"The weather was so much better in Pentos," she lamented as she returned her companion and the pair of cradles at the foot of her bed, the girls within sleeping soundly for the time. "I wish you could have come with us. Time abroad would have done you some good."

Still, even as the words escaped her lips there was a sad smile. Laena knew very well that such things would never be possible for Rhaenyra, at least not now anyway. Had she been a man (like her uncle, like Daemon) then perhaps the court would turn an eye to such a short visit. As it stood, however, her detractors would be far more likely to scorn her for shirking her duties as heir, duties they themselves made as difficult as possible. There was comfort in pretending, at the very least.
