We’ve known for a while that Skam, the Norwegian teen drama that has taken the internet by storm, will be getting an American remake, but now we know where it will “air” in America: on Facebook.
Facebook global content chief Ricky Van Veen announced today at MIPTV in Cannes that the American Skam, currently titled Shame, will air via Facebook’s new Watch service (which is in line with the original web series structure of releasing episodes in “real time”).
“When I first heard about Skam, it felt like I was seeing the future of storytelling,” Van Veen said (via Variety). “We’re incredibly enthusiastic about bringing it to global audiences on Facebook Watch.”
Simon Fuller, the man who brought us American Idol, bought the rights to the format for the series from the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation with plans to adapt it for American and Canadian audiences back in December 2016.
“From the first moment I heard about it I thought about Facebook as my partner,” Fuller said following the big announcement. “Facebook Watch, with its inherently social components and passionate community of fans that surround it, is the absolute perfect partner for Skam.”
Skam remakes are also in the works in France, Germany, and Spain, among other countries.

We’re looking for some awesome girls ages 12-14 to play lead and supporting roles for a big feature film! This is a great opportunity for a strong spirited, creative, daring, independent, central Texas girl with no previous acting experience.
We are working with the awesome team of Annie Silverstein (director) and Monique Walton (producer). Their last film, SKUNK, won first prize at Cannes-Cinéfondation in 2014! We are super excited to be working with this team again.
Check out the flyer for more details of the open casting call, the production team, and info on the role. We hope to see you there!
