n-no i haven’t. “ she shook her head, eyes relaxing shut as she gave his leg a small squeeze, out of fear and in an attempt to comfort him.

Bringing his knees into his chest, he wrapped both arms tight around his legs as she spoke. Victoria was right yet he couldn’t get himself to agree. “I’m surprised the term friend is even being thrown around. You can’t look me in the eye. You can’t look at me at all. Just admit it, you’re afraid of me.” Although he believed himself to be right, it was mostly distracting away from the fact that Nathan could’ve easily opened up to her in the past but was too afraid to find out what would’ve happened if he did. “I’m afraid of me too…”

          his words struck a nerve in her. it was true, victoria was scared of the boy, especially after hearing from the cops that she was going to be one of the next ones, but she wasn’t oblivious to the fact that he needed help. this was more than just fear in her eyes, she wanted to protect him. carefully, she slid herself over, moving directly next to him as a gentle hand moved onto his knee. “ i’m sorry. but you can get better this time, i can help more, just let me help more. “

          “ i ––- i don’t know yet. when i found out nathan did what he did, i felt horrible, but i didn’t stop caring about him. he was one of very few people who let me be not a bitch and ––- that was important to me. as for rachel and chloe ? i feel worse for them than i do for me, but don’t tell anybody that. i don’t want them to hurt him and i don’t want him to hurt them. that’s it, and i have no clue what the hell i can do to make that happen. “
