Monsters and Spells Update
Monsters and Spells Update
First, I have been taken down the PDFs. The website is way newer and should be used until a new PDF can be put together.
I’ve published new layouts for monsters and spells. Hopefully it makes then easier to use. A few new monsters and higher level magic spells are finally up.
Check it out at https://simplednd.wordpress.com

Rule: Weapon Proficiencies
I was reading some really OSR and the concept of Weapon Proficiencies came up. I think this is actually a great limited to add along with the new encumbrance and time limits. Like all rules in SimpleDnD this is an optional rule, but one I cannot recommend enough.
The Rule
If you ARE NOT proficient with the weapon you are using, you receive a -3 penalty to both hit and damage rolls. NOTE: A…

Technology as Magic
I’ve been brainstorming some ideas for new magic items and I’m really loving the idea that tech is magic. Not today’s technology, but maybe technology that is 10-50 years into the future. Obviously this brings the whole setting into question (what happened that everything is wilderness now? where did these’s other species come from?)
Things like:
Magic sphere – (force field emitter)
Boots of…

Time Tracking Worksheet
Time tracking as presented in SimpleDnD has a very special place in the game, but the problem is: it’s a pain to keep track of! Enter the Time Tracking Worksheet. Each box is one turn, each box contains all the rounds and notes, each row tracks one hour, each page holds 8 hours of dungeon delving goodness!
Also compatible with old versions of AD&D!

Goblin Raiders
Adventure for SimpleDnD
Map by Daniel F. Walthall @Axebane
Introduction
This adventure is designed to teach dungeon exploration to a new group of players. While the story is cliche, it is a good starting point to introduce low level monsters and situations and really the adventure starts at the cellar doors.
This adventure is designed for a group of 5 players and one Dungeon Master – at the end…

Designing Interesting Encounters
I recently came across a post on Reddit and it really got me thinking about how to make combat and encounters more interesting. To me, there is nothing more boring than combat: Roll dice, subtract, roll more dice. Over and over. Here’s some ideas that I will be using from now on to make it way more interesting.
Kezbomb says…
Don’t make enemies big bags of hp, manage the hp of enemies so that…

Heroic Points
Just a thought – use Heroic points for Healing Surges.
To use: Spend the point and roll your hit dice and heal that amount.
Hit Dice: Your level is the amount of dice to roll, your class hit dice is the dice you use.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Ratling
Tumblr media
  Skaven Assassin
Ratlings are bipedal humanoid-rodent hybrid that are known to dwell in settings ranging from semi-underground warrens or along riverbanks. They are known for being a communal race, especially in cities where they can take over an entire quarter and turn it into their own. Ratling’s fur ranges in shades of black, grey, white with brown being one of the few “colors” of the race.…

Initiative Idea
I love that each round initiative changes every combat round, but I think taking it one step further: Rouge Classes roll d10, Warrior d8 and Spell Caster d6.

This was submitted by velenon… I’ll need to tweak it a bit.
Dragonborn
Born of dragons, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension.
That is because they posses great power, every Dragonborn has the ability to use his draconic breath to cause havoc in the battlefield.
