I have a tax question about the new episode of Game Changer, “Who Wants to be…?”, so I guess spoiler warning for that.

So about 3 questions in, they make it apparent that the who setup is one of the episodes aimed at doing something nice for one player, specifically Jacob Wysocki. And in the end, he “wins” $100,000, though it’s apparent that Sam Reich set this up and even got a sponsor just to give him that money in a very grand gesture and everything was basically rigged to get him to the end.

So I’m curious, how is that money taxed? Would it be considered a gift? Stipend? Game show winnings?
