The AmericanHigh School Diploma awarded to the students, after the completion of four years (grade 9 to 12 ), is accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission(NWAC).It has been operational in India since 2012.The American High School Diploma is awarded through Higher Secondary Level Program (HSLP) providing choices to the students amongst streams such as science , commerce and humanities. In India nearly 16000 students are enrolled intothe American high school diploma program. Students are evaluatedon the basis of grade system known as the Grade Point Average (GPA) ranging from A-F scale where A is the highest and F is the lowest grade. Each grade has a value between 1 and 4. Students who excel in a particular subject during High school will have the opportunity to take Advance Placement Classes. The minimum credit required by a student to pass the examination is seven credits i.e one credit for each subjectwhere a credit comprises of 180 learning hours.

Accreditation is like a fitness test for the institution or a recognition which states that a school is legitimate and follows certain guidelines to ensure the quality of education. Accreditation bodies monitor continuous improvement at schools by ensuring the proper execution of curriculum, syllabus and education delivery.These bodies develop a mechanism in association with the school management to enhance and improve the learning experience of students. NWAC (The Northwest Accreditation commission)is a non-governmental organization formed in 1917 with a membership of 25 secondary schools and eight higher institutions. It is one of the regional accrediting bodies of U.S which accredits primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools. Formerly it was an independent entity based in Boise, Idaho. It merged with AdvancED in 2012. It operates in seven states Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. NWAC boardhas a regional office in Delhi, India. NWAC high school diplomas are accepted by various national, state and educational boards of India

Valid boards are recognized by council of board of school education (COBSE) . COBSE works in collaboration with Ministry Of Human Resource Development and other agencies like National Council of Research And Educational Training(NCERT), National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration(NUEPA) , National Council of Teacher  Education (NCTE).

COBSE was established in 1979. In india 62 boards are recognized and some foreign boards  such as that of Nepal, Bhutan , Mauritious , UK , UCLES and 1B are its members. It improves quality of education , and evaluation system along with curriculum reform. It works under the guidance of NCERT/NIEPA regarding  professional issues
