Thinking about the ending of act 2 again

Spoilers warning (regarding endings)

Talking about the very beginning of Act 3 has got me thinking (I'm only at the very beginning of Act 3, still 93 hours of gameplay, ikik)

More thoughts on how to resolve their issues and possibly(below the cut vvv)

Final Spoilers warning (regarding endings)

I know there are only two endings, the whole thing is about light and dark, Chiaroscuro, so there will only be two endings which is fitting.

However, if alternative endings exist, I think the best way to make everyone happy (as they can be) is to remove the Dessendre family's meddling, and possibly introduce a way to repaint Verso like how Alicia was repainted into Maelle

That way Verso can feel like his own person and have more autonomy over his life. If they're all remade/painted again and again, it'd only be fair if they completely removed Verso's memories so he could start fresh, but he isn't given that choice from the start, he has to identify as verso because of Aline's meddling.

The reason I say as "happy as they can be", is because it's obvious Maelle doesn't have the heart to kill off Verso, even if she says she acknowledges Verso's not the original and is his own person. This is because she's lived another lifetime in the Canvas, where she's loved and not blamed for everything that ever happened to her family around her.

In addition, she's learned to love painted creations because she's walked alongside with them. (I told my coworker, this is analogous to Jesus, Emmanuel: God with us). Because she lived with the creations she can't seem to destroy them, because they're real to her. A sentiment not completely shared by Clea or Renoir.

Going back to "happy as they can be", without destroying the canvas, the family will never learn how to move on from their grief and still be dysfunctional. Sure, Verso could be painted into a different canvas, but it would start the cycle of trauma all over again if they can't let him die or move on from the fire.

Therefore, if they could first of all fix the world and all the death around them (It's kinda obvious Maelle has the power to do so); choose to fix the whole world and not dysfunctionally live in it (let's face it, living in the canvas and ignoring your outside life is dysfunctional, I'm also looking at you Maelle, you're cutting it), by returning periodically; and then letting Verso die how he wants to, live a whole life separate from Verso, and gain memories back how he wishes to-

THEN it would work out for everyone.

So theoretically, even if either ending is chosen. This would be the best alternative for everyone after everything happens. Because the loop will always continue until they all learn to compromise.

Problem is: Maelle's lived 2 lifetimes but she's only got teenage mentality for both lol, and Verso still has no autonomy. So that's my theory why only two depressing endings can exist, because the canvas is now in the hands of a teenager, the Dessendre's still meddling (for now, I know there's more on this in act 3), and Verso still has no say in pretty much everything regarding himself (just remove his immortality first and foremost).

What a depressing game, fitting for a French/Italian themed game. If I remember correctly from film class, this game's endings definitely has Italian themes of neorealism. :')

My choice?

Honestly, I'd destroy the canvas, they can be repainted anytime into a different canvas (☠️🥖). But doing so would help the Dessendre's move on. BUT if they revive Gustave, I'll consider Maelle's side of the story asdfgsghs (don't forget if she didn't become Maelle there'd probably only be one ending LoL).

Finally finished Clair Obscur Act 2

Reflection and summary of thoughts below the cut vvv (yeah I know 93.9 hours of gameplay and I'm finally reaching Act 3)

COE33 Spoilers: final warning

It was what I was expecting but what I didn't expect was finding out one set of family was literally from outside the canvas. Or that Maelle exists only because Alicia did a terrible job at infiltration. And of course I didn't expect the two families to be a result of their parents fighting over Verso's canvas. (Or the fact that painters and writers are their own group/entity)

I knew Verso wanted to die and I suspected his original or copy died, but him having to know that he's the actual copy, and an imitation of someone who's dead sucks. Plus he only exists in his original self's canvas, the canvas is not even his nor was he created by the original Verso.

I initially thought Alicia was reborn because she died? But then I thought harder, well, that doesn't make sense, why is masked Alicia still there? Now it makes sense why Renoir was able to push Maelle into the painter's subspace (whatever you call it) and was telling her to leave what's best for their "families". And of course, the old Lumiere mansion cutscene.

They did a good job hiding the fact that Verso died from the fire, which I guess is what their mother wanted anyway, to trick him into believing this world was real and Alicia's face was the only casualty. Ugh poor guy.

Verso's like an npc that was given sentience via artificial memories and told he became a real boy but his punishment is knowing he's not, in fact, real and that he's actually a copy and his whole world is a simulation and that there's no escape via death but pain and purgatory and a fake family in a fake world. Poor poor guy.

The Dessendre family just needs to move on smh.

Final thoughts/theory

My assumption is that Maelle's learned to love this world after living as, well, Maelle... for 16 years, her desire to erase the canvas may have changed now (especially since it was Clea berating her into doing it), plus the fact that she has seen the copy of Verso who also has his own thoughts/emotions/soul like the rest of Lumiere 🤨🥖 I think she might side with her mother's intentions

Also her throat and face isn't messed up (she denies it's one of the reasons but come on /t)
