So if your flight instructor uses flight sims for advanced maneuver practice, then yes, don't fly with them. The issues of realism and accuracy will manifest most obviously in the physics/FM department, kinesthetics, as well as the controls/interface fidelity. Your view of it is going to be shared by many students/pilots/Flight Instructors/the FAA etc. This is a debate that many in the aviation industry will argue on both sides, but nobody can legitimately argue against the procedural use of flight simulations as a training aid. I haven't even tried the sailplanes in Aerofly FS…I guess I should, but still, I'm almost certain that Condor brings more to the table - especially if you also have an interest in the racing action on MP that is honestly, really, really, fun and well implemented in Condor!Ĭondor has both 3D and Photoreal scenery options (lots of freeloadable content), good sailplane specific weather controls, decent thermal visualizations (clouds aren't JUST scenery, they tell you something about the conditions!) the flight physics are great, some of the best for any sim, honestly. I'd sooner fly IL-2 CloD's SU-26 for that sort of stuff. Silent Wings has a demo that you can try, and you will probably see that it is slightly newer looking, but it doesn't deliver the goods that a real world sailplane pilot will appreciate about Condor.ĪeroFly FS looks wonderful and I couldn't wait to try it, I fly the Extra and Pitts aircraft in the real world and Aerofly FS focused on these two so heavily that I had high hopes (I love their R/C sim too) and while these aircraft look just wonderful in Aerofly FS the flight models aren't as good as most of us that were hoping for, it has no weather control and more basic wx implementation. Going out and flying more for real can just not be replaced, thankfully.īut that said, condor can be fun in winter, especially online Also Airspace observation and so is just a different thing in the reality. I would agree, any videogame can take you only so far, or sometimes even be counter productive for the stick and rudder flying (as the stick in a plane generally as a different lenght and therefore movement /feel in a real glider. That isn't to say that Condor is bad as sims go, just that I'd be a bit worried as one of your pupils if you told me that was how you practiced flying. There were some twinges of recognition - I quite liked the thermalling - but overall I felt I was playing a video game. My gliding days are long in the past, but I didn't feel much of a connect, I have to say. The only thing I've really flown is an ASK13, so Condor seemed appropriate. I bought Condor not long ago because we always have debates about how realistic FMs are in sims, and I wanted to join in.
