The deadline for submitting your works to the What A Hellish Summer Exchange is coming up!

For those not familiar with exchanges, this is what happens then.

Any assignment which has not been completed will be defaulted on.

Anyone who has turned in their assignment, but has not received something in exchange, will go out as a Post Deadline Pinch Hit (PDPH).

There will be a week for those Pinch Hits to be picked up and completed, with a due date of June 8th.

A week after that, we get work reveals! For a week, the creators will all be anonymous. Please read and comment on your gift at this time! (And maybe others?)

Finally, a week later, creator's will be revealed and the event will be over~

Lavender has been reclaimed by the LGBTQ+ community. The Lavender Scare (a 1950s witch hunt for homosexual federal employees) and the Lavender Menace (the 1969 word for lesbians by some feminists who thought lesbians were in the way of women's rights).

Let alone lavender marriages, used to conceal sexuality of both members through heterosexual marriage. The more marriage is allowed for all, the more lavender roses are used in those weddings.

In Japan during the 1960s, roses became a symbol for gay men. While it was originally a derogatory connection, the publication Bara-kei would be the origins of popularizing the term "bara" for gay men.

Roses are also used as a symbol for the transgender community. The Trans Day of Remembrance has the phrase "give us our roses while we're still here".

Daisy and buttercup were also used on flamboyant gay men in the early 1900s, but it was the word pansy which stuck.

But even the recent trend towards acceptance isn't the first time the majority of people were accepting of the LQBTQ+ community. Fairies' balls and pansy shows were well known even before the Pansy Craze.

Assignments are out for What a Hellish Summer Exchange 2025 and we have a Pinch Hit! Even people who are not signed up for the exchange can take a pinch hit, though all other rules still apply.

Stemming from the Ancient Greek poet Sappho's use of floral words in her works, violets have been used as a symbol for sapphic love for a long time.

"The Captive" on Broadway was shut down by public uproar in 1927, but the use of violets within it made the violet a staple for displaying lesbian pride.

Regardless of the truth of why men had started to wear the unnatural green carnation, it is now a flower tied to LGBTQ+ history.
