Her ears perk up towards the sound of soft laughter from across the room and her head whips around, eyes searching for the the source of the noise. She would know that voice from anywhere, its deep and smooth cadence had whispered in her ears many times. Eventually her eyes landed on the target and there she stood as beautiful as ever, a dark blue eye mask covering her face, softly giggling as she entertained her guests. Rage engulfed Nyx’s body at the sight of Hestia, her enemy, enjoying herself and acting as if nothing had just happened. Abandoning her post Nyx marched straight through the hall no longer caring whether or not she stayed inconspicuous per orders of the Madam.

“What are you doing?!” Hissed Hestia as Nyx dragged her by the arm across the full ballroom, no one paying attention due to most guests being too intoxicated to care.

“Let me go!” She yelled, pulling her arm back struggling against the tight grip of the taller, “What do you want?” Still no answer from nyx as she focused on getting them out of the room.

“Ugh!” Hestia huffed from being thrown back first against the wall of the dark empty hall they were in, “Would yo-“

She was cut off by an arm shoving her across her shoulders and a dagger pressed firmly against her throat, “I’m talking here.” Nyx said flatly, ripping the mask of the shorter’s face and throwing it against the floor “Why are you still here?”

Hestia dropped her arms from where they were pushing against her enemy’s, a smirk spread across her face, “Why am I here?” She taunted, “I’m only here because you were stupid enough to let me live.” Hestia spat, the taller winced at the ferocity in the others voice but did not loose their grip.

“Did you really think I’d just go on my merry way back to my pathetic life when I could have all these riches?”

Nyx pushed the knife against her throat harder, crimson liquid dropped down her brown neck, her mind raced with options, none of them seeming to the right thing to do. Hestia did not falter, her eyes hard and staring right back at the taller, “what are you gonna do? Kill me? You already failed at that once”

“I gave you a chance to escape,” Nyx spoke through gritted teeth, “I put my life and the lives of my family on the line to save you and this is how you repay me!? If you are found here then the both of us will be dead before sunrise, us and everyone I love”

Hestias eyes dropped down towards the ground her eyebrows furrowed, her expression softened, grief pouring into her eyes, “I didn’t ask you to.” She whispered

“What?” Nyx replied unable to hear her

“I said: I didn’t ask you to.” She said fiercely looking back into Nyx’s eyes, there was something else there, a third emotion swirling in those brown orbs, “I didn’t ask you to save me, to free me, to CARE for me.”

“I don’t-“ started Nyx, redness flushed her cheeks as her instinctively moved slightly backwards, loosening her grip on the shorter.

“You freed me for what,” she pushed back against her enemy, reversing their roles on the opposite wall of the narrow hallway, Nyx’s arms dropped to her sides listening to the other in confusion “I have no where to return to, they killed my family and burned down my home, I’m all alone now,” her voice choked on that last part but no tears spilled from her eyes, “And it’s all thanks to your people.” Hestia voice was coated in venom.

“Hestia, please- please believe me I had no idea-“ Nyx started shocked, the Madam had been clear only Hestia was to be brought back and no one else was to be harmed.

“Why would an ever trust you? All you’ve ever done was hurt me and you think releasing me is going to erase all the pain you’ve caused? Well you’re wrong and I will NEVER trust you again. I’ve made that mistake for the first and last time,” She released Nyx where she held here at the collar of her uniform, picking up her marks where it lay in the ground and dusting it off before putting it back on, “Oh and here’s some advice: don’t try and find me, I will kill you and that’s a promise you can trust, goodbye.”

She took off down the hall going deeper into the mansion, nyx listened to her footsteps fading and soon the only thing keeping her company was the far-away sound of music coming from the ball. A million thoughts ran through the assassins mind but only one stood out clear in her head.

Don’t go.
