and like yeah obviously society is going to try and gender a child and it's probably going to be easier for them to go through life vaguely conforming to a gender, but the least you could do with your place of legal ownership over them is let them choose if they want to do that and talk to them about it.

Like so many people's response to not gendering a child is that the kid is going to get bullied for it, which presumes the idea that you're FORCING the child into gender nonconformity, as opposed to NOT forcing them *into* gender conformity in the first place.
