Some AU notes:

This is a perspective I have always wanted to explore. I have always talked about my wish for them to die together as a satisfying ending for their characters stories this is just... The bad version of that ending heh. This takes place post-canon where Kenjaku has been defeated, Gojo unsealed and Geto is back in his body but with no will to live. Seeing MimiNana are dead, his ideals (the ones he had as a teen and the ones as an adult) lead nowhere and it's still a miserable world for him, he simply think he should have stayed dead a long time ago. He has always been okay with dying at Gojo's hands so he asks for this last favor. On the other hand, Gojo is simply tired.  He's satisfied that his dream it's on good hands though, seeing the remaining students can achieve it more effectively now but so tired mentally from being sealed and physically for fixing all the chaos afterwards. He's tired of being a cog in the machine and he's tired of being the strongest. He simply wants to be Satoru, and he can only be Satoru when Suguru's by his side. So he commits to this selfish last wish.

Also the ashes is a hint for Achilles and Patroclus. Since sorcerers must be cremated wouldn't it be a perfect opportunity to reference that? Seeing they have many parallelisms heh. In the end, they're finally free and together, although in the after life, they're finally home with each other.
