My mind was blown when I first read that the majority of cells that make up our bodies are not human. We are teeming with microscopic creatures: bacteria, viruses, fungi and archaea (organisms initially misidentified as bacteria). Many are essential to our physical and psychological health. The more I’ve learned about the way our bodies and brains work the more confused I’ve become about the nature of my existence. Self-portrait for Inktober 2018, Day 12. I often look evil when I'm depicted in other people's drawings and now I've gone and done it to myself. I think it's the pointy eyebrows. There's been a lot of good natured teasing about this, which I find hilarious. A friend once told me that when the devil made me, he used a very small stick to jab two little holes in my face for my beady eyes.
