The end is happening too.

Progress is tricky. I’ve yet met a person that can decide it is happening whilst it is happening. Progress is speculated upon by those in the midst of it: but the end decides the beginning. And the beginning usually decides the middle. 

For us on 27 Methuen Street; It has been a long three weeks. We’re building content. We build ourselves. We reflect. We give up. We rebuild.  All of these are natural human reactions. The most beneficial thing in one’s existence is taking up the challenge of self-confrontation. We do it in many ways: provoking, chastising, ignoring and or loving too much. What ever hurts most.

At a birthday lime I was invited to I met a young maker named Arielle and I asked her a question I have asked many makers in many different ways: how do you do it? In my opinion, Self Efficacy is a gift. There are not many who are (willing to decide) that their lives are their own. There are even fewer who are (willing to choose) a life of self motivation and self inspiration. Yet this Caribbean was built on it -- a people challenged to build where there was nothing. And they did so marvellously. If ever there is a tradition to continue it is this -- that tradition of self-determination.

Confrontation had to be had for the pan, and calypso and music to thrive as much as it did. A National confrontation is always necessary -- ‘Trinidad is not a paradise’ -- ‘Class is determined by those who navigate it’ -- ‘I love you is less than the action. So love me. And I’ll know’ -- Clarity is found in the dark though it is here we have been taught to fear. So no one goes lurking in the dark for much needed light. 

We wait mostly on the direction of others. We wait for someone else’s clarity. But what service is that of to us? Our clarity is defined by our search -- our journey! Our heritages...

During this long three weeks we have had a few break-throughs and a few break-ups. FischerMoth (me!) had a first showing, we met (Teatro Journee) -- Tafar, Tyker and Tyche, (three amazing girls. They know themselves. They are all (bigger). We’ve pitched our short films to persons we’d like in the studio. We’ve pitched ourselves. We made it to the NYC!

We had some shoots with Scorch for their Free to Ear & Stitches projects. We even have been doing Bar B Cues! 

...Well. One. We work on 150%. We’re still determining ourselves. We’re fighting the good fight for all of us. Because the end is yet we continue to determine ourselves.

Love in five senses

We’ve been working pretty hard guys 

FOS Vibez is a production we are partnering with Erphaan Alves to produce following the lives of Erphaan and the EA team. We’ve also brokered a partnership with Scorch Tv -- look out for one of our first events this thursday at ARIA on the avenue. It’s free! We’ve been doing plenty other things -- finding ways to reduce the cost of the tees, shooting short films, the ALTCTRLDLT campaign -- all’s going well...

the Aesthetic Laboratories and Libraries (1)

In the event of a culture life; ideas occur - is movement. Direction happens to a people. It is not a fault. It is a quality of existence.

We are shaped by our interactions; internal and external. We are engaged in perpetual negotiation with those things we consume and those things that we project out into the world. Media is the expression of this negotiation. We consume so that we might produce - Not tragically, consumption is so much a program coded into human design; we consume by nature.

It is because we understand this consumption program and because we understand that we are what we (eat) that we are so invested in claiming our stake in the aesthetic culture. 

Any aesthetic culture describes a people: the sounds and the reactions to these sounds, the color palette, the direction of a script, the intention of directors and authors - they all play a part in documentation of a people and the contextualization of future-media(s).

We are not interested in the dictating of consumer habits. Consumption is, I reiterate, a program so coded into human design. What Adverb Media is interested in is making the plate as appetizing as possible. -- Re-appropriation of the edibles.

Content making takes on the action of farming. Content makers are farmers. It is our duty to harvest those things around us so that we might (re)contribute to the aesthetic culture; to foster a forward direction, to facilitate the re-appropriation of ideas, to facilitate culture understanding, to facilitate culture-sharing. 

The creation of content is important. With the advent of Globalization, It has become the duty of every citizen.

Understand: Globalization is not the detriment of any culture nation. It is in fact the call for persons to be ambassadors to the world they were born into. So we do. 

Adverb Media answers that call with a sensibility, love and tentativeness.

I say tentative to mean experimentation. The aesthetic is fluid and moving and bending. Always. The archive IS NOT a stagnant pool into which these ideas are cached but rather an ever moving, fluid and bending mirror direction reaching as far on the reverse axis as the aesthetic moves on the forward axis.

We have taken up our role: to present the work. Will you answer the call? Will you support the future-making of content?

Adam Fuss, Untitled, unique photogram on muslin, 1997. From Classic Photographs & Photobooks, at auction December 12.

To create this photogram - which is huge, about 6 feet tall in its frame - Fuss placed half a dozen snakes on a large sheet of photographic paper that was lightly dusted with talcum powder. As the paper was exposed to light, the moving snakes “drew” the image.
